Scroby 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2006 So what should I do to get out of this? Maybe say you don't have reliable transprtation to take you to and from the courthouse, as well as nobody that can take you to and from the courthouse. You could always just skip out, as many people did when I had J.D. I've heard some people say they skipped out and nothing ever happened to them. Of course if you go this route you could be heavily fined or thrown in jail for contempt of court. I guess the question you have to ask yourself is how badly to you want to get out of j.d.? My mom has actually skipped out on quite a few jury duty's here and there and nothing has happen to her at all. And an update about my sitution: So I called Jury Duty Services yet again tonight and I was told that I was not needed and I won't have it again for at least a year. I'm happy that I didn't have to go but I'm frustrated I had to wait like that to be told that I wasn't needed.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted October 13, 2006 Only a year? In NY, it's 7 years before they can bug you again.
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2006 It's not bugging, it's asking you to be a civil servant. The trappings of our daily lives make us forget what being a citizen means.

tominator89 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2006 You thought that was bad, Scroby? Wait until they actually pick you for a case. Yeah, I got to hear about some weird old man raping little boys for three days straight. I'm sure he's having an awesome time in jail on the 22 charges he was found guilty of. NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2006 All you have to do to get out of Jury Duty is have your supervisor write a letter to the court saying that you won't get paid for the time off, and that it will be a big financial burden on you. Everytime I have done that, I get excused. I did do jury duty once, got picked for a 2 week trial....however at THAT time, my work paid me my regular salary for jury duty, so it was well worth it to sit in a jury box for five hours and get paid for my regular 8 hour salary.
