Gears of War (Xbox 360)

Recommended Posts

Nah I dont think so. It seems I always have to cover behind it first, than the action comes up to jump over it. It looks like the AI can do it, but it kinda seems like the do the same thing sometimes too (slightly pause before going over the cover).

Yeah that seems to be the main problem reviewers have had with the controls is that the action button is responsible for a bit too much. The game automatically assumes you want to hide under cover you end up getting "sucked" into it before you can jump over it.

There's so many small things I don't like. Like besides the A button thing I hate having to switch to grenades. After Halo switching to grenades then switching back to a weapon just to throw one grenade is a hassle.

Detroit, Michigan- A teen patron attempting to purchase a copy of Microsoft's eagerly awaited, "Gears of War" was assaulted while waiting in line at a local Gamestop Video Game store. The 15 year-old was beaten by a 36 year-old waiting in line, also. Apparently, an argument ensued after the cashier claimed there were no more copies available. The 36 year-old named "Deion" started yelling and tried to cut in line in an attempt to purchase the last copy and a brawl started. The older customer sent a barrage of fists and harsh language at the younger patron. The police were then called. "Deion" was arrested for aggravated assault and is currently awaiting arraignment at a local correctional facility. The 15 year-old was taken to a local hospital for several wounds to the head and neck. The final copy of the game is being held as evidence.

That pisses me off that no one else in line tried to help that kid out. I will hand it to that kid though, he's got balls for standing up to someone whose much older than him and probably is a lot bigger as well. Maybe people did help the kid but since it wasn't reported in the article, I tend to think no one did. Well I guess it really is Emerance day!

I played it with my cousin tonight. Its a pretty fun game actually, but at most its just a rental mainly because of how short it is. We beat it in a few hours.

I've also heard that this game is real short.

Anya beat it already.

At first she said it was "good" not "great."

Then she changed her mind when she found out Cliffy B is a huge Buffy fan (which would explain the character named Anya, and Cliffy's bunny suit). Ever since then she says its OMG GOTY!!1

I didn't think it was too short. Just right actually. A game like that shouldn't be that long, it's the same battle over and over again.

Yeah, I beat the game early sunday morning, and then did it on hardcore later that night. Me and my uncle are gonna try beating it on Insane later tonight or tomorrow. It's a great game and really fun to play. I enjoy playing online, but unless you have a few spare hours to play, don't get into it. The shortest online game i've been on so far was like 15 minutes.

A friend and I have been co-oping it the last couple of nights. Getting pretty close to the end, but I had my first "about to break my controller" episode with my 360. Riding the mine carts just about drove me nuts, until I figured out the pattern. It seemed like every time one of us made it through the gauntlet, the other one would get killed by one of those fucking exploding Wretches. However, fighting those Theron Guards was a lot of fun.

And yes, I *heart* the bow. It sucks having to wait to pull the bowstring, but there's a sense of satisfaction in watching a drone or guard run around with an arrow sticking out of him and then exploding.

BTW, I like the names of some of the achievements. I especially like the pop culture references (defeating a Berserker = "My Love for You is Like a Truck" and using the Hammer of Dawn on 100 in multiplayer = "Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em").

The blood spattering across the screen and the target's torso splitting in half are great effects.

I'm going through Insane difficulty, and I must say it's not a whole lot different then Hardcore difficulty. They're a little bit more accurate, they duck a bit more, and you can't take quite as much damage. I do have the feeling General RAAM is going to be a pain in the ass though. He took a shitload of damage before he went down last time, I'm dreading this time.

I am very late to this thread, but yeah, I love this game. Playing Annex on Multiplayer has made this game all worth it, plus beating it on Insane was a actual challenge without being cheap (although those exploding wretches pissed me the fuck off)
