USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2007 I know. I'm not really bothered by it. It's not like the rookie quarterbacks would have had a chance to move ahead of Brian Griese, let alone Rex Grossman.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2007 There is no escape for Calvin DETROIT -- The Lions have invited former Georgia Tech quarterback Reggie Ball to this week's mini-camp, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. Ball, who threw to the Lions' No. 1 pick Calvin Johnson at Tech last season, will try to make the team as a kick returner/wide receiver. The Lions mini-camp begins Friday. MFer 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2007 You know, I'm tired of this bullshit about the Patriots fans "selling their souls" and "throwing away their ethics and values just cuz Moss is on their team." (and I'm not even a Patriots fan) First McMullan says it on ATH, then Shaugnessy writes about it the paper, then Cowherd says it on his show. 1. The Pats gave up next to nothing to get Moss and they can easily get rid of him if he doesn't get the job done. 2. I think most Pats fans realize this, which is why they're more accepting of Moss. 3. What the fuck does ethics and values have to do with anything? These people aren't condoning Moss' past actions. They know that this is a low-risk high-reward situation and they can live with that. I mean come on, these people are acting like Pats fans are all of a sudden bad people and have changed their own personal beliefs just cuz they're willing to give Moss a chance. 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2007 I don't like Randy, I don't trust Randy but I will give him a little rope to hang himself. That's how I am looking at this. I have no doubts he is a great receiver when motivated and no one can really deny that Moss was one of the best when he cared. It's not a question of his skills, it's a question of what kind of person he is. If he is serious about growing up and acting like an adult instead of ThugMan then I'll give him a chance. I'm not betting it last more than a year but when guys get older in the NFL, only one thing matters anymore. Getting that ring.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2007 Because it is a talking point that can make for good print until the training camps start. Besides, Shaugnessy and Cowherd are known douchepumps that salivate over this type of thing, not familiar enough with McMullen besides the spot ATH appearances. Anyone thinking logically can see that for a 4th and $3.5 million he is worth a tryout and if he blows it he will be cut in a hurry.

Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2007 Seems like a larger crop of recognizable names than past years. Seeing Justin Vincent undrafted in 2007 is so weird, since we all remember him as the Sugar Bowl dynamo who helped LSU win that national championship like, a bazillion years ago. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted May 1, 2007 For all those into the "raw physical freak" stories, I'd been following the one about DT Walter Thomas closely.. he went undrafted and apparently hasn't signed on with a team yet. The guy has tons of upside. He's 6'5", 375 pounds, which would make him one of the biggest players in the NFL immediately, and he runs like a 4.9 40.. the guy can even do front flips! This is the story I read about him: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/25/sports/f...agewanted=print

USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2007 I could see Keyshawn in San Diego. They need anything resembling a WR right now. Just because they don't have Randy Moss and Donte Stallworth doesn't mean they don't have WRs.

Failed Bridge 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2007 This is who the Chargers have at the wide-out position right now Greg Camarillo Malcolm Floyd Az-Zahir Hakim Vincent Jackson Keenan McCardell Eric Parker Parker has stone hands, Jackson is a big physical guy that has shown promise but hasn't been able to equate it in big moments, Hakim and McCardell are nearing if not at the end, and the others are practice squad fodder. They seriously have no WR corp at all.
Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2007 They also have this guy named Antonio Gates who's not too shabby at catching passes.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2007 Didn't SD draft Craig Davis in the 1st and not resign McCardell? But yeah, they could still use him. I'd take Keyshawn on the Eagles in a heartbeat.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2007 Those drops in the playoffs are one of the reasons the Chargers didn't beat the Patriots. I just don't see Keyshawn in the league anymore, I think he's heading for the Michael Irvin role on ESPN.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2007 McCardell was cut. Vincent Jackson will break out this year after showing promise last season. Then they have Craig Davis out of LSU and someone else they took later in the draft (who could very well be a Colston type steal), and they have Eric Parker who catches balls when he has to. The Chargers was never built around 4 WR sets or anything like that, since most of the passes went to LT or like cheech said, Gates. They are more than fine in that department. They don't need Keyshawn Johnson.
Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2007 If he was willing to take the minimum, I'd be fine with him filling in for Chris Henry. The Johnson cousins would be a interesting duo to watch. I think he's best served going to what appears to be a natural environment for him in a studio show.
Failed Bridge 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2007 They also have this guy named Antonio Gates who's not too shabby at catching passes. who is a TE. Do you see me mentioning their TEs? Is Keyshawn a TE? Why don't we just mention LT as well since he catches passes but isn't a WR when the point I'm trying to make is that they have no WR corp?

Is Keyshawn a TE? Why don't we just mention LT as well since he catches passes but isn't a WR when the point I'm trying to make is that they have no WR corp? Do you even understand how the Chargers play football? They don't need the 200 WRs that the Patriots so insecurely felt they needed. They are fine with what they have because they will only send 3 at the most on the field, and they will do fine enough jobs that they don't need Keyshawn Johnson. Like VX said, not everyone can be the Patriots.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2007 It is hoping a little too much though to count on two rooks and two breakout hopefuls. This team is too close to the SB. Bringing in Keyshawn, even if it is for camp and release him if the others blow the coach away, to have someone you know will catch 70 balls can ease some pressure off the young guys. Maybe it is just the Eagle fan in me, but we went through the same thing when Owens was booted ("well we have Reggie Brown and Greg Lewis who have shown things and we throw to the TE and RB anyway") and it wasn't as good. A three receiver set of Jackson, Johnson and Parker, with Davis coming in on packages and letting the late WR develop isn't the worst idea. They probably don't need him, but he wouldn't hurt. USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2007 Punting Marty Schottenheimer/Cam Cameron/Wade Phillips for Norv Turner is going to hurt the Chargers more than not bringing in Keyshawn Johnson. One of the reasons they cut Keenan McCardell was because they wanted to go younger. How progressive would it be to sign a guy only a few steps behind McCardell in age?
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2007 If you are talking degrees of hurt, of course the moronic coaching change is bigger. Because Johnson is better than McCardell. Again, they don't need him, but if you can get him for close to the minimum he would provide an option to help the younger receivers. He wouldn't steal time and stunt Parker and Jackson, he could be the number three receiver. It is asking a lot of Craig Davis to come into a SB contending team and expect him to be a big part of it. Like I said before though, if you bring in Keyshawn on the minimum and Davis blows away the coaching staff in TC then you can cut Keyshawn. More options don't hurt. USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2007 You're right. But I just got offended that you would imply the Chargers had nothing in that spot. And I guess I also just don't want to live in the same city as Keyshawn Johnson.
