It's often used erroneously to refer to a Manx cat (I know this because I've had two Manx cats myself). Â Anyway, I just looked it up... couldn't find any etymology for minx referring to a sexually voracious female. It is apparently an old spelling of mink... which in the past was associated with ladies of extravagance. I suppose it's sort of like a fox ie. attractive woman, and they both have an X in them. I think the X sound is naturally exotic, predating it's use as a pornographic rating. These animals are all fairly sleek and cunning. So is a cougar, for that matter. I think that's where the meaning lies. Somewhere in the exotic sounds and vaguely feline associations.
