cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2007 The AWA raid by far was more important. ECW was essentially an indy promotion and it was something guys were doing to get noticed by the big 2. Seemingly everyone from the AWA jumped ship to the WWF during the 1980s, including the big prize of Hogan. Sure, ECW lost guys like Austin and Foley to the WWF, but it's hardly like it was a big deal to ECW. They just went on with their business. Considering those guys had zero desire to go back to WCW they would have ended up in the WWF anyway. The AWA raid made the WWF the #1 most powerful promotion in the 1980s and also sent the AWA itself into bankruptcy. The wrestling world would look much, much different today with a thriving AWA. GODSON 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2007 Not to mention that the AWA was the most popular company in the US until Hogan left and had the biggest tv ratings. Everybody except Tommy Dreamer used ECW to get notice by WWE and WCW,plain and simple. How many times Sabu try to get in WCW and WWE during the 90's? He was ECW biggest star then. ECW was never a threat or as big as AWA.
