PsychoDriver Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 PWG's "All Star Weekend V" Takes Place April 7 & 8! By Silverback, PWG Staff Writer Citrus Heights, CA - Recently, myself and another Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (http://www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com) employee were discussing what type of professional wrestling fan would miss out on an event as spectacular as PWG's All Star Weekend V. I said it was a fan that was uncool. It's this huge event, tickets are highly in demand, and fans are coming from all over to see the shows. If you're a wrestling fan in Southern California and you don't attend PWG's All Star Weekend V, then you are simply uncool. The PWG employee I was conversing with, whose name sounds a lot like "Roey Jyan" said that the only type of fan that would miss this show was a stupid one. Then he said I was stupid for even asking. That's why "Roey Jyan" doesn't have a lot of friends. But no matter what your excuse may be, if you call yourself a fan of professional wrestling you can not afford to miss PWG's All Star Weekend V on April 7 & 8 at the Van Nuys Armory in beautiful Van Nuys, CA! NoCalMike Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 Shit, when I started reading the post and it said "Citrus Heights, CA" I was like "HOLY FUCK, that is 15mins from my house, I am sooooooooo going to this" Van Nuys is about a 6-8 drive depending on what time you leave Sacramento, and whether you take highway 99 or I-5. I have the cash for this, but I really would want at least ONE PERSON with me to take this long of a roadtrip. The card looks awesome. This http://www.spw-wrestling.com/index.php is the local indy fed in my town.
Corkscrew_Senton Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 Damn, I live in San Diego and would LOVE to go to this show. I'll sadly be in Oregon that weekend Both cards look like sex-in-a-can.
PsychoDriver Posted April 2, 2007 Author Report Posted April 2, 2007 New matches just added: Night 1: Kikutaro Vs. Colt Cabana Night 2: Kikutaro and Disco Machine vs Colt Cabana and Top Gun Talwar
PsychoDriver Posted April 9, 2007 Author Report Posted April 9, 2007 RANDOM RESULTS and thoughts on what was an outstanding weekend of shows: Show was great. I'd put it among the very best PWG shows ever. I'm really tired, but here's some short thoughts: - Starts off with Excalibur announcing Dragon Gate's DON FUJI would be at the tag tourney. Which got zero reaction. Later on Dino announced that Stalker Ichikawa would face Fuji at the tourney. Which got even less of a reaction. Should be a fun match though. - Disco Machine Over NOSAWA: Solid enough. Disco wins with the chokebreaker after NOSAWA stopped to mock Disco's dancing. - Rocky Over Strong: Fucking awesome. Everything you'd expect from these two. Maybe a little better there BOLA match. Rocky wins by submission with an armbar from the turnbuckle after Strong dominated early on. - Human Tornado Over Claudio: Another good match. Tornado's descent into total heeldom continues, as he abused Candice LeRae throughout the match. I forgot how he won, but I think Tornado won with a roll up with the tights. - Kikutaro Over MATT CLASSIC: Funny stuff, as you would expect. After Ref antics, Kiku wins after a fast count from the ref - Kevin Steen Over Jack Evans: IMO the only match of the night that didn't quite live up to expectations. Still good though. Steen hits a package piledriver on Evans, picks him up at 2. Then gives him the Steenalizer in the corner for the 3. Then Steen promises to kill Joey Ryan tomorrow night. - The Dynasty Over Kazarian, Ronin, TJ Perkins and Top Gun Talwar: Started off with the real Sky returning and jumping the fake Sky. Match kinda dragged in the middle, but had a really entertaining ending portion. Arrogance pinned Top Gun with a northern lights/backbacker combo - KAZ Hayashi Over Alex Shelley: Maybe it's because I'm a big Shelley fan, but I really loved this match. Good tech stuff from both. KAZ wins with the Final Cut. Probably my 3rd favorite of the night. - Low-Ki Over Davey: Real good, really stiff. Ki wins with the Ghetto Stomp. Impressive debut for Low-Ki - Generico Over PAC: Fucking crazy. Toward the end PAC missed a double moonsault and pretty much landed on his head. After a few crazy near falls. Generico finally puts PAC away with the turnbuckle brainbuster. Which didn't quite hit the turnbuckle.... only flaw in an otherwise excellent match. PAC is super over. So yeah... it definitely lived up to the hype for me. Good stuff all around. Buy this! NIGHT 2: 1. Kevin Steen def. Joey Ryan in a No Holds Barred match with his Package Piledriver through chairs. 2. TJ Perkins, Rocky Romero and Ronin def. Karl Anderson, Lil' Cholo and NOSAWA when Ronin trapped one of his opponents (I forget which) with a full-nelson rollup 3. Davey Richards def. Chris Hero with the AT Lock 4. Colt Cabana and TopGun Talwar def. Kikutaro and Disco Machine after a Colt 45 on Disco. 5. Claudio Castagnoli def. Alex Shelley with a springboard European uppercut. 6. Kaz Hayashi def. Pac with the Final Cut 7. Roderick Strong and Jack Evans vs. Arrogance went to a no-contest when Davey Richards and SUPER DRAGON ran in and destroyed anything that moved. Super Dragon is Davey's partner in the DDT4 Tag Tournament. 8. El Generico def. Human Tornado to retain the PWG title after a Tiger Suplex '85/Yakuza Kick/Brainbuster combo (not the turnbuckle version) 9. Samoa Joe def. Low Ki after the Muscle Buster. Show started VERY late, because while Ronin was testing the ropes after his entrance, the top rope COMPLETELY snapped off. (Now you know why wrestlers do that.) PWG tried to stall as long as possible, first by having Dino sing, then have Excalibur ramble and do merchandise shills, and they even brought out PAUL T (who was in attendance as a fan) to do a short speech. Finally, they rushed the Steen/Joey match out there (which I'm sure was supposed to go on much later) since it was the one match they could do without ropes. They still didn't have the ring set, so they moved the bottom rope to the top, and match #2 was contested without a bottom rope. I'm sure the planned Gauntlet match was scrapped in favor of a 6-man for time constraints. No explanation for Frankie's absence. Attendance was somewhere between 450-500 people. Cabana got the full streamer treatment, and was shown a lot of love after his extremely funny tag match. All-around a great evening of solid wrestling. While not a classic, Joe/Ki was the best match of theirs I've seen and sent the fans home very happy. MOTN, with Davey/Hero being the runner-up, in my opinion.
