CanadianChris Posted April 3, 2007 Author Report Posted April 3, 2007 What kind of idiots do playoff drafts. Actually, they're pretty fun. I won my pool at work two years running before I switched jobs. I'd probably go with Kariya or Selanne first, although Briere would be another good pick.
Red Baron Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 I'd go with Drury instead of Briere. Drury is a machine in the post season.
CanadianGuitarist Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 I get it. Lou turned that team into a beast last year when he took over. There's no risk in trying to strike gold twice. He should just coach the team permanently. They play their best when he's coaching. Yes on paper, no in practise. We've seen great coaches get entirely too run-down trying to juggle both. That can't be good on the ice or in the boardroom. Lamoriello is a genius, and fiercly devoted (anyone ever seen that giant depth chart in his office? Check the 2004-05 THN Yearbook if you haven't), but if Jacques Martin, Pat Quinn(he did coach 2 Leaf teams to the East finals) or Daryl Sutter couldn't do it, I'd have to think Lamoriello can't either... And I'm gonna answer with my boy Jarome Iginla. A proven playoff leader (see '04 finals), plenty of pedigree and talent, big game success (see '02 Olympics/'04 World Cup). I love Martin Gelinas, but I'd bet my testicles that he's not scoring all those game-winners again.
CanadianGuitarist Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 Roberto Luongo. Players wise, Zach Parise Yep, you're gonna have to back that one up. Luongo's never been to the playoffs. Parise has, and they both have international experience, but....Parise was your first pick, let alone your first pick on the New Jersey Devils?
Red Baron Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 He's gonna be ballin on the ice come playoff time. So what are the odds of that young guy Crosby going to do in the playoffs.
Guest Queen Leelee Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 I wouldn't take many Sabres. Besides them so obviously losing in painful fashion, Lindy just loves playing all 4 lines. And he'll even do it more in the playoffs.
Red Baron Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 If he can get production from all four, why not
Guest Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 I'd also think of picking someone from one of those Eastern teams that grabs the 7th or 8th spot. Fighting to get in usually has the team already in playoff mode, while the 1st or 2nd teams haven't played a really meaningful game in a while. You can say that those games playing for position are meaningful, but it's not the same. As far as the Lou thing goes, whatever happened to him hiring John Maclean after the playoffs last year. I read something about Maclean practically being the X's and O's guy behind the bench. Maybe that's what he wants to do this time, but he doesn't want to hand the team over to someone with no head coaching experience. Unless Maclean's not coaching there anymore, which I doubt.
cd213 Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 As far as the Devil's thing goes, if I were a candidate for coaching the team next year, I'd be scared since I know if I do a good job I'll get fired. Usually if you do a bad job you get fired. This happens all the time. Being a HUGE Rangers fan I have to love it tonight, we can clinch a playoff spot by beating the hated Ice-Landers. It hardly gets better then that. The only thing better would be to clinch the #1 spot overall, but that won't happen so the former is great. Should be a great game tonight. As far as picking a player for a playoff pool, might I suggest taking Martin St.Louis. He's a solid player who has playoff experience. Either him or Shannahan or Jagr. I know I'm a Ranger fan, but they are playing well right now and JAgr has come back to life recently.
CanadianChris Posted April 3, 2007 Author Report Posted April 3, 2007 I wouldn't take anyone that doesn't have a good shot at making the conference final with the first pick. That rules out the Lightning and the Rangers. I'd consider them with a later pick, though.
Annabelle Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 What kind of idiots do playoff drafts. why you baiting me, girl.
CanadianChris Posted April 3, 2007 Author Report Posted April 3, 2007 Geez, the Sens/Devils game is on PPV around here. Who in their right mind would pay to watch a Devils game on TV?
CanadianGuitarist Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 Things stay the same, to some degree: Leafs, Habs, Bolts win. The Bolts win, coupled with the Rangers OT game, eliminates the Canes from contention. This is the first time ever that both of the previous Cup finalists will not make the playoffs. The Rangers can also clinch if they win tonight, though it's in overtime now. A loss would not technically eliminate the Isles thanks to their point in tonight's game, but pretty close.
CanadianChris Posted April 4, 2007 Author Report Posted April 4, 2007 Great finish on Long Island, as the Rangers and Islanders played a furious OT to get to a shootout. The crowd is very pro-Rangers. Kudos to the music guy in Nassau Coliseum who played "Let's Get Rocked" by Def Leppard, which I haven't heard in 15 years.
Guest Queen Leelee Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 Sabres up 4-1 in Pittsburgh. Imagine how they'll play when games mean something to them.
CanadianChris Posted April 4, 2007 Author Report Posted April 4, 2007 ISLES WIN! but are eliminated from the playoffs. Still three playoff spots open in the East. Tampa and the Rangers can both clinch with one more point.
Red Baron Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 Scott Burnside of ESPN did a nice version of a playoff pool Pick one player from each team, and only one player. It has to be 10 forwards, 4 defencemen and 2 goalies. Point for a goal, assist and a win. Two points for GWG or SO goal or a Shutout.
Red Baron Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 Isles have a game in hand, and have the tiebreaker against Montreal and so does Toronto. Saku Koivu reached a career high of 22 goals this year.
CanadianChris Posted April 4, 2007 Author Report Posted April 4, 2007 Isles have a game in hand, and have the tiebreaker against Montreal and so does Toronto. First tiebreaker is wins. Montreal cannot be caught in that category by anyone trailing them. The guys doing the game for MSG were wrong, though, as the Isles are still alive.
mike546 Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 What Renney was thinking scratching Prucha to let Hollweg!?! play tonight, I have no clue.
CanadianGuitarist Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 The Islanders are not eliminated. They have 3 games to play to the Habs' 2. They have 86 points to the Habs' 90. A win of any kind by the Habs, or a loss of any kind eliminates them.
Red Baron Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 Hate Pierre Mcguire? Join this Facebook group who also hates him as well.
CanadianChris Posted April 5, 2007 Author Report Posted April 5, 2007 Maybe it's because I pretty much only hear him on the radio, but I just don't get the Pierre McGuire hate. He's extremely knowledgeable about hockey and articulate.
Guest Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 He says a lot of things that he should keep to himself. I like him though, mainly because I do the same thing.
Annabelle Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 its how he says what he knows. he's a douchebag.
Red Baron Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 its how he says what he knows. he's a douchebag. How? Maybe its just me, but people who I know, the majority of the people who hate McGuire are Leaf fans. Mind you these Leaf fans swear that Joe Bowen is the best PBP in the history of mankind.
fairtoflair7 Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 Big games tonight as Islander fans will be rooting for Ranger fans and vice versa. Doesn't happen to often If the Islanders can win their next 3 games, Toronto, At Philly, At NJ, and the Rangers beat the Habs tonight to clinch and Toronto, who would still be alive for the playoffs, beat the Habs at home on Saturday, the Islanders will get in. Unlikely but def possible
Red Baron Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 God damn you Damien Cox. You can find a way on how Mike Babcock can get fired from Detroit? God you are a f'n tool.
