Scroby Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 So two more DJ's are in trouble for..I guess..using race as a joke. The Doghouse who are on the FreeFM station in New York from 9 to 12 eastern got suspended without pay for re-playing a prank call that sterotyped asians. Basically they called a chinese resturant that had a machine talk to the guy at the chinese resturant saying sterotypical things about Asains. Fox News did a report on it last night, you can watch the story here www.doghousefans.com Before the Doghouse started airing in New York on FreeFM, they were here in San Fransisco. They were on air for 10 years in SF, and I actually did listen to them for all 10 years that their show was on here in the bay area. Now they've been doing that type of comedy since I first heard their show years ago, but they've always made it clear and have always said they were kidding and are not rasicts or anything like that. Personnally, I don't think they have got suspended or recieved any kind of punishment for the prank call. Espically since they didn't get in trouble for playing it the first time, they got suspended for re-playing the call. They've done that comedy for years and haven't really got in trouble for it. Yes, they have been suspsended and fired before, but those were for different things...not this. The only reason why I think they even got in trouble is because of the whole Don Imus crap. So I'm wondering what other peoples thoughts about this is.
The Amazing Rando Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 They would get in more trouble for putting someone on the air or recording someone for airplay that didn't know they were being recorded. Let them make stereotypical jokes if they want, whatever. But not getting someone's permission before putting them on the air (per more recent FCC guidelines) can be bad. Now, if they were replaying something they did 10 years ago when the rules might not have been like that, then fuck the complainers.
Scroby Posted April 25, 2007 Author Report Posted April 25, 2007 I actually think the call they re-played was something they actually did recently. According to the Fox News thing, they played the call a day after the Imus "Nappy-headed Ho's" comment but they replayed the call on Monday, and thats what they got in trouble for.
The Amazing Rando Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 This could also be a case of them doing a bit...and just *acting* like they were calling a Chinese Restaurant. (see: Bob & Tom's "GODZIRRRRA! AHHHH!" moments when a Japanese caller calls in whenever Godzilla is brought up...then when Bob and or Tom say "Godzilla" the caller (along with a giant group in the background) screams in horror). If that's the case, then...again...fuck the complaints. There's like 20 radio stations in New York. I'm sure you can find another one to listen to. I know, people will say "that's not a valid argument", but it is. If you don't like what someone is doing, ignore it. There's enough psychotic people in the world that most radio shows that exist in that format aren't going to lose a ton of listeners over something like this. Anyone that's a fan of it isn't going to be bothered by it, usually, so that means that whomever complained probably...PROBABLY...was not part of the fanbase.
Scroby Posted April 25, 2007 Author Report Posted April 25, 2007 hehe, I love that bit on bob and tom. I think the "changing the channel" argument is the best argument. I mean if something like that call offended someone, that person can change the station. Again I think its just random people complaining about the call because of the whole Don Imus thing and unfortunaily CBS got scared and decided to take the Doghouse off the air and suspend them. I'm just hoping they don't get fired..and if CBS puss'es out and does fire them, I'm hoping Stern will pick them up and I'll go out and subsribe to Satilette raido so I can listen to them again.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 I'm always amazed by how many people listen to terrible morning talk radio. The Doghouse? Are you shitting me?

Edwin MacPhisto Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 My initial judgment was on the name and your description of what got them in trouble. Then I went to the link you provided, and was totally confirmed as right by a bunch of retarded prank calls and guys going "YEAH-UH!" and such, exactly the same as any other morning show built for 16-year-olds and the worst kind of frat boy. Listen to some music or the news. Also, the fact that Rando has extensive knowledge of and passion for something is generally a warning sign.

I Was gonna say you wouldnt worry about them headed to XM because of their feud with O&A but I see they're all buddies now after the Imus thing.

Actually I think The Doghouse and Stern were on good terms when the doghouse first went over to FreeFM, so thats why I'm assuming Stern would pick them up for his channel, if the Doghouse were let go by CBS. Though I don't know anything about the O&A feud they had going. My initial judgment was on the name and your description of what got them in trouble. Listen to some music or the news. Ok at least your saying "I've never listened to their show, but I think its a stupid show because their called the Doghouse." and making yourself sound stupid in the process of it. But I think you should honestly listen to their show before you assume what they're show is actually about. If you ever get an actual chance to listen to their show, you might actually be quite surprised. Then again maybe not, but I think its pretty unfair for you to judge the show before you have had actually heard it, and no, listening to two minutes of the show is not listening to the show.
Guest Richard McBeef Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 I guess Edwin missed the segments where the Doghouse tackled wine-tasting and postmodern lit. WHY WON'T YOU GIVE THEM A CHANCE He's right. Morning drive is the dregs. My dad had been working with the AIR Awards for the last few years, and one of the things his committee was charged with was judging the best morning drive shows in mid-sized markets: Raleigh-Durham, Nashville, Buffalo, Columbus, that general tier of markets. He told me that they were universally similar and universally awful, and how it was really kind of creepy to keep hearing the same variations on "ZIGGY'S MORNING ZOO!" over and over, with the dumb loud host, the newsroom girl that has to laugh at every bad joke, the whipping boy producer/board-op, the dumb stunts, all of it the same, all of it bad. I can't even imagine having to listen to demo tape after demo tape of that stuff and trying to pick one that's better than its peers.
Guest Tzar Lysergic Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 Oh man, that's a nightmare. The local big stations here have Bob and Tom, who are based in Indy, I think. Rock 104 has some random suckasses interspersed with classic rock staples, what you just described on the meathead Metallica station, and the midwest radio equivalent of E! News on the rap station. Meathead Metallica station has a feature called "Boob Sizes for Prizes" where the hosts attempt to judge a caller's bra size by a variety of methods that make for the worst listening possible.
Slayer Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 Bob and Tom "bla bla bla bla HAHAHAHAHAHA... bla bla bla bla HAHAHAHAHA...HAHAHAHAHA"
theintensifier Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 Boo hoo. Cry me a fucking river already. Our country has turned out to be a bunch of whining little bitches.
Ted the Poster Posted April 26, 2007 Report Posted April 26, 2007 He told me that they were universally similar and universally awful, and how it was really kind of creepy to keep hearing the same variations on "ZIGGY'S MORNING ZOO!" over and over, with the dumb loud host, the newsroom girl that has to laugh at every bad joke, the whipping boy producer/board-op, the dumb stunts, all of it the same, all of it bad. Indeed. 95% of it is stuff you'd hear on another fifty shows across the country at the same time.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted April 26, 2007 Report Posted April 26, 2007 As a rule of thumb, prank calls on radio shows are never, ever funny.
Copper Feel Posted April 26, 2007 Report Posted April 26, 2007 Oh, I totally agree with that statement, although the "victims" inevitable response of "Who put you up to that? ohhh, I am gonna kill em!" is ultimately far more annoying.
