Hank Kingsley 0 Report post Posted June 21, 2007 Great, give away the ending to Kane Glad you missed the point of the movie entirely.
Hank Kingsley 0 Report post Posted June 21, 2007 Oh, and I just saw the list. I'm SO excited Sunrise made it. My favorite silent film and one of those really magical movies. If it was any other movie the ending would seem cliched by today's standards, but I just love it. Highly recommended if you haven't seen it. Vertigo is my favorite Hitchcock, so I'm glad that's so high. GoodFellas should be much higher, Strangelove should be much higher. But what do I know about movie lists? Boogie Nights is my favorite movie.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted June 21, 2007 You know what's wild about Sunrise? Some years ago I read a magazine called Classic Images and they had a poll like this from readers. The top 4 was GWTW, Casablanca, Kane, and then Sunrise. There's so much stuff I'd put on this list that wasn't on here. How about Laura? Red River? From Here to Eternity? All Quiet on the Western Front, which vanished from the list and pissed me off? How about Paths of Glory? Rebecca, Touch of Evil, the list goes on and on. The Big Sleep, The Adventures of Robin Hood, and so on. The biggest snub to me was The Big Sleep. How is Maltese Falcon so much better, aside from perhaps having better heels? And good grief, can't we get some real Cagney stuff on the list instead of Yankee Doodle Dandy?
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2007 But what do I know about movie lists? Boogie Nights is my favorite movie. I recall arguing it's merits on this board, but I've done a complete 180. I rewatched it recently and I absolutely loved this film, the scenes move seamlessly and all the characters are given proper time to discuss their stories. There's no shame in having this one pretty high.
