Hawk 34 Posted July 10, 2007 Report Posted July 10, 2007 The reason was that they didn't want to put the title on Burke or Cor Von because they thought Benoit would be back in a couple days and he'd take the title back, making Nitro a virtual fluke. They wanted Benoit-Punk as the main angle.
veseo Posted July 10, 2007 Report Posted July 10, 2007 Since Benoit didn't show, he abdicated his victory over Burke in the tournament thus meaning that it would be logical for Elijah to take his place. Along with him already having existing issues with Punk, being an entrenched character on the program and just plain being better than Nitro, it would have made more sense. Yea, that's what I was thinking, I also didn't agree with that decision. The reason was that they didn't want to put the title on Burke or Cor Von because they thought Benoit would be back in a couple days and he'd take the title back, making Nitro a virtual fluke. They wanted Benoit-Punk as the main angle. That's what most of the people think and, actually, it makes sense.

Hunter's Torn Quad Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 If they're intent on Nitro someday being a star, they're going to try him out in that position in ECW, and that means lengthy title reign. If they're serious about Nitro, then the soonest he'll drop the belt is maybe Summerslam.
