Good music editing software

Recommended Posts

Anyone here make any beats on their computer? The basic gist of it is this; I'd like to take samples from existing songs, take different parts of them (say just the vocals from one, the drumline of another, the synth line from something else) and mix and match to my heart's content. Also I'd like to create my own songs using a program that simply has a wide array of soundbytes of its own to use.

Does anyone know of good programs on how to do this, or if it's even feasible? I don't know the ins and outs, so if anyone can explain where exactly to get started, because it honestly appears as if there's way too much information out there.

Taking segments (like drum tracks, and stuff) I think would have to be done with master tracks. I am not sure you can strip down a track to it's elements onces it's mixed into a full song, but if you can I'd love to know how as well.

But as far as audio software, Adobe Audition is the best one that I've worked with so far.

Audacity is the best open source (read: free!) program there is out there. I did a lot of stuff I could've done with Pro Tools easily on there. Very, very useful.

Yeah, there's no way to separate the different parts of songs like that unless you have access to master tracks.

But for editing software, Audacity is a good (free) place to start.

Are you familiar with FL Studio? It's the best of its kind that is free.

My brother, who produces and sells beats, swears by this as well.
