Guest Chumpstain Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 There's no way Buffalo is going to make the playoffs, let alone win the division. They lost Drury and Briere, but they played large parts of last season without Drury already due to the Neil hit. The thing about Buffalo is that whenever one of their players got injured, they just call up another one, plug him in, and go on without skipping a beat. Who exactly was Drew Stafford? He comes in and plays very well in an injury-replacement role, dazzling everyone with his play, and then come playoff time he winds up not seeing much ice because everyone's back. The other teams wish they had that kind of depth. They likely won't be as good this year as they were last year, but they'll still be good enough to win their division. Ottawa is the only real threat to them there, anyway. And their 16 'gimme' games against Boston and Toronto will certainly propel them up the standings.
World's Worst Man Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 Yes, Bell was just a throw-in for the Toskala deal. I just wonder where this suspension is coming from since the drunk driving incident happened a year ago. Were they just waiting for the sentencing or what?
CanadianGuitarist Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 There's no way Buffalo is going to make the playoffs, let alone win the division. Who exactly was Drew Stafford? Might be forever known as the guy that Alexander Perezoghin tried to kill in the Hammer. Also, while not nearly as well-known, was part of a unique glitch that occured in NHL 07 last year, after the downloading of an online update patch thing. Turns out if you adjusted lines before the game in any manner, the goalie was automatically pulled, and Stafford was on the ice the entire game. After a night of drinking, led to great fun. We all thought we were all just really really hammered until trying it again the next morning. Also, Baron, I'll re-iterate: That's just money in the bank. They're way deeper than they get credit for. They've still got eight players returning with 15 or more goals, and three players with PPG status. Briere and Drury are, no doubt, huge losses, but there's still more than enough talent on the team to get them to the spring dance, even if they won't waltz in like they have the last two seasons. I get the feeling Baron's better half, a Sabres fan, will be introducing him to the Chesterfield Inn at least once between now and October 4.
treble Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 Bouwmeester better get suspended now, too.
CanadianChris Posted September 4, 2007 Author Report Posted September 4, 2007 JR is back! Everyone rejoice! One year, $500K with San Jose.
KGB Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 There's no way Buffalo is going to make the playoffs, let alone win the division. Who exactly was Drew Stafford? Might be forever known as the guy that Alexander Perezoghin tried to kill in the Hammer. That was Garrett Stafford. Anyway, I'd like to give my own predictions but I've been really out of the loop this offseason.
Prophet of Mike Zagurski Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 Just bringing this back because I think only 6 or 7 people signed up: I started a fantasy hockey league on Yahoo. This is rotisserie style. I know last season there was a head to head one also. http://hockey.fantasysports.yahoo.com/league/tsm League: The Smark Marks Pass: TSM ID: 10042 I screwed up like last year and put Smark in the title. I set the draft at 8:30 EDT/5:30 PST on Sept 8th.
CanadianGuitarist Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 JR is back! Everyone rejoice! One year, $500K with San Jose. God dammit. Colourful does not mean likeable. What shitty news.
Red Baron Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 Max. Pierre Turgeon just retired. Does he belong in the Hall of Fame? Or is he on the bubble like Damphousse? Still, I don't believe Buffalo is going to be in the playoffs? Exactly how many games did they come back and got at least a point? How much was Drury and Briere involved on the PP and PK during the regular season? I'm sorry, but this team still has questions? Can Vanek, Kotalik and Stafford lead the team since now they are the main threat of the team? Can Buffalo still be a threat on all lines, or maybe a two line threat only? I'll give them the highest of 7th place, but thats pushing it.
Red Baron Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 JR is back! Everyone rejoice! One year, $500K with San Jose. God dammit. Colourful does not mean likeable. What shitty news. No, its awesome. JR is a great embassador towards hockey in the United States.
Red Baron Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 So, Koivu mentioned that the Habs aren't going to win the cup this year. No shit, but he guaranteed the Habs will make the playoffs. I don't see the controvery. I mean its better to be honest than being optimistic. Also Fernando Pisani is out indefinitly with some type of stomach lining conditiion.
Red Baron Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 And while on the subject of the Habs, they unveiled their new jerseys, and there's only a slight change in the collar. Thats it.
CanadianChris Posted September 5, 2007 Author Report Posted September 5, 2007 Max. Pierre Turgeon just retired. Does he belong in the Hall of Fame? Or is he on the bubble like Damphousse? Definitely on the bubble (although I wouldn't say he's like Damphousse, because I think Damphousse is a definite no). Personally, I'd have a hard time voting him in. Turgeon has never been a particularly memorable player -- he was hardly ever among the league scoring leaders, never won any awards, and his teams never went far in the playoffs.
AntiLeaf33 Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 And while on the subject of the Habs, they unveiled their new jerseys, and there's only a slight change in the collar. Thats it. Yeah, just a change of the color to have the new NHL logo in it. Calgary however has changed up their uniform a bit. They now have vertical stripes and the flags of Alberta and Canada on their shoulders.
Red Baron Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 Larry Robinson and Bob Gainey will have their number retired this year. How soon will St. Patrick will have his number in the rafters.
CanadianChris Posted September 12, 2007 Author Report Posted September 12, 2007 The league set Mark Bell's suspension at 15 games.
treble Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 The Leafs new jerseys are ok. They kind of look like practice uniforms, though, I think because of the lack of a shoulder patch. Hopefully something is put back next year.
Guest Gym Class Fallout Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 They need a stripe near the bottom. 5 point infraction. The old Avs sweaters were getting to look like a '90s artifact, but these are terrible. I still don't know what the fuck that's supposed to be.
CanadianChris Posted September 13, 2007 Author Report Posted September 13, 2007 The Buffalo uniform looks more like an NFL jersey than a hockey sweater.
Prophet of Mike Zagurski Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Hurray for the Buffalo slug. I think Avs jersey looks to generic.
Fartsauce Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Apparently for NHL 08, the RBK jersey code was leaked out and all the jerseys revealed. I'm too lazy to post pictures so i'll just post the link to the board.. http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=418457 scroll down a few posts and they got a couple of pictures. I don't mind the Oilers away jersey but the home is just hideous.
Guest Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 I don't understand why most teams decided to add the Reebok features to the jersey sweater. As we've seen, it's optional. Atlanta's home jersey sweater is disgusting. I'd say the Blues jersey sweater is too, but they're the Blues. At least it fits the profile. There's nothing baby blue about the Thrashers.
Prophet of Mike Zagurski Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 I don't like the Duck's jersey. I think the logo is too small.
treble Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 At least they're not wearing an apron.
Guest Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Cloutier has played like big time dogshit tonight. Not on TV, but I've read some reports and it doesn't sound very good at all. I think Aubin's going to be the starter.
Prophet of Mike Zagurski Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Ducks lost to the Kings. 16,900+ came to Anaheim to watch a pre season game. I hate the NHL's new online scoresheets. Too many stats.
treble Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 I don't like the home sweaters, why do they have 'DALLAS' so prominent? I'd hope the fans going to the games would know what city they're in. I also don't like the road ones, the small number on the front shoulder has got to go, as do those elbow things.
Prophet of Mike Zagurski Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 Can't wait for Dallas and Vancouver to play each other. No more numbers on the front please.
