Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2007 Internet community. I don't remember the "IC" bashing The Rock much.
Guest solanoz Report post Posted October 1, 2007 Oh, okay, thanks for explaining that. I like the Rock, he's so awesome on the mic. Very entertaining in the ring as well. I remember a promo where he parodied Stone Cold, Undertaker, Rikishi, etc. It was pretty funny.
mfn 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2007 i don't think i can recall the IC ever bashing The Rock either, although I wasn't an extremely active member until the days of Goldust and Mr. Perfect returning around the time of a Royal Rumble PPV.
garfieldsnose 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2007 The IC definitely bashed The Rock because he was becoming "corny" and "predictable" and his promos started getting boring because he'd say the same thing over and over. Stuff like "shove that sumbitch sideways and stick it straight up your candy ass" and "if you smell what the Rock is cookin'"....people just started getting bored with it. Same thing is happening with Cena. They're bored with him because his gimmick changed from a rapper, and they'd rather see him have some edge like Rock used to. He wasn't that great in the ring, either. However, he was better than current-day Cena.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2007 Better timing, better moveset, better selling, better look...he was just all-around better than Cena.

Toxxic 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2007 Well, I think this thread can now be closed. Cena's title reign came to an end at the hands of... ...his own pectoral muscle. HUSTLE LOYALTY RESPECT

The Rock was defiently great in the ring, all you have to do is ask anyone who has ever been in the ring with him, and look at his catologe of classic matches. Toxxic 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2007 Define 'great'. In terms of being a consummate ring technician who knew holds, counterholds and so on, and performed the moves he did crisply and cleanly then no, the Rock wasn't great (is that a Sharpshooter or an ankle massage? Was that a belly-to-belly or did you just fall backwards and throw your arms in the air? Call that a urinage? Cos I call it you falling forwards). In terms of being able to work the crowd, understand heat, when to make the face comeback and put on matches that (sorry for the pun) electrified the arena then yes, he was great. Kristianna 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2007 The Rock oozed charisma. He was a good looking guy with a great voice and cadence for promos. His match psychology was awesome, and he had some ultra-over spots. But yeah, needless to say... his ring work was pretty average other than that. Still, I always enjoyed him, whether as a heel or face. Fuck, I think I preferred him as a heel. His "Rock Concerts" were some of the most awesome heel promos I'd ever seen. And yes, his Sharpshooter was fucking ridiculous.

The Rock is the farthest thing from a ring techncian, you don't need to be a techncial wrestler to be a great wrestler. The Rock was more of a brawler style with loads of enegry and a pretty wide moveset. When The Rock was in the ring, he was always able to tell a story, it just wasn't a wrestling match. Everyone of his peers even great techncial wrestlers like Benoit, Guerrero, Angle, Jericho, all commented on how intense and how great Rock was in the ring. I'll take their words over most people who haven't even been in the ring, because I believe their opinions is more valid. The Rock's intensity, energy, and understanding on how to make a great match far exceeds his techncial wrestling.
