... 0 Report post Posted October 25, 2007 For me, Ordinary People should have waited until the 300 billion disc Archives set that was supposed to come out at any point over the last twenty years. I prefer the live recording with the Bluenotes from the bootlegs over the new studio version. But Bluebird and Boxcar are from the same era and they sound pretty good as well. I like Dirty Old Man, too.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted October 25, 2007 Technically, the Archives have started already with the two live discs recently released. The first box set "will" be released next February.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted October 25, 2007 I really fail to see how this version is any different/worse than the 1988 stuff.
... 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2007 Eighteen minute magnum opuses just seem better suited to live shows than the studio. If Sixty To Zero for example had made it on to "Freedom" in it's full eighteen minute form, it wouldn't have had the same impact as the much tighter Crime In The City incarnation. (Although the longer version didn't excise some of the better verses.)
