scam I was offered

That doesn't sound exactly right, though. It said they'll be mailing checks to him, which means they wouldn't be made out by him, so I don't see how attempting to cash them would end up with him owing money. It's still clearly some sort of scam though, the "get rich by working 5 minutes per week" pretty much gives it away. I stand by my cocaine revenue laundry with high employee "turnover" theory.

The check would bounce after you cashed it and sent it to the next guy, Jingus. You're on the hook for the money. The other two guys were running the scam. The guy got his money that you forwarded to him. If you have ever received a bad check, you will know what I'm talking about.
