I would like to see the Pats sign Ernest Wilford to replace Stallworth. Moss(he'll be back), Wilford, and Welker.

Speaking of the Falcons, reports are stating that the Giants are interested in trading for DeAngelo Hall.

I've seen the Bucs linked to both DeAngelo Hall and Javon Walker today. Of the two, I'd rather have Hall. Walker is an injury-prone malcontent. We'd almost certainly have to give up high draft picks to get either, and I'm really not in favor of that.

The problem I see with Kearse is that I don't think he is going to sign for the money that would fit his usefulness. If he could be had on the cheap (like the Pats scenario) and you send him in as a stand up rusher on third downs he may still have something left. Unfortunately he will probably want something along the lines of starter money, which he is clearly not suited for at this point.

Kansas City? Atlanta? Carolina? Miami?

 

Surely one of those teams has a fifth round pick and 2nd string right guard they'd be willing to trade for an inconsistent QB with the ability to get the ball down the field.

Atlanta would be the other one where every guy currently on the roster has been a failure. Carolina still has Delhomme and Miami may or may not like John Beck. Minnesota would be another team that might be interested. Lovie Smith likes the guy too much to get rid of him, though. Rex is your quarterback.

See, the way I've got it figured is that Garcia's good for another two seasons. After that, we can ride the wave of the Jake Plummer comeback until the 2012-2013 season, easily. Then Chris Simms, with it having been established that his previous deficiencies as a QB were almost entirely due to his abnormally heavy spleen, will lead us to championship glory many times over. So we're set, thanks.

Garcia turns 38 years old tomorrow, and nine seasons for average or worse teams is a looooooong life for an undersized journeyman QB. If he survives this year it'll be a miracle.

 

I was surprised to see him be productive in Philly, let alone Tampa.

Poor Rex will really need to step up his game this season but with a decent O-line he could be productive. At the end of last season he was producing when he had time in the pocket. When he was blitzed he paniced. If the bears are smart they will probably pick up a QB in the draft/ free agency.

Maybe the Bears should call Drew Bledsoe and let him start with Rex as the back-up. That seems to have worked. When you want to develop a quarterback, let him watch Drew try to fit the ball into holes that don't exist anymore and then just tell him, "Ok, don't do that!"

 

The Bears would have to be nuts not to draft a quarterback in round two. Absolutely nuts.

Yeah, usually I'm all for teams hanging around and waiting for a QB to work out the kinks in their inconsistency so they can be great over time (and in the end, you have a "homegrown product") but Grossman is never going to be a good NFL quarterback. Maybe he can latch on somewhere as a backup and ride out the rest of his career that way (hell if Doug Pederson and Chris Chandler-minus the Falcons years, of course- can..).

Yeah, at this point, WYSIWYG with Rex. He's not getting any better, taller, faster, or smarter. He's a known quantity. On the other hand, maybe Kyle Orton might yet develop into a passable game manager. After all, we did see some promising work at the end of last year, even with a third-string running back. We probably don't need Rex's arm for this season pending any major signings, because Lovie Smith told us that Mark Bradley is our first-string wide receiver. Mark Bradley is our first-string wide receiver. We'll really have to keep it simple, then. My question to Lovie: are we rebuilding or contending?
