Failed Bridge Posted February 22, 2008 Report Posted February 22, 2008 Randy Moss is apparently the cover guy for Madden 09. Saw it at the mall. I would like to see the Pats sign Ernest Wilford to replace Stallworth. Moss(he'll be back), Wilford, and Welker.
Lt. Al Giardello Posted February 22, 2008 Report Posted February 22, 2008 Speaking of the Falcons, reports are stating that the Giants are interested in trading for DeAngelo Hall. http://blog.nj.com/ledgergiants/2008/02/gi...r_deangelo.html Don't know why... Giants have good CB's, and DeAngelo has been known to cause problems.
Sideburnious Posted February 22, 2008 Report Posted February 22, 2008 If the Eagles are looking for a CB, Hall would be a good pick up.
Kinetic Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 I've seen the Bucs linked to both DeAngelo Hall and Javon Walker today. Of the two, I'd rather have Hall. Walker is an injury-prone malcontent. We'd almost certainly have to give up high draft picks to get either, and I'm really not in favor of that. So I hear Rex might be staying in Chicago.
Kinetic Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 Rex is staying in Chicago for at least another year. In other news, Zach Thomas has signed with Dallas and Philadelphia has released Jevon Kearse.
Guest Michael Myers Resplendent Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 Where do you see that? The Trib says they just offered him a contract.
Guest Vitamin X Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 Hmmm, Jevon Kearse? Wonder what he's got left in the tank? Oh, he'll probably just sign with the Pats for the league minimum anyways.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 I don't like Rex Grossman, but I have to admire his determination to be a Bear.
Guest Vitamin X Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 Hahahahaha. I hope Rex Grossman stays a Bear forever.

the pinjockey Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 Hmmm, Jevon Kearse? Wonder what he's got left in the tank? Oh, he'll probably just sign with the Pats for the league minimum anyways. The problem I see with Kearse is that I don't think he is going to sign for the money that would fit his usefulness. If he could be had on the cheap (like the Pats scenario) and you send him in as a stand up rusher on third downs he may still have something left. Unfortunately he will probably want something along the lines of starter money, which he is clearly not suited for at this point.
Guest Michael Myers Resplendent Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 Anyone will take the league minimum, or at least a significant pay cut, for the privilege of playing for the hoodie-clad asswipe.
Guest Tzar Lysergic Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 Rex was born to be a New England Patriot.
Kinetic Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 He might have some trouble unseating the guy who hasn't started a game since junior high for the backup spot.
Guest Tzar Lysergic Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 Is anyone out there even more desperate for a QB than Chicago? Kansas City? Atlanta? Carolina? Miami? Surely one of those teams has a fifth round pick and 2nd string right guard they'd be willing to trade for an inconsistent QB with the ability to get the ball down the field.
Kinetic Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 Atlanta would be the other one where every guy currently on the roster has been a failure. Carolina still has Delhomme and Miami may or may not like John Beck. Minnesota would be another team that might be interested. Lovie Smith likes the guy too much to get rid of him, though. Rex is your quarterback.
Guest Tzar Lysergic Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 Gruden likes to collect shit/questionable QBs. Let's make a deal, Tampa! By the way, if I hear the words "Rex Grossman is our quarterback" come out of Lovie's mouth, in that order, before the start of the season, I'm officially a Colts fan until either Grossman or Lovie are gone.
Kinetic Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 See, the way I've got it figured is that Garcia's good for another two seasons. After that, we can ride the wave of the Jake Plummer comeback until the 2012-2013 season, easily. Then Chris Simms, with it having been established that his previous deficiencies as a QB were almost entirely due to his abnormally heavy spleen, will lead us to championship glory many times over. So we're set, thanks.
Guest Tzar Lysergic Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 Two seasons?! Garcia turns 38 years old tomorrow, and nine seasons for average or worse teams is a looooooong life for an undersized journeyman QB. If he survives this year it'll be a miracle. I was surprised to see him be productive in Philly, let alone Tampa.
Guest Michael Myers Resplendent Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 regarding Rex: The grass always looks greener, but it's got to be mowed, too. I never understand what Jerry Angelo is trying to say. "We're not here to outsmart anyone, or show off any of our geniusness," indeed.

I never understand what Jerry Angelo is trying to say. "We're not here to outsmart anyone, or show off any of our geniusness," indeed. I think he means "There may be more talented QBs with more potential, but we'd have to groom them and teach them and build them just as much as we have to groom and teach and build Rex"
Guest Tzar Lysergic Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 One would figure the general manager of a sports franchise would understand the concept of ROI.
Sideburnious Posted February 24, 2008 Report Posted February 24, 2008 Poor Rex will really need to step up his game this season but with a decent O-line he could be productive. At the end of last season he was producing when he had time in the pocket. When he was blitzed he paniced. If the bears are smart they will probably pick up a QB in the draft/ free agency. In other news Donte Stallworth has been released from his contract.
2GOLD Posted February 24, 2008 Report Posted February 24, 2008 Rex will be on the bench by Game 5. Maybe the Bears should call Drew Bledsoe and let him start with Rex as the back-up. That seems to have worked. When you want to develop a quarterback, let him watch Drew try to fit the ball into holes that don't exist anymore and then just tell him, "Ok, don't do that!" The Bears would have to be nuts not to draft a quarterback in round two. Absolutely nuts.

He's been on the Bears for FIVE YEARS!
Guest Vitamin X Posted February 24, 2008 Report Posted February 24, 2008 Yeah, usually I'm all for teams hanging around and waiting for a QB to work out the kinks in their inconsistency so they can be great over time (and in the end, you have a "homegrown product") but Grossman is never going to be a good NFL quarterback. Maybe he can latch on somewhere as a backup and ride out the rest of his career that way (hell if Doug Pederson and Chris Chandler-minus the Falcons years, of course- can..).
Guest Michael Myers Resplendent Posted February 24, 2008 Report Posted February 24, 2008 Yeah, at this point, WYSIWYG with Rex. He's not getting any better, taller, faster, or smarter. He's a known quantity. On the other hand, maybe Kyle Orton might yet develop into a passable game manager. After all, we did see some promising work at the end of last year, even with a third-string running back. We probably don't need Rex's arm for this season pending any major signings, because Lovie Smith told us that Mark Bradley is our first-string wide receiver. Mark Bradley is our first-string wide receiver. We'll really have to keep it simple, then. My question to Lovie: are we rebuilding or contending?
