There was a man on 3rd with 1 out when he came in. 0.2 innings with 2K and scattering 1 hit is very good with the bases full. Great. Exemplary. but I also need to question why Willie wouldn't place Wagner in that position. Let's ask Joe Torre. Considering he's hardly been used this season, there's no reason Wagner couldn't have worked five outs. Wagner pitched 1 inning saves the last 2 days against Washington. Yeah, he didn't get many opportunities before that. But, closing 3 straight days is questionable enough especially with ol' Billy. I'm often critical of him -- but good grief, he's better than Aaron Heilman. So, you're critical of Billy Wagner. Yeah, he's a prick, but he's also one of the best closers of all fucking time. He hasn't allowed a run this year, and has a .143 WHIP. Heilman has a had a fairly rough 10 innings so far this year. There's a ton of relievers and closers who are worse. THAT'LL LEARN 'EM. So, under your rule, every NFL team should have traded their 1st round pick to NE. Since NE would have to forfeit them due to learning a lesson. People want to bash the Orioles pitching staff but the Yankees staff as it exists right now is absolutely pathetic. No. People don't give a fuck about the Orioles. So what does everyone think of Dennis Dixon? I really liked the guy before he got injured and I hear he's just an absolute freak because he's farther along in his recovery than he should be. I think someone will get a steal in the later rounds. That's a good reason to draft someone. I select Kurt Angle #1 overall because he overcame a torn quad in one evening with his magic pills. Joe Borowski last year was as bad a closer (in terms of ERA) as any team has had in recent memory Joe Blow wasn't bad in just terms of ERA. He's bad in every fucking way. Your comment isn't bullshit... more so the local Cleveland station I get that thinks he's clutch, can't lose him, blah blah blah... because he's GRITTY and DIRTY throwing that 83 MPH heat that gets pounded every at-bat. Granted, there's some validity to this as Betancourt, Perez and Kobayashi (the Jap version of Borowski, a shitload of saves despite pitching terribly) are not pitching great. But, Borowski is awful. And just to answer for completeness, he's been great other than the first year where he had nagging injuries. No, not as great as The Greatest Playoff Year In History 2004 That Beltran Only Did To Get Paid. But, he even added significantly more power to his already solid 5-tool game. I don't care what anyone says it's easier to fill a rotation spot with a serviceable starter than find a great intimidating reliever. Why are we assuming that Joba would just be a "serviceable" starter. This argument is so ridiculously stupid to begin with. The only reason Joba isn't starting yet is because Cashman doesn't want to increase his workload so much in a short period. ~200 innings of good pitching > ~80 innings of middle relief. The end.
