Here's a breakdown of the playoff situation as of right now.

1st tiebreaker is season series.

2nd tiebreaker is division record, if teams are in same division. Or conference record, if not.

3rd tiebreaker, if teams are in same division, is conference record.

East

1. Boston (65-16, clinched homecourt advantage throughout playoffs)

2. Detroit (58-23, cinched Central Division and #2 seed)

3. Orlando (51-30, clinched Southeast Division and #3 seed)

4. Cleveland (45-36, clinched playoff berth)

5. Washington (43-38, clinched playoff berth)

6. Toronto (41-40, clinched playoff berth)

7. Philadelphia (40-41, clinched playoff berth)

8. Atlanta (37-44, clinched playoff berth)

All the matchups in the East are set.

West (relevant tiebreakers)

1. LA Lakers (57-25, clinched Pacific Division and #1 seed)

2. New Orleans (56-25, clinched Southwest Division and #2 seed)

3. San Antonio (55-26, clinched playoff berth) (HOU)

4. Utah (54-27, clinched Northwest division) (SA, HOU, PHO)

5. Houston (54-27, clinched playoff berth) (PHO)

6. Phoenix (54-27, clinched playoff berth) (SA)

7. Dallas (50-31, clinched playoff berth)

8. Denver (49-32, clinched playoff berth) (DAL)

The winner of the Utah/SA game on Wednesday locks up the #3 spot.

San Antonio locks up a top 4 spot with a win OR a loss by Phoenix.

Utah locks up homecourt advantage in the first round with a win OR losses by Houston AND Phoenix.

Houston locks up at least the #5 spot with a win OR a Phoenix loss.

Dallas locks up the #7 spot with a win OR a Denver loss.

I got all the numbers from NBA.com (go to the standings, and there's a link at the top that says Playoff Picture). I did all the splitting into groups, though.

That's more like it, Dallas.

The Suns had nine points in the fourth quarter. That's unthinkable.

Denver just lost to Seattle in double OT, clinching playoff berths for the Suns and Rockets. Dallas now has a 2-game lead on the Nuggets and Warriors.

The way the Magic are playing right now, I cannot see the Raptors beating them in a seven game series.

And the Pistons are doing pretty good. Resting their starters, the bench and young players are doing well, and they are still winning games. Granted, its against teams that have for the most part already checked out mentally, but its a good thing that they are keeping things on a simmer heading into the playoffs.

I actually want the suns to be in the 6th spot and grab the Lakers in the first round and not the Jazz. I think the Jazz is a much tougher matchup.

I dont like them losing to playoff teams by only scoring 9 points in the 4th. I think Nash shot too much (how often do you say that?) and that D'Antoni left Amare on the bench too long. But its just one loss. Still would have been a nice win.

The Raptors may not be able to beat them, but the Magic still have the best chance of losing in round 1 out of the top 4 seeds.

Also, the Bulls are *technically* still in contention! <_<

Technically I am getting some suite tickets for the probably 2 playoff games that will take place at Philips Arena. (although I honestly believe that the hawks will win one and maybe even two games against the Celtics)

I'd really like to see the Hawks make the playoffs, first round loss or not. Will be nice to see Josh Smith on the big stage finally, and they can give Boston at least a decent fight as opposed to Indiana or Jersey. And I've heard enough about the Bulls technically not eliminated, their season cannot end soon enough.

It'll end with their next loss or the next Hawks/Pacers/Nets win. :( Such a huge disappointment.

Damn, alf... if it makes you feel any better, I didn't see that coming, either... not with you having ten guys playing on Sunday and me having three (four after I dropped Evans to get Watson).

And you swept me during the regular season, too; guess it goes to show you only have to win once...

When healthy, the Raptors have had their number. In head to head, Bosh owned Howard this season. And, plus, I'd rather face the untested Magic than LeBron, the Pistons or the Celtics.

How are the Magic any less tested than the Raptors? They both made the playoffs last year... At least the Magic have two key players (Turkoglu, Lewis) and a handful of role players on their team that have actually won a playoff series. I don't know if anybody on the Raptors other than Nesterovic has ever seen the second round.

I wouldn't say less tested. I would say the worse of the group. They depend on the 3 point shot almost completely and don't play defense like the Pistons, Celtics and they don't have Lebron James.

I honestly think if the Hawks caught them in the first round they would go to the second round (that is the only series...well..that and a Wizards series that has no possibility of happening...that i think the Hawks would win in the East).

The Raptors should want to play Orlando because they play their style of basketball, only Toronto is more equipped in the playoffs with Boshs ability to score in the half court and Fords ability to break down a defense.

I didn't say their less tested than the Raptors but they sure as hell are less playoff tested than the Cavs, Celtics or Pistons. And, unlike the other 3, the Raptors have been consistently strong against Orlando and match up well against them, particularily at the point where no one on the Magic is in the same stratosphere as Ford or Calderon.

Remember when Bosh was all googly eyed over how much faster the playoff pace was? That was funny. In other words, Magic should be able to beat Raptors in a 7 game series, but it could really go either way. Why argue though, those two are just battling to get eliminated by Detroit or Boston.

The reason why the Magic shoot so many threes is the same reason why they did so in the early-to-mid 90s. Dwight Howard is a beast down low, and so most teams collapse on him the moment he gets the ball on the block, thus leaving Turkoglu and Lewis open on the perimeter. I wish that Lewis would take the ball to the hole more, that only makes his outside game more effective. Turkoglu is doing both fairly well.

TJ Ford is a handful when he's healthy, and we all know about Chris Bosh. It would be one hell of a series.

And yes, whomever comes out of that war is going to get beat by the Pistons or Celtics.

I want the Celtics to win so badly. I just keep getting this bad feeling they're going to lose to the Pistons. It just feels like they're the team with all the hype that the Pistons usually take down.

I'm going to laugh so hard when Atlanta somehow beats Boston in seven games. I just have a feeling that finally getting to play in the postseason is going to spur Josh Smith to put together some of the most absurd/brilliant stat lines in the history of the NBA.

As much as I would love to see it happen, the Hawks will be lucky to win one game against the Celtics. Sorry, but I'm not seeing the cause for optimism here. Same goes for the Pacers or Nets with their slim chances.

the thing is, Josh smith has a history of playing incredibly against Kevin garnett.

Joe Johnson is great against Ray Allen, although he can't really stop him either.

Mike Bibby i stough off screens, but he won't be able to stick with rondo off the dribble.

Al Horford will murderlate Kedrick Perkins.

So whats the problem? Paul Pierce will go ape shit on the Hawks. No one can stop him, he has quick hands which gives Marvin Williams problems. There will be the difference. I think that it will go 5-6 games suprisingly but I don't see the Hawks pulling this out.

Oh yeah. And the worse coach in the history of the NBA is on the Hawks bench. If he wasn't completely retarded, Acie Law, Salim Stoudimire, Zaza Pachulia and Jeremy Richardson would play a part in the series. But since he is retarded, they won't.

Man the Hawks Pacers game.

Horrible reffing, much more horrible coaching from Mike woodson.

Dunleavy for Most Improved.

I'd like to think this game will give us a boost to steal the last spot, but the Hawks still have games with the Knicks and Heat.

And the Bulls are officially out of playoff contention, at the hands of the Miami Heat.

Oh, the irony.
