WWE Smackdown (6/13/2008)

On Friday, SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero will play witness as Batista will officially sign a contract for the Night of Champions World Heavyweight Championship Match between him and Edge. What will The Animal have to say to Vickie with just over two weeks to go until he fights for the gold?

Batista has a rocky road ahead of him, with Guerrero in the driver’s seat. The GM and Edge have already rid WWE of Undertaker and will stop at nothing to keep the gold around the Rated-R Superstar’s waist. With their impending July 11 nuptials and the upcoming WWE Draft, can Vickie, Edge and “The Family” keep the Ultimate Opportunist at the top?

Not to be outdone by Raw, Guerrero made another big announcement last week on SmackDown – the creation of the new Divas Championship. In a Golden Dreams Match, Natalya became the first Diva to qualify for the new SmackDown title. What Diva will be selected to compete against her for the title?

Big Show is scheduled to take on ECW Champion Kane at Night of Champions for the gold, but because of the facial injury he suffered at One Night Stand, he has not been medically cleared to wrestle since. How will three weeks of being inactive affect this championship match? Also, Mark Henry has stepped forward to question the World’s Largest Athlete’s worthiness of becoming champion. Will the World’s Strongest Man continue to be a thorn in the side of Big Show?

Don’t miss Friday Night SmackDown at 8/7 CT only on The CW Network.

No match listing this time...I've got stuff to do.

Foley is horrid as an announcer, and he doesn't have the voice for it either. I've said it a million times but JBL is much more valuable as a color commentator - I'd pay him double his wrestling salary just to get him back in the booth. As a wrestler on Raw he is just another upper card heel, and unless it's a brawl he'd can't really have a good match. He really added to the show as color commentator and really helped SD get it's wrestlers over - even when they were dealt a weak hand due to Raw being the flagship.

Long Island accent.

I was listening to yesterday's Dave and Bryan show during the match and generally not paying attention, but Punk vs. MVP seemed to be pretty long. Good stuff?

I just watched for MVP-Punk and I thought it was tremendous improvement over their ECW match earlier this year. It felt like a PPV match being given away on free tv aside from the finish. I didn't mind Foley in this match. I've noticed he mails in the tv show but puts forth an effort on PPV. I think he's genuinely not interested in commentating but only took the job out of some sense of obligation. It's still better then Coach.

It seems like I'm the only one who's still really enjoying Mick Foley on commentary. I find him really funny. Plus, I liked the fact that on this week's show he made reference to Cole's annoying repetitiveness.

In regards to Edge, I loved how he ran to vickie like a baby after CM Punk's threat. He plays the "cowardly heel" so well.
