The Angle After Flair's Retirement

Recommended Posts

Okay, we discussed how great the HBK/Batista angle was, and it is not technically over in my opinion, just on the backburner for a bit. Jericho got involved, and now he and HBK are feuding. Last night, Flair showed up; Triple H got involved due to his ties to Shawn and Ric; Vince interjected himself; and Lance Cade ran in at the end. Triple H is feuding with Cena, and Cena was attacked at the end of the show. Cade recently turned on Murdoch, and while I don't see him getting involved in this, it certainly wouldn't be hard to do.

This is the first time in what seems like forever that we have a good angle that keeps involving more and more people and has a big effect on the roster as a whole. I have always felt that storylines like that were something that needed to be done to get casual fans to become hooked. This could go in so many directions right now, it's not funny.

Here is who we have so far:

Ric Flair

Batista

Shawn Michaels

Chris Jericho

Triple H

John Cena

Lance Cade

Vince McMahon

Don't forget that they were setting up Orton and Batista to either team up or feud before Orton broke his collar bone. I imagine that he was going to be a part of this in a big way due to his remarks about Flair and Triple H holding them back. Several people in the Raw thread remarked that Cade was a student of HBK, and they could get that aspect of the angle going. So far, I like what I am seeing, and I hope this continues to branch off. What do you think?

That is probably what they will do next week, in fact. They tend to over-use that angle, and I hope they don't go that route. I would prefer they stop relying on past booking trends, especially with this angle. They could use next week to get someone else involved, or just do a singles match as the ME. I hate the "How will they get along?" tag team.

All I think about when I see Londrick is them helping HHH out months ago and getting pedigreed for the cheek of helping him.

Ugh... don't remind me.

I don't know who it was, but someone had an awesome signature about HHH's burial tour since his return.

I'm as big a London and Kendrick fan as the next guy, but seriously, what have they done since they came over from SmackDown?

I think that it was HTQ.

So Batista/Jericho/Cade vs HBK/HHH/Cena w/Flair? It could be interesting, but they'll have to let Cade at least get a tag pinfall somewhere or he'll just be this years version of the Spirit Squad.

That signature was stupid.

Anyway, Meltz seems to think Flair was just an unplanned desperation move to lead to nothing, but that's just his feeling. Hopefully this goes somewhere.

Put Batista in the middle of that...and it'll be a fun summer of TV. Doubtful (but maybe a slight bit promising) that it could top the spring/summer/fall of 98 though. Orton can come in just when things really get to the point of exploding and add that new element on the heel side and make it seem as though the face side is really outnumbered and desperate.

I have a good feeling that that stable starts at the PPV on Sunday. I would like to see them get involved.

I wouldn't be surprised if Orton returned and brought back a new version of Evolution with him, Batista, Rhodes, and Ted Debiase Jr. That'd be a great stable.

This sounds fun and all, but... what are the chances all of these people will be on the same show after the big bad draft? WWE would rather split all this up and start lots of smaller, less entertaining feuds that will keep us hanging on by a string rather than gripping at it with all our might.

Batista might be coming over to Raw with the draft. I am sure some of these people will not be on the same show, but I don't think they would split everyone up. Triple H and HBK will definitely be on Raw, and you would have to figure that they wouldn't have Jericho take Shawn out and then immediately split them up. Flair and Vince can be on whatever shows they want. That is the core of this group. It doesn't matter if Cena goes to Smackdown, becuase he is involved soley because he is feuding with Triple H at the moment. If Cade goes somewhere else, they can just throw someone else in that role.

Replace Triple H with the returning Randy Orton (not in the same role, obviously), and I will wear a big smile on my face if this wide-range angle continues for a few months. Give Cena a huge uphill battle with HBK by his side and Flair somewhere in the mix as a "powers that be" role.
