New Joss Whedon Musical, Starrring Doogie Howser

I know we have a billion Firefly and Buffy fans here, so I'm surprised it hasn't been discussed yet. Whedon has developed a short supervillian musical starring Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillon. You can watch the acts, streaming, over at drhorrible.com.

Act 1 was pretty good. The quality is about the same as the old Buffy Musical, so it's a pretty silly ride. Who else has seen it so far? The letter from Bad Horse was great.

Well, can't say I was expecting that ending. Fantastic. "The second time you get to do the weird stuff", Fake Thomas Jefferson, BAD HORSE. I'm just sad we didn't get a final Bad Horse song.

Yeah, I actually rolled my eyes at the near-end twist because it's what Joss Whedon does in everything he writes. Everything else in the third act was great, though, especially the chorus of groupies and Fake Thomas Jefferson.

I wouldn't have minded it so much if

the general situation weren't almost EXACTLY the same way Tara died on

Buffy. Just because Joss is fond of killing people off (and really, he gets too much shit for this, practically every television show of that type does it too), it doesn't make it okay to so blatantly recreate a pretty specific plot twist he's done before.

 

Other than that, it's fucking awesome. "...the hammer is my penis." Gold.
