WWE Smackdown (7/25/2008)

Friday on SmackDown, six Superstars will compete in the Biggest Blockbuster of the Summer Battle Royal, with the winner facing Triple H at SummerSlam for the WWE Championship. The Over-the-Top Rope Challenge pits Big Show vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Mr. Kennedy vs. The Great Khali vs. Montel Vontavious Porter vs. Umaga. After the melee, which Superstar will be left standing with the chance at gold?

WWE Champion Triple H retained his gold at The Great American Bash, keeping Edge at bay with an unexpected assist from the Rated-R Superstar’s scorned bride, Vickie Guerrero – who received a spear from the Ultimate Opportunist after she got entangled with wedding planner Alicia Fox.

After Edge was caught lip-locked with Fox on video during his wedding reception, courtesy of The Game, Guerrero undoubtedly will look to earn retribution against her husband to salvage her good name. But Guerrero may also seek revenge on the man who made her happiest day a living hell – the WWE Champion.

Will SmackDown’s scorned General Manager make life a living hell for the Ultimate Opportunist? Is Triple H safe from her wrath, even after defeating the Rated-R Superstar? Will Edge find a way to get back in the good graces of his not-so-blushing bride? And how will “The Family” react to Edge’s infidelity? Will his best man, Chavo Guerrero, stand by and watch as the Guerrero name is tarnished?

Two members of “The Family,” Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder, achieved what their friend Edge could not – capturing gold. In a Fatal Four Way Match, Hawkins & Ryder managed to win the WWE Tag Team Championship, giving them their first reign atop the tag ranks in WWE. Will Hawkins & Ryder stay on top of the world?

Another SmackDown Superstar who brought gold back to Friday night was Shelton Benjamin. The Gold Standard defeated Matt Hardy to become the new United States Champion, winning his first championship in over two years. Can Benjamin capitalize on his success and keep the gold around his waist? Or will someone step up, looking to steal the golden dreams of Benjamin?

Also, Michelle McCool became the first-ever Divas Champion at The Great American Bash, outlasting Natalya and forcing the red-headed powerhouse to tap out. Having made history by winning the gold, can McCool etch her name even deeper into WWE’s annals by keeping the Sexiest Women on Television from taking her title?

Jimmy Wang Yang vs. Shelton Benjamin

Festus vs. Curt Hawkins

Vladimir Kozlov vs. Stevie Richards.

Umaga vs. MVP vs. Big Show vs. Jeff Hardy vs. The Great Khali vs. Mr. Kennedy in a battle royal

Maryse vs. Michelle McCool

Shannon Moore vs. Brian Kendrick

Ha, I usually don't like this type of stuff, but I'm loving this one.

Hardy just totally put down MVP, heh.

It's like 1997 again

All the character wresters got their real life shit put out there

but Jeff should've said more about MVP being an ex-con

While I didn't totally hate that segment, I don't really get the point of it. I mean, why would MVP even call Jeff out? Just to psyche him out for the match later? If that's the case, why not choose a tougher opponent, like the Big Show or somebody to psyche out.

Other then maybe the Matt connection, I don't see why he called Jeff out.

Can't really punk out anyone else in the match.

Jeff isn't ready for the main event yet

He should have won the battle royal.

EDIT: I say that after seeing the final two.

HHH has the strap still and I don't see him dropping it until Survivor Series at the earliest.

I didn't say he would drop it to Jeff, just that Jeff would be the one getting the shot.

I wonder if WWE is going to bring up that R-Truth was already in the WWE/F.

The way that promo went, they're making it seem like he's fresh out of jail.

I guess that's why Jeff didn't say anything about MVP being in jail.

He had one at the Rumble then he fucked up. Getting in a title match with HHH will just push him down the card because it's no where else for him to go.

Yeah, it looks like Truth is going to use MVP's legit background. Then again they tried to go this route with Shelton Benjamin once as well. Still not feeling the name though. The Black Pope has to be wondering who he pissed off.

THE Brian Kendrick doesn't fit with Ezekiel - it was just a bad pairing. That jacket he wears is a heat magnet though, it being so damn cheesy. Kendrick might look a bit like a young Pillman, but he doesn't have the character to really make that comparison work. Also this heel turn would have been so much better if he actually turned on London rather than being split with the draft and all off a sudden he's supposed to be some big prick heel because Foley tells us he is.

HHH didn't need a top opponent for Summer Slam considering he won't be the ME, and likely won't even be second last on the card. Khali is a good place holder.

I would have sworn JR made Kendrick/Pillman comparisons last week.

JR kept saying Kendrick was like HBK during the attitude era.

Don't know about the rest of you but I thought vickie was pretty damn awesome there at the end...that "gotchya/evil" laugh and look she gave him at the end was great. Not because it sounded evil per se but it was a great pissed off psycho woman laugh

I dunno, Umaga or someone would be a better placeholder feud since it might at least be an okay match. Though really I can't recall a good one HHH and Umaga had on Raw. I think what we'll see in this HHH/Khali match is that HHH isn't UT or even Cena when it comes to getting something out of Khali. Is a major PPV like SS the time to do a nothing placeholder feud? Maybe if it is ultra stacked. They've already put in the HIAC, hopefully Raw will have some fun gimmick main event with all the various contenders (either a 2nd HIAC or an EC match).
