Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2008 Personally, I think it was fairly entertaining during Crash's first go-round leading up to the WM2000 hardcore battle royal. Eventually it just got stupid until it was mercy killed during the great title unification of ought 3, but thinking back it wasn't a total wash.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2008 Actually the belt was retired in Aug./Sept. 2002 when RVD unified it with the IC and Euro titles. That match with Dreamer was really good stuff too, probably Dreamer's high point in WWE. The 24/7 stuff was really fun for a while but it eventually became a comedy belt. Boxer 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2008 RVD to me was the guy that solidified that belt when he won it. It had a small chance of revival if all the former ECW guys would feud for it during the invasion but we all know what happened there. The 2000 run for the title was, meh. I liked it when there were longer title runs, like RVD's.
Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2008 24/7 was a good angle building up to the Hardcore Battle Royal at Wrestlemania 2000. It really should have been dropped after that because the entire point of the angle was to build to that match and there was nowhere to go with it afterwards. King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2008 I'm a huge 24/7 mark. It basically made Crash's career, Steve Blackman's career and it gave something for guys at the lower end of the roster something to do (like The Posse!), all at once, that was at least entertaining. The match in the amusement park with Crash and The Headbangers was a high point. Basically everything with Crash, aside from the Backlash 2000 match, was good to great for what it was, filler. Then they hit a real low-point with Brisco and Patterson, or more specifically the KOTR match, the stuff leading up to it wasn't that bad. After that, they had Blackman and Raven hold it which helped to re-establish it. Raven I guess is the forgotten man behind Blackman and Crash, despite I assume being the guy with the most reigns. Raven/Kane/Big Show, another high-point. Big Show's reign took the belt to a higher level yet and Rhyno's run kept it up there. I guess Rhyno/Raven is the true greatest match of the era. By the Invasion angle it was involved in some pretty big things with some pretty big names, like Van Dam, Hardy, Jericho, Undertaker. I guess it was into 2002 and Bradshaw's reign where it just tailed off into nothing. Until then it more often than not served a purpose. Sure it was a 'joke belt' a lot of the time, but it gave people at the bottom of the care something to do, joke or not, unlike nowadays.

Aye, I knew which match it was, I just had the years mixed up.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2008 Raven/Rhino from Backlash 2001 is a forgotten classic. Just a great hardcore brawl with some innovative spots. RVD's run with it was undoubtedly the high point of the title. He's the main guy who really seemed to care about having the belt.
haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2008 Did WWE ever have a TV reason to explain why Edge stopped carrying-around the Hardcore title that Foley gave him in 2006? Anyways, I REALLY enjoyed the Hardcore title. Probably more than someone should. I liked how WWE put the effort forward to have custom versions made for Bradshaw and Tommy Dreamer. Even though Bradshaw's just looked like the women's title with a bull's head sticking out the front, and Dreamer's was a NYC license plate on a strap, it was still unique. I miss the hell out of that belt. I remember some BS rumor that started going around in 2001 ( I think), after Rhyno won the title, that he was going to get an extended run, to try to give the belt some crediblity, but he lost it to who I believe was Chris Jericho the night after he won.
