EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted September 22, 2008 My question is, when has a player ever left a game in that manner, for that purpose? I have never seen it before in my life watching baseball. And what makes Jeter so damn important? This attitude will come back to bite them in the ass when they resign him and let him play shortstop into his 40s. There never has been a situation quite like Yankee Fucking Stadium closing, so you're right, no one has ever come out for that purpose, but that purpose has never been an issue. The fans at the Stadium obviously wanted it to, that applause was enourmous, so lay off him. Derek Jeter is one of the most important Yankees ever, let him have this. Let the Yankee fans have it. Tiger Stadium?
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted September 22, 2008 No, there's no comparison of Yankee Stadium to Tiger Stadium. Plus, who would get the curtain call at the last game at Tiger Stadium- Damion Easiley?
naiwf 0 Report post Posted September 22, 2008 My question is, when has a player ever left a game in that manner, for that purpose? It's like in basketball when they call a timeout to let a player soak in the applause. They usually do that if a guy is retiring or it's the final game of the playoffs and your team isn't going to win the series/championship. I've never seen that happen because they're moving to another arena. If Jeter's retiring tomorrow morning then they can gave him a 20 minute standing ovation and that's understandable. Other than that, who gives a shit that Jeter has played his last home game a block or so away from where he'll play his next one?
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted September 22, 2008 No, there's no comparison to Yankee Stadium to Tiger Stadium. Plus, who would get the curtain call at the last game at Tiger Stadium- Damion Easiley? Why not? Tiger Stadium had Cobb, Kaline, Crawford. Several World Series and All Star games. Plus it wasn't completely rebuilt in the 1970s, making all of its standing facilities legitimate.

The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted September 22, 2008 I used "this week" because I'm confident that the Mets will choke their way out of the playoffs again.
Smartly Pretty 0 Report post Posted September 22, 2008 You have to also remember that The (football) Giants played there for quite some time (The Greatest Game Ever Played was a Yankee Stadium event), it was the site of the "win one for the Gipper" Notre Dame-Army game, Tiger Stadium was wonderful, but it wasn't Yankee Stadium. Plus it wasn't completely rebuilt in the 1970s, making all of its standing facilities legitimate. Because Yankee Stadium had a lot more World Series and legendary players. Again, really no comparison. Plus, NYC isn't letting Yankee Stadium rot away like Detroit is. Also, a lot of what Smartly Pretty said. I do agree that it is annoying that people conveniently forget that Yankee Stadium was rebuilt in the 70s. Weird how Turner Field is probably one of the oldest NL stadiums. The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted September 22, 2008 Only the Cubs, Dodgers, Marlins and Rockies play in an older NL park than Turner Field

And Tiger Stadium hosted the Detroit Lions for 36 years as well. In many ways, Yankee Stadium could not compare to Tiger Stadium.
Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted September 22, 2008 When the Tigers win 26 titles and Placido Polanco wins 4 championships then you can have that curtain call otherwise STFU. There isn't a comparable event that's ever taken place.

Are you intentionally spelling "Yankees" incorrectly as some type of inside joke and, if you are, what's the joke? I like jokes.
RepoMan 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2008 I hate the Yankees, but I didn't find the hype for this to be all that bad considering all the history that happened there and that it's in the US media Mecca. I enjoyed that it played second fiddle to the Cowboys-Packers on network TV compared to a meaningless game on cable.
