Einstein Bros. Bagels

Decent bagels & spreads, some OK lunch sandwiches. Anything with "Spicy" or "Southwestern" in the name tends to be very spicy, yeah, but almost completely devoid of flavor. Haven't tried their regular coffee, but they make a good vanilla latte.

(That's another thing that I hate about this goddamned place: No good bagelry. We had a Bruegger's in Asheville, plus this New York-style place where they had these reasonably-priced giant sandwiches. So good. Perfect hangover food. Bruegger's always had these extremely attractive girls of questionable legal status making the bagels, too. I always got the Santa Fe Turkey. And it came with a pickle spear! Fuck Athens, man. I haven't had a decent bagel in a year because of this shithole.)

You would think so, but no. I'll grudgingly admit that there is one place. Zim's or something. I ordered a Russian bagel or some such thing there and ended up paying $8 for the thing. Didn't even come with a pickle spear. Ridiculous. We never ended up going back.

Eight fuckin dollars? Also, any bread-like product should come with a pickle spear.

 

I also like the name "Einstein Bros." Hercules Q. Rockerfeller's Tire & Lube is probably up the street.

I suggested that the spicier items aren't any good, but I do like their jalapeno salsa shmear. It's just that their eggs are very bland, so any egg-based sandwich or wrap tends to be overpowered by any even slightly strong flavor. Just a spicy spread on a bagel works fine.

 

They have a smoked salmon shmear that's really thick and gummy. I don't like that one.

I remember Einstein Brothers as being pretty good when I lived in Florida, but I haven't seen their stores since then. For a chain, it's not too bad, but still way behind the quality of a really good deli. We have a few of those here, along with a lot of bakeries that also make great bagels yet due to the convenience factor while I'm at school, I sometimes find myself eating Noah's more than I'd like to. Inc was definitely right about students liking bagels- it's cheap, filling, and can be modified to suit a variety of things. There's this particularly revolting thing that I can't stop ordering when I go to Noah's which is their smoked lox and chive egg mit- yes sir, that's salmon, egg, cheese, chives, butter all nuked up and melted on a toasty awful bagel.

 

Yeah I am going to stick to doing the cream cheese thing. Also, bagels go great with coffee.

They have an Einstiens on campus at Kent State. I ate their all the time because I could pay with the meal plan. The Jalepino cream chesse owns, good coffee.

It's really, really damn good. If you have access to fresh salmon, you can also make gravlax, which is Swedish lox pretty much.

Guys, I think I'm sick of Einstein Bros. The only one in town is very close to my apartment, so I almost always stop by there on my way to work. Poop on making my own breakfast.

 

But yeah, I eat there too much. Blah.

I've never been a huge fan of Einstein Bros. I got spoiled on the local place in Charlottesville, which kettle cooks their bagels and is obscenely cheap. There's a deli right by my office that does a mean sausage, egg, and cheddar bagel, but the pre-packaged bagel is definitely the least impressive part of it.

there's an einstein bros. right across the street from my house. food is okayish, but i try to stay away from it because the service is always terrible. i also don't like the fact that you can't butter your own bagel, you have to let them do it for you (and essentially drown the whole thing in grease). their coffee is a little too acidic for my taste.

 

i eat way too many bagels, but they're all from panera. they're more like dinner rolls than bagels but i don't really mind. the asiago ones are especially good. my typical weekday lunch is two asiago bagels and coffee.

Since I'm never going to stop eating there no matter how much I fool myself into thinking otherwise, my latest Einstein Bros. fave is the asiago bagel dog.
