There's some good reggae like Jimmy Cliff and some Wailers, but sometimes it gets too one-track for me. I saw Steel Pulse live one time, and it was just a bunch of old Jamaican fuckers with ultra-long dreds and not a single coherent thought.

It sounds funny (or doesn't), but I am always down to listen to the select reggae tracks that Bad Brains gave us. Other than that, though... gimme a fair share of marijuana and I'm probably fine with whatever you put on at the time... Any other time, nah. Not really interested.

Observation; I don't think I've seen anybody here on TSM proclaim themselves to be a reggae fan. Hatred of reggae is the common thread that the music snobs and slobs seem to have here. Like pbone, I really enjoy Jimmy Cliff and some Wailers as well as Toots and The Maytals but the rest of the genre, I could take or leave.

Most straight up roots reggae is kinda meh, but Dub and Dancehall and every sub-genre that those two spawned are hot fucking fire. If you're not down with Lee "Scratch" Perry I don't want anything to do with you.

I was always pretty indifferent to reggae, and went on vacation to Jamaica a couple years back. I didn't have a revelation or anything and start to love it, but I did learn something about the genre. The more popular stuff and bands/styles that adopt reggae elements are much better than the underground and local musicians down there.
