2GOLD Posted January 4, 2009 Report Posted January 4, 2009 For a movie that opened average at best, "Yes Man" has held up surprisingly well. It wouldn't be a hit for Carrey but it's no longer the bust it was looking it would be. What I don't understand is how did BOLT cost 150 million dollars to make? How did Benjamin Button? I'm guessing actor fees and special effects which makes it make a little sense. But BOLT? Who the hell got the huge payday for that film?
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin Posted January 4, 2009 Report Posted January 4, 2009 Valkyrie is doing much better than anyone expected which I'm happy to see since it's a great movie.

bob_barron Posted January 4, 2009 Author Report Posted January 4, 2009 What I don't understand is how did BOLT cost 150 million dollars to make? CGI films are expensive, and Disney spares no expense. The 3-D didn't help either. Plus, I'm sure Travolta and Cyrus aren't cheap. How did Benjamin Button? I'm guessing actor fees and special effects which makes it make a little sense. But BOLT? Who the hell got the huge payday for that film? That was all the special effects.
Youth N Asia Posted January 4, 2009 Report Posted January 4, 2009 did anything new open this week...at all?
Youth N Asia Posted January 4, 2009 Report Posted January 4, 2009 Looks like word of mouth killed The Spirit off
bob_barron Posted January 4, 2009 Author Report Posted January 4, 2009 No. Traditionally Hollywood takes the first weekend of the year off. Defiance and Good did open in limited release to qualify for the Oscars.
Ravenbomb Posted January 4, 2009 Report Posted January 4, 2009 Oh, wow, the top 7 are exactly the same.
The Niggardly King Posted January 4, 2009 Report Posted January 4, 2009 Does anything else come out when Kevin James fat mall cop movie come out? I'm worried that'll be #1... I've seen that thing advertised all over the place.
Gary Floyd Posted January 4, 2009 Report Posted January 4, 2009 Looks like word of mouth killed The Spirit off I've heard that Lionsgate is hoping that My Bloody Valentine 3D is a hit of some sorts, since they haven't been doing too well Box Office wise.
bob_barron Posted January 4, 2009 Author Report Posted January 4, 2009 Does anything else come out when Kevin James fat mall cop movie come out? I'm worried that'll be #1... I've seen that thing advertised all over the place. The BIG movie will be #1 that weekend.
Youth N Asia Posted January 4, 2009 Report Posted January 4, 2009 I don't know about Mall Cop. Jame's isn't a boxoffice draw, I guess this movie will decide if he gets leading roles from here on out or not
fazzle Posted January 4, 2009 Report Posted January 4, 2009 No. Traditionally Hollywood takes the first weekend of the year off. Defiance and Good did open in limited release to qualify for the Oscars. Looking at BOM though, this appears to be the first time in 5 years that they've done that.

bob_barron Posted January 5, 2009 Author Report Posted January 5, 2009 MLK Weekend, movie about a famous black guy. Come on.
RepoMan Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 The BIG movie will be #1 that weekend. You made we worried that they remade Big for a second until I figured out what you were talking about.
Gary Floyd Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 Yeah, but what if it was a movie with the premise of "Big", but only with someone playing Biggie?
fazzle Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 Some 12 year old boy goes to a coin operated fortune teller/wishing machine, and then wakes up the next morning with bullet holes in his chest?

KingPK Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 The year is only 5 days old and we already have a leader in the clubhouse for 2009 Post of the Year.
