Celtic Guardian Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 According to pwi you can add referee Jimmy Korderas to the list of those canned. Korderas had been with the company since 1987... This day, there are no lifers.
The Niggardly King Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 I don't see too many more cuts coming with the new show WWE's getting. Maybe a couple of development guys and one or two more known names.

Vampiro69 Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 Dammit not Val Venis! Hopefully he can go to TNA and get a get a good run over there.
RedJed Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 Ok, so they released Venis, who was a perennial "lifer" of sorts. I'm holding hope that Hardcore Holly gets the ax then, as if Venis can be dumped, so should he. I would love nothing more than to never see another Holly match ever again. I'm missing why they even hired D-Lo back in the first place, if they just are giving him the ax this casually. He was a road agent for TNA before this, so I could see him going back there, alongside a spot on the roster as well. He might make a decent addition to the main babyface Front Line faction.
King Kamala Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 Wow---I'm one of the dopes who thought Val Venis was a lifer. Then again- I thought Scotty 2 Hotty and Al Snow were lifers before their releases. A bit sad to see him go but hopefully he'll get one more solid run somewhere.
Fartsauce Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 I got beat to the NOT VAL VENIS by about a half hour.
Prophet of Mike Zagurski Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 Val Venis got fired. Truly the WWE is disbanding or the end is rear. I'm not sure if you meant to do this or not. I meant end is near. Moving on...
PILLS! PILLS! PILLS! Posted January 10, 2009 Author Report Posted January 10, 2009 PWI reported that Tim White was let go. I didn't realize that he was still working for the company after his injury. If anybody was a potential lifer, it was him, as he's been an employee since the eighties.

DrVenkman PhD Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 WWE had security guards (one person told me armed guards, but I haven't been able to doublecheck that) escorting fired employees off the company's Stamford, CT property. Wow Scherer, WWE treated office employees LIKE EVERY OTHER GOD DAMNED OFFICE BUILDING IN NORTH AMERICA. Do you have other hot scoops, or are those in the Elite section? I hope Kung Fu Naki is safe. He has to have a huge match at Mania 25 because it's in Texas, ya know.
Hunter's Torn Quad Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Kevin Thorn and Tim White are gone.
Floridian Cool Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 I only wish that they would cut enough dead weight to eliminate SD! and "ECW"...let TNA get oversaturated with mediocrity. Looking at the rosters, I would pink slip: Haas, Candice, Ziggler, Duggan, Holly, Noble, JTG, Kane, Layla, Simmons, Shad, Maryse, Hawkins, Eve, Festus, Helms, Jesse, Wang Yang, Roberts, Ezekiel, Funaki, Maria, McCool, Nikki Bella, R-Truth, Ranjin Singh, Braddock, Goldman, Khali, Victoria, Vickie Guerrero, Zack Ryder, Boogeyman, Chavo, Alicia Fox, DJ Gabriel, Gavin Spears, Burchill, Katie Lea, Jack Swagger, Tiffany, Dreamer, Teddy Long, Atlas and Tony Chimel. Maybe Brian Kendrick...especially since the loss of Paul London meant nothing to the state of the fed. Unless Morrison/Miz were allowed to do something like their .com show on TV, I'd lose them, too.
DrVenkman PhD Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 I swear I thought Kevin Thorn was released 6 months ago. I will be legitimately sad if this is the end for Duggan. I know people are always calling for the old man's release... but come on, Sad Jim Duggan!
Lt. Al Giardello Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 I only wish that they would cut enough fat to eliminate SD! and "ECW"...let TNA get oversaturated with mediocrity. You're straight trippin. Alot of potential on that list you're releasing.

Why the hell would WWE purposely release marketable talent with the express purpose of cancelling two TV shows which they earn TV licencing rights on? Are you insane?
Thanks for the Fish Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Kevin Thorn was going to be brought up as one of the minions of the unnamed Hade Vansen character that was dropped after that one promo that aired. Vansen, Thorn and developmental Black Pain were all told they were getting the call-up only to be told a week later than plans have changed. Thorn was originally pegged to be the red neck tag partner of Lance Cade before Trevor Murdoch snagged the role. Thorn is another one where they tried too many gimmicks to get him over that he was unbelievable as a character anymore.
Chazz Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 I will be legitimately sad if this is the end for Duggan. I know people are always calling for the old man's release... but come on, Sad Jim Duggan! Plus we will have never found out what Cryme Time did with him!
DrVenkman PhD Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Floridian Cool I see you preparing a response, but be aware I've already labelled you a WWE Folder nutbar. "I want WWE to cut all these people and cancel SD / ECW. I also haven't watched Raw in 1.5 years and it's been awful for 10 years". What is your goal here?
DrVenkman PhD Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 I will be legitimately sad if this is the end for Duggan. Floridian Cool Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Please, all I did was trim the fat. At least I let worthless but solid hands like Matt Hardy and Matt Striker stay. Potential is nice to chat about, but the problem is that it can never come to fruition and it doesn't equal TV ratings or overpriced $750 WrestleMania ringside tickets until it does. I didn't mention one name - with the possible exception of Kane - where they couldn't make more money by a) cutting and giving their valuable TV time to a wrestler that is actually marketable or b) hiring a new talent with some actual charisma and in-ring ability and giving them a decent gimmick. R-Truth is never going to draw a dime, their divas are a dime a dozen, Kung Fu Naki and Wang Yang are cute to you smarks but no one cares, and I consider myself a casual fan but haven't heard of half of the newer names on that list outside of Jack Swagger. Not a very good case for their marketability. Two questions: who the hell is Gavin Spears, and who gave Goldman a job in the WWE?
RedJed Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Kevin Fertig held a job with WWE way way WAY longer than he should have anyway. Every gimmick he had was mediocre, or more particularly, the way he played each gimmick was mediocre. Plus I can't recall him having one single match that jumped out at me as impressive. That is too bad about Tim White though, but I can see the reasoning if he's really not doing that much for the company anymore.

Just because you clearly don't watch the show, and thus are unfamiliar with the names, doesn't mean they should be released. Cutting both ECW and Smackdown brands out completely (and doing what exactly with those timeslots? Don't you get the company actually, ya know, makes money from having more than one brand?) is totally insane. No way to slice it otherwise. Don't even try. And I totally disagree that Truth can't draw at all. Will be ever be a main eventer? Doubtful, but he still will be a guy people enjoy to see and buy merchandise of his from the company.
DrVenkman PhD Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 R-Truth and Cryme Tyme and other popular midcarders with good characters can sell shirts and necklaces and other trinkets to kids. That's what I meant by marketable. That's the last I'll say on it though since this is almost becoming "Is John Cena actually over?" Part 2.
Floridian Cool Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Cutting both ECW and Smackdown brands out completely (and doing what exactly with those timeslots? Do what they did from '99-'02...put good wrestlers on those shows.
