Let's talk this past weekend...

Recommended Posts

Right. I assume by now everybody's been somewhat clued in via PMs and e-mails and whatever other means about what happened on Friday. But we might as well air this all out in public so we're all on the same page.

---

Simply put, I over-reacted.

Aside from Alfdogg, I think I'm right in saying I'm the only one here who really uses the rest of the board regularly. But I don't profess to know much about board history. So when I logged on to see Alf banned and the mess going on in Site Feedback with Leena, my intitial reaction was "this could be bad". And since the only one of us who really knew what the fuck was going on was Alfdogg and he wasn't around at the time, I made the decision to start covering our asses incase things went downhill from there. So, I passed my over-reaction on to Zack.

I guess Zack had the same "cover our asses" attitude I did, or just sensed mine, because while I was scrambling around with other shit he quickly got into contact with the guy running The Pit about getting some board space should we need it. By the time the mess here at TSM got sorted out and everything got back to normal, Ron had very quickly bailed us out (potentially) and things had developed from there at a pretty impressive pace. So that's why there's an OAOAST folder at The Pit now.

Even though the whole thing turned out to be a 'joke', it kinda woke us up to a couple of things. One, we should probably be archiving shows anyway, which I've actually been doing for a couple of years with the most recent shows. We're now covered from 05-09 and I'll be working on 2004 when I next get spare time. Two, forums aren't as stable as you think. I think we all expect when we log on for TSM to come up no problems, it'll always be there. But it's not just the board drama that threatens that. There's always the potential for posts or posters to accidently get lost and on more than one ocassion the board's been down or under maintenance when I've come on to post something. So naturally it makes sense to have a second option if things go wrong. Yes, you could argue it never has before on a big scale so why worry, but the point is it could and a second base isn't neccessarily vital, but it'll be a help.

Turn out, we might have lucked out from the mess.

---

So.

Since it would be an extremely dick move to suddenly back out on The Pit after the guys running it were so helpful on Friday, we're going to try and push on. Zack is of the opinion that being there could be beneficial to us and I'm inclined to agree.

That doesn't mean we're suddenly leaving TSM! I've already told CWM (MWN now I guess?) that we understand the situation a little better now and now that it's blown over, we're not intending to cut and run at first possible opportunity, just keeping our options open.

I understand the majority of people are going to be comfortable here at TSM still. But let's face it, a change of scenery... well, 'adding of new scenery'... it might be good for everyone. For the time being at least, I think we should be trying to run operations at both boards as much as possible and see how things work out. Then we can evaluate a little later. Let's face it, it's not like we post much on the board during a week anyway, so cross-posting should hardly be a major hassle. I'm happy to take care of posting all the shows there once Patty's posted them here. At the moment everybody seems to be messing around with the OAO thread and that's fine. Once everything's been discussed and things settle down we can go from there.

Once we've given it a try, then we can all consider where we go from there.

Anyway, that's my take. The point of this thread is to see what everybody else thinks. So consider this a chance to sound off. If you've got any suggestions or reservations or anything then say so. If you want to waste 15 minutes of your life typing up something as long as this like I just have, feel free. It'd be good to get everybody's views on this, considering it just happened between me and Zack due to the speed of it. So, please, vent away.

I know Alf and Ed are already registered over there, if anyone else else needs it here's the link to The Pit. http://www.thepitforums.com/index.php

There was a lot of panic alright, and for the very reasons KC stated. He’s also spot on in regards to archiving the shows. As I mentioned to others, it’d be a kick to the nuts if one day we logged on and found that everything was lost for whatever reason. Sure few if any of us probably go back and read old shows like home videos…but still, it’s nice to have that history.

In regards to The Pit, I too believe it’d be a dick move to back out after they came through in a huge way. But I’m also very comfortable here at TSM and our history is tied to this place. That doesn’t mean I’m opposed to a move, but unless we knew for sure we’d be getting booted (and I don’t see how anybody could unless plans were to turn TSM into a couples board/support group/etc) I feel the idea KC outlined works best for us at least for now. Let’s use both boards and see how things go. One idea is to post our Spectacular events at TP first. They could be our NBC.

I guess recruitment is part of my concern with a move. And yes I realize we’ve hardly had any new members in years. My point is we probably have more of a chance to grab new recruits here, especially with our relax writing style. So to any first time visitors down here: the OAOAST is the place where there are no word limits, no picking the best match and you don’t even have to write anything wrestling related. Wanna write weekly segments about a boy and his dog? Then we’re the place for you!

That’s all I’ve got to say.

A longer post will follow (I'm at work) but as far as more people being involved, there's been a bunch of people using the OAO thread over there already. It could lead to something more down the line, who knows.

C/S

Its also decent at TSM because old heads know where to find us. Guys like PFL, SP, Dr.Z, etc, who drop in and out know where to come if they want to start writing again. I mean its as easy as just PMing someone here and saying "Hey, where's the OAOAST?" if we move, but still this is the easy way to find us. We did land a nice spot at The Pit bellow the wrestling folder, but how much traffic does that board even get, and will we get any backlash from such kick ass message board real estate? Its a lot nicer than being buried at the bottom of this board I know that.

Its a good idea to have things archived though, and its always nice to have a backup just in case something foul goes down. So that was a good look to get things arranged.

I'd rather not do an outright move, but I'm on the verge of murdering Zack in his sleep like I was last week. At first I figured there's no way we'll fit in there, this is a shitty shit idea and we're all fucked. I felt like an Iraqi at an ice rink. But the popularity of the OAO thread over there shocked me and warmed me up just a tiny little bit. But you still got people Lenna over there who don't want us there, and if she's the one who went batshit and hacked this board what's to stop her from going batshit and hacking The Pit if she/he/whatever gets pissed? Doesn't she have power over at that board also? Unless there's a huge legitimate threat to the OAOAST's existence, I think we're doing okay at TSM. I can buy the "not wanting to be a dick" reason to post some shows at The Pit. I guess we could post Syndicated there, I dunno.

That took me by surprise. Last thing we want to do is step on anybody's toes but nobody seems to be complaining. I still favor the 2 boards idea for now, then in 3-6 months we can revisit the whole thing.

Okay, last word on this.

This'll all get sorted out in due course. For now, forget about it and let's all just concentrate on writing the shows. We don't need this disrupting everything we're supposed to be doing.

Make sure to remember that the cross posting begins with HeldDOWN~! tonight.

Also, give a brother a hand in the introduction thread there, as we have a few interested people, some of whom have already put up specs.

Zack, you are president of Pit OAOAST, I am president of TSM OAOAST. I will keep the peace with you for now but do not presume you can tell my men to give a "brother" any appendage of their's. I won't be posting the show tonight because I have a photoshoot to get to, and when I return I have to sleep for 3 hours then get back up and do it again. So it'll be up Friday. Zack, inform your men they need to send something to me for the show.

EWC, the president of TSM OAOAST has read, with great personal insult, and discarded, with great pleasure, your private message. I do not suffer upity underlings, and you try my patience by daring to give me instruction. Family be damned this is code of the cobras, you will make sacrafices for the greater good, or you yourself will be sacrificed under my regime.
