Guest evenflowDDT Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 Hey, time for your friendly neighborhood HELLA EARLY Smackdown! thread. As usual, I don't read the spoilers, and request none be posted here, so here are "confirmed" non-spoiler events and matches. Kurt Angle vs. The Rock - Signed last week on Smackdown!, this I have little doubt that The Rock will go over and make Angle look like a chump (although since he'll also be doing that at the PPV, maybe Angle will get a cheating/fluke win?). Certainly the Undertaker will get involved some how, to tease at a "preview" for Vengeance's main event. Eric Bischoff causes trouble - In a shocking revelation, on RAW Vince McMahon declared Eric Bischoff to be the new General Manager of RAW. One of Bischoff's promises would be that he would make an appearance on Smackdown! to try and sign The Rock. He also mentioned that he'd try to sign HHH... maybe that will take the place of what would've been HHH's decision to join the nWo on Sunday? No Rey Rey - The Man AKA Rey Misterio Jr., premieres next week, coming off the PPV. What, Bischoff isn't enough of a shocking debut for you smarkity-smarks? Finally, the last non-spoiler event for this week is the revelation of the new Smackdown! GM. Bischoff was a shock to me and everyone else (well, it was probably spoiled somewhere, but still...), so who will Smackdown!'s GM be: Shane? Goldberg? Ultimate Warrior? Vince? Who knows? I'd love for it to be Shane since he did make a TV appearance on RAW to protest Bischoff's declaration as GM of RAW, but it's really anyone's guess. OK, it's not really, as there are certainly enough flaming threads about it to make it obvious by now... but this is a non-spoiler preview/thoughts post, so pretend you don't know when replying, please? Thanks
Guest CanadianChick Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 *checks watch* Your almost 24 hours early... Anyways, I want Shane McMahon to be the GM becasue of what happened on Raw with Shane saying that Eric will destroy the WWE>
Guest bob_barron Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 I want the GM to be Dusty or DDP- That would rule so much
Guest CanadianChick Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 With Dusty it would kind of be WCW Raw vs. WCW Smackdown!
Guest evenflowDDT Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 I think it'd be cool if DDP was the GM as well (although not as cool as Shane because of the possible storyline conflict they set up), but what's DDP up to right now? I remember in his interview on Confidential a while back him saying he wasn't "ready" for retirement... do you think he would be by now to take an out-of-ring character role? Also, such a character would have to eventually take a bump of some sort... is DDP able to do that?
Guest bob_barron Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 I think DDP could take a simple bump- Smackdown is taped so they could always do something
Guest bob_barron Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 The one problem with Shane is that Vince didn't seem to happy to see him and since Vince picks the GM- it wouldnt really make sense. But he'd be an awesome choice as well
Guest CanadianChick Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 The one problem with Shane is that Vince didn't seem to happy to see him and since Vince picks the GM- it wouldnt really make sense. But he'd be an awesome choice as well MAybe he wasn't happy to see him becasue he was suppose to be one Smackdown and was on the wrong show. I know...I'm stretching it, but I really want Shane to be the new GM.
Guest ShamRock Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 SmackDown looks like a good show.I hope the ME turns out good and that Team Canada gets more TV-time.
Guest evenflowDDT Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 Yea, I hope there is a better use for Team Canada than Rikishi ::groans:: What I'd like to see is a singles bout between, say, Edge and Christian, with Storm and Hogan interference as a teaser for Vengeance. Although more than anything else a clean win over either man (particularly Hogan) would make them look like credible challengers, as opposed to the only challengers, which they are right now (other than B&C, but that's just been done too much).
Guest bob_barron Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 Yea- I hope they don't botch Team Canada. Just a note Evenflow- a lot of threads are spoiling the SD! GM thing so I would just come to this thread and avoid all others.
Guest evenflowDDT Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 Yea, I noticed Oh well... actually I'm turning in for the night anyway, I have a job interview tomorrow and I think I already messed myself up by going to bed this late already, even though it's earlier than I usually go to bed during the summer. Anyway, I just realized that they have to do something to make Team Canada look credible tomorrow because... Christian & Storm, good wrestlers but terminal mid-carders/jobbers against EDGE & HOGAN, main-eventers, near-invincible in the mark's eyes (Hogan at least)? The true Canadians will be squashed like bugs at the PPV, particularly if Hogan comes out to "Real American" again.
Guest Razor Roman Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 I think Bradshaw should be the new GM. That would be HOSS-some. ok, I don't really think that, just felt like making a Hoss joke.
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 The one problem with Shane is that Vince didn't seem to happy to see him and since Vince picks the GM- it wouldnt really make sense. I was hoping Linda and the suits were going to react badly to Bischoff's hiring and plant Shane in the SD GM position to prevent Bischoff from destroying the company or running SD's talent pool dry. I guess that's why Steph is there, but where the hell was she to object on Monday night?
Guest Brian Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 For anyone who is avoiding the show, at some point I will probably be posting the two cruiser matches and the main event at the hotline.
Guest AndrewTS Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 In honor of the slow-but-sure transformation of the WWE into WCW, I think that whoever starts the next Smackdown threat should title it by it's rightful name, "WWE Thunder."
Guest Just call me Dan Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 You mean to tell me that some of you somehow DIDN'T have the GM mystery spoiled by some of the jackasses on this board? How the hell did u get around that?
Guest Harry Hood Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 Don't read anything about SD or GM or "I know who the SD GM is" or anything along those lines would have been a good start.
Guest Redhawk Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 Well, we know that the GM has to be a heel. Every on-air authority figure is a heel, and the babyface ones (Shawn Michaels, Mick Foley, Ric Flair) just don't stay around for long without fading away or turning heel. The dynamics of wrestling dictate that the babyface wrestlers must have the odds stacked against them, and a babyface authority figure will always make sure that the odds are not too stacked. The solution? Get rid of on-air authority figures! But that will never happen as long as Vince McMahon is alive and at least until Stephanie McMahon no longer thinks she's cute enough to be on TV (not saying she's ugly or anything). So the Smcakdown GM will be a heel, which narrows it down to Stephanie McMahon, Kevin Nash, or someone new who will be turned heel very quickly. And everything will suck and then the idea will fall through. Damn I hate wrestling sometimes.
Guest evenflowDDT Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 Hmmm... nice deduction, but does Shane count as a heel? I remember a couple times during the inVasion he certainly showed shades of his father as "WCW owner". Also, why can't there be a face owner, to counteract the baaaaaaa-d Bischoff? They could still have "wrestler vs. the owner" storylines, just with the owner holding down the heels and booking them in handicap matches and such (what a novel concept!). Actually scratch that - handicap matches suck, period. But let's see some FACE BEATDOWNS!
Guest Just call me Dan Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 Don't read anything about SD or GM or "I know who the SD GM is" or anything along those lines would have been a good start. You obviously haven't been around the board long enough to even realize what went on yesterday! Just so you know, a few people actually put the new GM's name in thread titles, and AFTERWARDS said *spoiler* in the sub-title. I'm no imbecile, don't try to make me out as one.
Guest Just call me Dan Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 Anyway....... What matches are you guys looking forward to tonight?
Guest evenflowDDT Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 Well, since the only match I know of for sure is The Rock vs. Kurt Angle, I guess you could say I'm looking forward to that by default I just hope Team Canada looks good, because otherwise nobody will buy them as contenders to the belt, then they'll lose on Sunday and nobody will really care because they expected it because they didn't look credible. Hmmmm.... other than that there might be an exchange between Kidman and Knoble to set up a match at the PPV, because they're a little light on matches right now. This would be the first time since the "split" that the RAW has more guys working the PPV than Smackdown!
Guest CanadianChris Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 Canadian SmackDown starts NOW!!!
Guest Midnight Express83 Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 I haven't really read the spoilers but I feel I know who the SD GM is. Well, every major WWF angle since 1997 has had a McMahon in it. so that either means Stephanie is back or Shane is fueding with Bischoff on Nitro. The good people to be GM would be Heyman, Shane, Foley, Sting, or hell, even Jim Ross. But More than likely it is going to be Stephanie.
Guest Flyboy Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 Did the Rock just do the 'Happy Dance' in the matchup screen? Jericho? Curtain jerking? YAY! /sarcasm
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 Mmm, piped in chants. And man, I am so very much waiting for the day that Fit Finlay stops just breaking up scuffles and starts stiffing the shit out of people. Flip out, Fit!
Guest Flyboy Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 Yeah.. did you see how he snatched that chair away from Jerky? Heh.
Guest TheHulkster Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 Cena looked very Von Erich-ian tonight. At least to me anyway.
Guest LesnarLunatic Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 Cena needs more distinctive pants. and Bischoff~! sucking up to Randy Orton and Hogan.
