Bush to "relax" protected species rules, by allowing develop

WASHINGTON - The Bush administration on Monday said it plans to let federal agencies decide for themselves whether highways, dams, mines and other construction projects might harm endangered animals and plants.

It's hard to be surprised by anything this idiot does, but this surprises, infuriates, and dumbfounds me. Bush is putting the decision into the hands of the developers? REALLY?!? He cannot be serious! In a long list of dumb, ill-intentioned ideas, this one has to be in the top three.

Edit: The title should say, "Bush to "relax" protected species rules, by allowing developers to decide on endangered status instead of scientists."

The Developers responded by saying "we have decided the projects do not harm endangered species and plants".

When asked, which project they were referring to, they answered "All of the projects that we will begin in the next 50 years"

Hey, the guy only has six months left in office. Let him have his fun. If these "protected species" can't cowboy up for half a year, maybe they didn't deserve to be protected in the first place.

I, for one, am glad to see someone finally take the important task of preserving America's wildlife out of the hands of egghead government scientists and placing it under the control of the private sector. For too long we've slaved under the notion that government is the answer to all our problems. It's time to let the real movers and shakers of society--businessmen and entrepreneurs--do what they do best: Synergize knowledge and develop efficient, actionable market-based solutions that benefit everybody.

Ahh.

When Clinton left, he put in tighter Arsenic-In-The-Drinking-Water standards.

When Bush leaves, he puts in Fuck-Endangered-Species standards.

Soo evident...

Wait, federal agencies aren't necessarily the same as developers, are they? I don't know. I didn't read the article yet. Did you guys?

That makes sense. It seems like one of those things that would work in theory, letting the Dep't of the Interior handle these things in a more streamlined manner, but it'll probably end up fucking over the environment. Whatever, the Democrats will fix it.

They get to "decide for themselves," which will almost always result in putting public projects in favor of endangered whatevers.

"This freeway will go right through the marsh."

"Fuck it."

Wait, federal agencies aren't necessarily the same as developers, are they?

Under this administration federal agencies have been reduced to little more than middle-men used to funnel public funds to private contractors soooo....
