6/2: Bonding With OnDemand

11:45 p.m.

• Every month or so I'll browse my OnDemand free movies just to see what's going on. For some reason the "Movieplex" selections don't always appear in the general "free movies" area, and oftentimes I'll forget it's even there. Today I remembered to check it, and lo' and behold what's on the plate for this month? The first five James Bond films. Tis' going to be a good month, tater.

• Uh, guys...

A union representing 570 space shuttle program workers at the Kennedy Space Center voted to strike Saturday, less than a week before the planned launch of the shuttle Atlantis.

The International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers, which represents the United Space Alliance employees, rejected the company's contract offer Saturday morning, Florida Today reported.

United Space Alliance spokeswoman Tracy Yates said the union could strike as early as June 10, two days after NASA officials plan to launch Atlantis.

"The bottom line is, a strike would not affect the next launch or the next one after that," Yates said. The company "has a plan in place."

...you might want to think twice about striking. The space program doesn't have that same "oooh, ahhh" effect on the public as it did 40 years ago. Then again, this is the government we're talking about. Five-hundred percent raises for all.

• Oh Karl Rove, why couldn't you have sped this up a bit? We might still be in charge of Congress otherwise.

As first reported by NewsChannel4's Jonathan Dienst, three people were arrested and one other was being sought Saturday in connection to a plot to blow up jet-fuel lines at John F. Kennedy International Airport, officials said.

Four people have been charged. Three suspects are in custody: Russell Defreitas, Kareem Ibrihim and Abdul Kadir. Another suspect, Abdul Nur is still at large.

I don’t get the big whoop terrorists have with airplanes. Why not strike an electrical grid or mess with out food supply? Believe me, you’d frighten many more people if they can’t use their air conditioner or go out for a Big Mac.

I really, really, really wish we had on-demand up here. I'd be on that in a heartbeat, and not just for the free movies. WWF 24/7 on-demand looks awesome and I'd pay whatever they charge without a second thought. Sadly us eskimos haven't learned the finer points of digital cable yet, and I suppose I'm lucky I can get digital cable at all to my igloo.

Hell, you don't need OnDemand for a 007 Fest: Spike T.V. has those every other week.

Spike's 007 Fests usually take place during Thanksgiving/Christmas. Besides, these were commercial-free, so they weren't 3+ hours long.

Hmm, I don't remember seeing a "Movieplex" section. I have time warner, maybe it's different in Pittsburgh.

And don't the terrorists watch Batman movies. Didn't the Riddler try to mess with Gotham's water suppy? And didn't Liam Neeson's character try and do essentially the same thing with a psychotropic drug? Man, get off the airplanes, get with the times.
