Honestly, you'd have to be retarded or something to think it hit the bat after watching the replay. It was clear as day. The bat came into the screen a full half-second behind the ball hitting the glove and dropping to the ground.

Bullshit. They showed the side view of the play and the ball never hit Ausmus's glove. It clearly changed direction because it hit the underside of Dye's bat. All the announcers even admitted as such. Dye didn't even head towards first until the ump pointed him down the line. The movement of the ball came from it hitting the bat during the gap between frames in the camera shots. The ball missed Dye's arm by 3 or 4 inches and hit Dye's bat. The umpire, seeing the ball headed in the direction of his face, closed his eyes as a reaction (you can see it after Ausmus's glove moves at the very end of the extreme close up). All the umpire had to go on was the sound of the ball hitting something and his own last impression of the ball riding up and in on the batter. So, he calls it a HBP when it should have been a foul ball.

 

Am I pissed? Hell yeah. But, these plays happen in baseball (see Everett's phantom tag). Umpires' perception of that happened isn't always accurate.

I'd say that the umps have leaned towards the Sox on just about every questionable call in this entire postseason. Doesn't take away from the fact that they look unstoppable. I just wish the umps wouldn't be so quick to give them every call when it's clear they need none of the help.

I only saw the replay once, the one FOX showed during the game, but it looked to me like the ball clearly hit the bat. I'm not sure how people are seeing it hit Ausmus' glove....

I'm not into AIM chats, but I just want to point out that the second half of the inning there was what baseball's all about. None of this try to get somebody on base before you bash the ball over the fence.

 

The Sox got multiple hits, ran the bases, and scored two runs. If everybody played that way, I'd watch a hell of a lot more baseball.

You can all thank my fiancee.  She's a good luck charm for the Sox.  She called me last Sunday, and minutes later, the Sox won the ALCS.  She watched the game with me last night and they won.  She called me tonight, and not 30 seconds later, grand slam.

 

Okay, so maybe it's a coincidence, but as long as the Sox win, that's what matters.

But so what if it did? There is no way to know if or how things would have turned out differently if they had called it a foul ball. At full speed, surely you can see how it would be difficult to make the 100% correct call. We all have the gift of multiple replays.

 

Besides, the Astros have played enough sloppy baseball in this Series that a single non-call on that foul ball did not put them down 0-2.

MLB has taken over the decision-making over whether the roof at the Juicebox will be open or closed for the next three games. The Astros are crying loudly about it, too saying that the dome is part of their home-field advantage.

 

While they have a point that MLB might be out of line in suddenly making these decisions (why didn't they do it in the other two series?), I don't see why it matters. I don't think the White Sox will be cowering in fear of the loud Houston fans. The weather is freaking gorgeous here today--why wouldn't they open the roof?

 

I guess this will be the excuse if the Astros lose tonight.

Ugh ... I absolutely hate it when fans think that a sport is purposely altering the Series to let one team win over another. Maybe baseball is stepping in now because they don't want the World Series games that the whole nation is allegedly watching to be impacted by one team's obvious home field manipulation. Last year in the NFL playoffs, the NFL made the Patriots re-sod their stadium before the game vs. the Colts. Should I have accused the league of wanting the Colts to win?!?

 

Even if the league DID want the White Sox to win it all, wouldn't they at least want the Series to go as long as possible? If anything, they should be rooting Astros now, and then switching back to rooting Sox after the Stros have won a few games.
