  1. You answered your own question. I remember reading that not so long ago. Yep that was the basic jist of it. Tully had failed a drug test right before Survivor Series and Arn had given his notice that they were headed back to the NWA, so I believe on the SNME taping they had Heenan "fire" them after they lost to the Rockers to kayfabe the exit
  2. I know this has been discussed many times, but I'd like to get everyone's opinion here on it. Why do you think the Ultimate Warrior's title reign bombed as bad as it did? The consensus view tends to be that it was simply because Hogan never left the scene and was thrown into all the money feuds that should have gone to Warrior (Perfect, Earthquake), leaving him with matches against Rick Rude, whom he had already defeated before over a year ago and then stuck in limbo teaming with LOD against Demolition for the rest of the year
  3. The whole point of the 1990 Rumble was to get the Warrior/Hogan feud moving. Also, not to get technical Dr. Venkman, but Gorialla did not do the commentary for this. It was Tony Schiavone and Jesse. That being said, this show holds a soft place in my heart and today is still my favorite Rumble, even though outside of Hogan/Warrior, nothing significant takes place.
  4. I believe they had Studd win the Royal Rumble to help build him up as a legitimate contendor against Andre, whom he was supposed to fued with after WrestleMania V going all throughout the summer. I read in Andre's new book though that Studd was so terrified of Andre because he thought that Andre was legitimately going to beat the shit out of him that he just packed up and left and was never heard from again
  5. Shit Savage should be pissed at Vince for putting him into mid card fueds the whole first 9 months of 1990. How do you go from Wrestling Hogan in the main event of WM5 to jobbing out to Rhodes in less then a year
  6. I'm not sure about the late 90's, but right around 03-04, I feel wrestling really took a hit. I mean I stopped watching after 2001 but even then you could tell it was losing momentum. IMO I feel that a lack of top "big name" stars at the time were the problem. I mean didn't Bob Holly wrestle Brock Lesnar at a pay-per-view one time in 2004? I mean Bob Holly? Thats just one example. I just don't think you could taske your average mid carder and throw him into a feud with one of the top names and have people get interested
  7. Definitely..like you said looking back 19 years later its easy to say Warrior was the wrong choice, but back then it was THE dream match, not to mention Vince's cashcow. I remember watching Warrior's first TV title defense on SNME against Haku and 2 minutes into the match they had to darken the entire arena to cover up the empty seats, not to mention pump in tons of canned heat. Guess the writing was on the wall early
  8. I think Perfect going over Hogan at Royal Rumble would have been better, then Warrior could have beat Perfect at WM6 and then he wouldn't have had to worry about all the Hogan marks not supporting him. Maybe that would have made Warrior's title reign more lucrative in the end, who knows? But as we all know the WWF just didn't do business that way. No way were they having a WrestleMania without Hogan in the main event
  9. Lol thank you King...new at this, obviously still working out the kinks. Please don't think I am a Zeus fan hahah
  10. Was Vince really considering Zeus vs Hogan for the Main Event at WMVI? I had always heard that Warrior was pretty much penciled in right after SummerSlam '89 to become the new champ. Looking back in hindsight obviously it was the wrong call, but I could certainly see at the time how it made sense
