  1. I disagree, with the exception of the DS version. Capcom USA owns Street Fighter, and they basically let David Sirlin do all the Street Fighter stuff lately. It will essentially be the same game with graphical tweaks, if they have any say at all.
  2. I have some bad news: Gift-giving isn't just region-locked, it's COUTNRY-locked. A US gamer, apparently, can't gift a game to a Canada player. If we still want to do this, we'll have to split the pools up by country.
  3. Other than my basic guidelines of "Don't flake out", I don't care what you guys do. I sent UTBroward a birthday present to try out the service. If you can't figure out how to use it, you are braindead.
  4. You can choose to decline gifts! Did not know that.
  5. Well then, let's say you need to sign up by the 16th. After that, you have until the 31st to send your gift.
  6. I'd like to do this starting next Monday. Ideally, actually doing this shouldn't take more than a day, though, so we could do it on Christmas Eve. However, people might be travelling, so I'd like to set a window for between the 17th and the 23rd. Therefore, I'd like to get everyone signed up by the 16th, so I can draw names out of hats. Other ideas: If someone flakes out, can something be done to them? I.E. Can an admin screw with their account to change their avatar or sig? Is that even necessary?
  7. The latest EGM says that the producer does not want to limit himself to platforms. Thus, there's a chance we'll see this on Wii, PS2, and DS. Maybe PSP, but PS2 and DS are specifically mentioned.
  8. I'm shocked no one has mentioned Steve Blackman yet. "It's party time!"
  9. You can't. If you try to gift a game to someone, and they already own that game, you get an error.
  10. In the Shop Channel, now, when you select a game, you have the option to buy it for yourself, or for someone else. That's all. So, to answer your questions: You buy games on the shop channel to give away. The second question is moot, since if you gift a game you already own, you still have to pay for it. So it's not removed from your list.
  11. So, the VC Gift giving thing is out. I was wondering if anyone was interested in participating in a TSM Secret Santa of sorts. Basic ideas: People choose to participate. For every person participating, they give one VC game to someone else in the list of people, randomly chosen (I'll draw names out of a hat and PM people) You can choose whatever VC game you want to give. If you gift a game that is generally agreed upon to suck, you may be subject to public humiliation. To participate, you have to be on the list of Wii Numbers. I imagine if I get at least 5 people, it'll be worth doing. Anyone interested? The gift-giving feature is now available for Virtual Console. By sheer coincidence, today is UTBroward's birthday... Now would be a good time to visit the Wii Numbers thread, if there's anyone on your list.

Yeah, in truth, WASD vs Analog is nowhere near as big of a deal as mouse vs analog.
  14. Looks easier than I thought. I have a spare wired pad, I think I might give this a try some day.
  15. Agreed, but how did you mod it? Is it easy for a tinkering noob?

You're right, in single player, enemies wouldn't take advantage of it. Hardware manufacturers (Microsoft, Nintendo) mandate that a keyboard cannot be used. The PS3 version of UT3 will support WASD.
  17. Well, there was Capcom Fighting Evolution, but I dunno if you can call that major.

You're overlooking one problem with analog moving. In the period that you move the stick from one position to another, let's say top left to bottom right, your character is still moving forward and to the left until you cross the threshhold which is the neutral point. There is a moment where your movement will slow.

On the contrary, if you're moving forward and left, it's faster to switch direction on a keyboard than an analog stick, thanks to the travel time of the devices. Not to mention that the feeling of floaty momentum is reduced or eliminated on a keyboard. You say it yourself, that reaction time is faster. This is because the keyboard is a digital solution, compared to an analog solution like a joystick. Ask yourself: How long does it take for you to move a joystick from one direction to another, versus depressing some keys and pressing others?
  20. Redoctane told Nintencast that downloadable songs for the Wii are hopefully, going to arrive starting the beginning of the new year.

I have an 802.11b router. It's the slowest router you can get. It transfers at 11 megabits per second. My cable internet transfers at 6 megabits per second, so therefore, I'm not losing any speed. As far as things such as packet loss, yeah, they can happen. There are tons of safeguards in place, which slow the speed down as a result. Even so, I've played Mario Strikers online and had no troubles whatsoever. Same deal with playing my DS online. The main weakness of wireless networking is when you want to stream media intra-network. 802.11b is nowhere near the level of speed you need, and for today's hi-def media, 802.11g isn't enough either. 802.11a might be, but a, as a standard, is pretty much dead. 802.11n does have the level of speed you need, but both the PS3 and the Wii max out at G (Wii could actually be b, I'm not sure, but I think it's g, not that the Wii is gonna stream your media anyway (yes, I know there's stuff on the Internet for that you can get to with the Internet channel, but come on)) The 11 is theoretical. You're getting less than that. Probably around 5 locally. Possibly. 11 is maximum, but based on signal degredation, it will downgrade to 5.5, then 2, then 1.

That's mostly untrue. Half-Life 2 could run on lower end computers and still look fine. It was really well optimized. In fact, the Source engine scales incredibly well. By all accounts Crysis scales really really well as well. Guild Wars can be played on a low end system and look great and then look absolutely amazing on a high end system. Unreal Engine was pretty scalable as well (UE3 not so much I hear though). Sure there's games where they don't try and optimize them at all and you know what? Most of those are console ports. The worst offenders as of late have been Stranglehold, Gears of War, Lost Planet, and the worst Guitar Hero III. The required specs on GHIII are absolutely ridiculous for the game that it is. So very true. Strangely enough, Gears is UE3.

What's so great about ASWD movement? Oh right, nothing. WASD, in my experience, allows for greater twitch precision than analog, while sacrificing the ability to run at angles.
  24. I can't think of a single wireless router that can't also simultaneously be used as a wired router. I didn't even know such a thing existed.

Music is fine. Movies at DVD resolution or below would be fine.
