My initial judgment was on the name and your description of what got them in trouble. Then I went to the link you provided, and was totally confirmed as right by a bunch of retarded prank calls and guys going "YEAH-UH!" and such, exactly the same as any other morning show built for 16-year-olds and the worst kind of frat boy. Listen to some music or the news. Also, the fact that Rando has extensive knowledge of and passion for something is generally a warning sign.

I'm always amazed by how many people listen to terrible morning talk radio. The Doghouse? Are you shitting me?

Massive "holy shit" to Nash's half-court alley-oop to Marion. That was fucking fantastic. Barbosa's going insane again, too. I love this.

Sure there is. As soon as he started describing what he wanted to do, I thought "Ha, Watchmen! Awesome." My reaction was the pleasure of recognition, and a satisfaction that the writers of this show really do seem to respect their "source" material and the genre they're working in. We've already seen homages to any number of incredibly well-known characters (Wolverine!) and less well-known characters (The Purple Man!), and I like that the writers on this show appear to be well-versed in a whole lot of comic/superhero mythology. Keeps me confident that they'll keep coming up with good stuff. As for the plot itself, I expect it to turn out differently here, one way or another.

I can't believe that two guys named Gerard and Bert are so popular with the kids these days.

I've read Watchmen like 5 times. It's awesome. One of my favorite books ever, comics and otherwise. Heroes is cool too. Chillax. A movie version of Watchmen is almost guaranteed to suck anyway--every script has been abysmal--so who cares? Maybe more people will read Watchmen now and everyone can be happy and smart and shit.

Touche. And in one word less than me!

I love the Watchmen parallel. In many ways this show is an homage to tons of comic book archetypes and characters, so seeing that get its place in the lineage is way cool to me.

Through his own odd idiosyncracies, Marvin is actually totally cold pimpin' this young woman. She's craving his solid state, and he's just like "Nah, I'll catch you later." I'm perplexed and pleased all at once.

Supreme Court Bans Partial Birth Abortion
Edwin MacPhisto replied to Danville_Wrestling's topic in Current Events
Close. This outlaws type, not a timeframe, and frankly I don't care what you do to cells that have been growing in a womb for 4 months regardless of how you do it. More importantly than any personal feelings I have about abortion, this reads like shitty law designed largely to open the door for full abortion restrictions, and I think Ginsberg's dissent is very on point. -

You live in that world already, smitty. You just gotta embrace it. -
Aborted Thread Dumping Ground

Maybe a thread like Songs You Appreciate Infinitely More When Drunk and at a Party. In the 7th or so post, I'd say something about how this one time "Say It Ain't So" came on at 2 in the morning, and... Or Oh God, the 90s Were Eight Years Ago, talking about how I feel old and which music has held up and why. The endstage of all this would probably be a bunch of posts in all-caps like SHIMMERING POWER-POP, all in one big blitz like one of those Pavlovian training sessions in Clockwork Orange. -

Tonight I lied to my coworkers and told them that the Virginia Tech thing was entering my limited pantheon of Stuff I Will Never Make Fun Of, which also includes cancer and September 11. Really it's just cancer; 9/11's ship sailed years ago, and I'll probably be an asshole about this within a year or so, maybe in time for the VT game this football season. I once thought about making a thread tangentially related to Weezer every week just to see if Czech would set himself on fire, but that was way too long term an effort. -
snuffbox is being excessively dopey here. Ripper wasn't the "LET'S GET 'EM!" guy. I'd like something else horrible to happen in the news so we stop getting articles and exposure about this murderin' dude.

I can't believe NBC released the videos. I mean, I can, but jeez, guys.

I knew that one, but I figured it was kind of cheating if either Plagiarism! or I jumped in there.

The New York Times story mentions the street where his parents live, and local news here in Virginia showed their house several times yesterday. Seems like pretty bad procedure to me.

I think it's exactly hindsight, and there's really not much more to it. Thousands of people write shitty macabre plays or follow a girl around, or both, or act "rebellious" in a class. The distance between that and killing 32 people is close to immeasurable. I certainly would have done nothing more than assume he was acting out for attention and ignore him completely, and I don't think anyone else posting here would have done anything differently.

I don't know that, but by the power of inferences I'll bet it's Guided by Voices.

You could pull it off all right with a cheesy hologram.

That would be a great porn cover. Edit: No, a fantastic porn cover.

Virginia (especially Blacksburg, where Virginia Tech is) is definitely the south; almost all of Florida outside the panhandle is definitely not, geography aside.
