I would be absolutely fascinated if Shane got away with it, like Vic's gotten away with everything. I don't think they'll go that route, though. There's always been inertia towards destruction on this show and I don't think it'll ever stop. I remember being a bit pissed that they didn't do Vic vs. Shane towards the end of season 4 like it seemed they would, but this is so, so much better. Another thing to love about the show: it rarely makes a major move too soon.

Awesome. Shane's reactions this whole episode were heartbreaking even though we know he's a total murdering disloyal piece of shit. And the crime scene Dutch found was just horrifying, even by The Shield's usually brutal standards.

I would have agreed with you as late as last year, but Jack's barely a character anymore. This season he's just become a cipher for badassery and whatever mission needs to be accomplished, without any of the personality or macabre inventiveness that made him so great. He also doesn't have anyone to care about anymore, no weakness. Ultimately, everything he did for three years was about Kim, and then Audrey stepped in as the placeholder he loves who needs protection. The change isn't surprising considering how season 5 went down (his friends and the few people he trusts die; he kills his former mentor; he realizes the President, symbol of the country, is a terror; he gets dragged off to China and taken away from humanity). Season 5 hardwired him for two emotions and courses of action--hopelessness and revenge--but season 6 hasn't played on any of that outside of the first four episodes and his revelation about Audrey's death. It's very disappointing to me, because this is the first year that formula feels really, really, really played out, where the writers haven't managed too add much of anything. 24 could carry on without Jack if it had a total scenario change--no more L.A., etc. But Ricky Schroder definitely isn't the guy to carry the torch.

Guy's 41 and has already hit the highest high he'll ever hit at Florida. You really can't accomplish more at a school than back-to-back national championships. At UK he goes to one of the top--if not the top--traditional basketball schools, and gets a whole new set of challenges and expectations. He's been at UF for 10 years, which is a long time for any job; dude could want a change of pace. The money's going to be the same at either place, so I wouldn't be any more surprised to see him bolt than stick around.

The headbutt and feathers are both solid gold.

Slice a red, green, and yellow pepper, add italian dressing and parmesan, and you have a good quick gay-for-springtime pasta salad. Egg noodles always seem to take in a lot of whatever flavor you dump on top of them.

Reading Dave Eggers' What is the What, a fictionalized autobiography of a real-life Sudanese refugee he befriended. Really good so far through the first third. I also love the book design, which is worth checking out if you're in a bookstore--no dust jacket, with the cover art embossed directly onto the book. Dig it.

Hahaha. I love this guy more every day.

Moz at Wolf Trap! That's awesome. 7,000 might be high, but that'll basically cover the whole DC metro area. I think he can pack it.

Should be a good championship game, but I'll always take the deeper, more balanced, more experienced team over the squad with the sleepy, occasionally average freshman center. Of course, OSU was the big favorite in the football version of this. I think Conley and Lewis will win this for Ohio State if Ohio State wins this.

You know, I don't think I've ever listened to any of the US versions of those albums. Looking at the tracklist on wikipedia, I can see where the American might flow a little better, but I couldn't survive the loss of "Drive My Car." In high school I knew a guy who hated "Nowhere Man," so I'm sure he would share your opinion. Unfortunately, he moved to New York, went to Tisch, and stopped believing in time, so I can't really confirm since he probably doesn't own a phone.

I'm really beginning to like Eli Roth.

LCD is playing here in DC in the middle of May. It's the same week a few of my friends are trying to head down to Virginia Beach or the Outer Banks for a few days, but I'm secretly hoping they fail to properly organize things and we just all go to this concert instead.

"To Be Young" is a fantastic song, even if it is one of Adams' most transparent attempts at biting Dylan. He does it really, really well this time around, and the lovely breakdown around 2 minutes in or so ultimately helps keep the song from just being imitation. More recent tunes: I really dig the Peter, Bjorn, and John album. Hadn't heard anything beyond "Young Folks" and the Girl Talk remix of "Let's Call it Off" until the U.S. release yesterday. Those first 4 songs make for a great starting run, especially "Objects of My Affection." I'm a sucker for martial drums.

And beloved character actor JT Walsh, too. This actually was getting replayed on either the Sci-Fi channel or one of the Encore movie channels a few weeks ago.

I remembering seeing this on some ad for a mid-90s compilation ad, and then thinking, "Wow, I've heard this song before, but don't remember when." A few years later, I made up for my early 90s oversight by working at Target during a 3-month period that they played the video endlessly on the Target Video Network in the electronics department. -
I don't think we know if it is. Fascinating interview with show creator Moore at this site, which explains that those four are Cylons, but totally different kinds of Cylons. Some very very minor speculation about next season and the directions it could take in there as well.

I get that, brosephus. I'm just trying to figure out the logistics behind the possibilities, and what the Final Five actually are in the context of the mythology, and how it would work that they are them, or iterations of them. That's Tyrol, Anders, and Tory, by the way. Maybe they're particularly closely tied descendants of Earth, moreso than the rest of the Kobol kids. Oh, my brains.

It is. January. Also, there's going to be a 2-hour BSG special in September, I think, a prequel following the Pegasus and Admiral Cain. Should be cheery fun! I don't know that they're Cylons. If they are, they're totally different than the other kinds. It's really Tigh as a Cylon that throws that off the most for me. I'm not sure how he could be. Maybe they're humans and got tweaked somehow. The transmission of "All Along the Watchtower" has got to be from Earth, or it's totally cheesy. I don't know WTF is up with Starbuck, either. And I can't believe they're going to make us wait 10 months to find out.

Roy Williams is back in form! I've got a perfect final four in my work bracket. But I had Texas A&M winning it all here, alas. -

Georgetown's had 7 free throws. UNC's gotten to the line thirty times. Diyyamn. -
It took me forever to realize that the vocalist on the commercial that spins around a rapid succession of Cadillacs was Iggy Pop. The fact that the Stooges just put out a new album is also totally weird.

Oh god, that was disgusting. I'm visiting my parents and their giant TV this weekend, and the last thing I needed to see was blood squirting out of that Memphis player's eye in 70-inch HDTV glory.
