I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "external sata-usb case". Is the computer a custom build? Or did you buy a PCI multi-adapter card that includes an external SATA hookup?

Chances are, if you look through your task manager, you'll be able to find it. If not, and if it loads immediately with Windows, go to start --> run --> type in "msconfig" and go to the far right tab and deselect EVERYTHING. Then, try enabling things one by one until it comes back up. There, you'll know what process it is that's causing the problem, and it will tell you where on your hard drive the program is. Then, get some spyware solutions that will actually stop this sort of shit, get a better antivirus, and keep windows updated next time.

Yeah, it's got to be a major downer for the team, all of whom seemed to be under the impression that Mario was going to travel with them on their next road trip. He had an irregular heartbeat that he was trying to come back from, but apparently, he couldn't do it. It's a major risk anyway, and I certainly don't blame him for not wanting to jeopardize his health in order to play on a team that stinks as bad as the Pens do right now. It's still a shame, though, that the two announcements (of his retirement and that he's selling the team) came so close together. It's going to be tough to watch the Pens without at least hearing from Mario as a player/owner/general manager/spokesperson/something.

Yup, ESPN's on it now, too.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting this morning that Mario Lemieux has called a press conference for this afternoon and plans to announce his retirement. I haven't found any corroborating stories, but if so, I hate to see Mario move on like this. I wanted to see him succeed alongside of Sidney Crosby, and it's a shame his career had to end like this. But, I do get an ounce of suspicion that he's going to talk about ownership, not retirement. That might explain the lack of any other media coverage.

Allocating free virtual memory
Dr. Tyler; Captain America replied to David Blazenwing's topic in Technology
Control Panel --> System --> Advanced --> Performance Settings --> Advanced --> Virtual Memory (Change) --> Select a hard drive and set the min and max size to the same number, which should be between 1-2 gigs --> Set ---> Restart computer. -
Intel chips have a lot of problems, for one. The Intel Pentium D's, which are the dual core Intel solution, don't handle data very well and don't benchmark nearly as well as the AMD X2's, for example; people smarter than me speculate that Intel rushed them off the production line and didn't really do a very good job of integrating the two cores. Similarly, they rushed the Prescott cores off of the line as well and didn't take into account the fact that they run scorching hot and don't handle data very well. They typically underperform AMD chips by a large margin in benchmark tests, and AMD chips run a lot cooler. Also, if you're looking to overclock (which, you very well may not be), AMD motherboards are typically geared towards it, whereas Intel boards typically aren't. That's not always the case, of course. Price-wise, as well, you get more bang for the buck going AMD. Their chips are not as expensive (with the notable exception of the FX series) as Intel and typically outperform them. Intel seems to be behind in the technology race, especially with 64 bit processing and dual core capability (although the former won't be a factor until Vista comes out). I just think AMD is a better buy at this point in time.

Your Political Beliefs

For once, I really do agree with Rant. She's average looking at best, and some of you are fawning. Color me unimpressed. EDIT: Holy shit, was that NOT Rant? What the fuck was I looking at? Whomever that guy up there was, I agree. And I'm leaving my mistake as is because it's pretty fucking funny to me.

Yeah, see, that's different from a Pentium D (which are the dual cores). If I were you, I'd scrap the idea of using it for a new build since you're going to end up spending a good amount of money finding cooling solutions for a Prescott, and since your options are somewhat limited by it being a 478 pin processor, I'd go for a new CPU. If you INSIST on staying Intel, I believe there are some budget dual cores that will do the job, but I'd reccomend an AMD A64 X2 for dual core and a good ol' A64 3400+ for single core. Stay away from Prescott cores if at all possible.

Further confirmation that it's probably a Socket T: There are only two PD's on Newegg (ironically, neither have HT, so you either have a wacky custom built Dell chip or you f'd up the specs a little bit), and both are Socket T. Either way, even if I'm wrong, Newegg's RMA policy is so awesome that you can send the board back for a refund if it's the wrong one.
-
As for the desired mobo, I'd say go for something like this
-
99.999999% chance it's a Socket T. Intel hasn't been using 478 for a while, if I'm not mistaken.

Shannon Sharpe made a rare good point in his nfl.com column. People have been saying for the last two years that any of the AFC's top teams can beat any of the NFC teams. Now, we get a chance to prove it. AFC's #6 vs. NFC's #1. Here we go Steelers...

Motherfucking yes.

Jake Plummer reminds me so god damned much of 2001, when Kordell Stewart went basically the whole year without making a single crucial mistake. He was mentioned (and I think even came in second) for MVP and when they got to the AFCC, he imploded just like everyone was waiting for. Plummer is Kordell Stewart 2006. He's gonna implode, it's just a matter of time. Dickie LeBeau is going to stop the Broncos' running game if he has to put nine in the box; do you really trust Plummer throwing 30 times? Do you think he's changed that much?

NFL Playoffs: Divisional Round
Dr. Tyler; Captain America replied to Failed Bridge's topic in Sports
Seriously, if one year was all that it took to turn Eli into a "top echelon" quarterback, give Grossman another nine games or so to show whether or not the Bears need to trade for Phillip Rivers. -

As Banky said in the other thread, that's not nearly as bad as Manning blaming his offensive line for the loss after saying "You know, I want to be a good teammate..." That's sort of like saying "I want to be a good American, but fuck the president, I hope we all get nuked, and France rocks!" -

unfuckingbelievable. -
Here's the thing: I don't even mind it if he complains a bit about officiating. If it was my team, I'd chalk it up to emotions and move on to the offseason. But, HJ Housamnadzedah takes it a step further and talks about some conspiracy bullshit about how the league wants to set up a Pats-Colts rematch in the AFCC and needs to keep the stellar superbengals down since they clearly are the only ones that can beat the Colts and well, duh, if they had done this and this and this they wouldn't have been kept down by the... ...it's ridiculous. He needs to just shut up. And Marvin Lewis needs to not encourage his players to give everyone else bulletin board material.

I've probably said it a few times, and I know I've said it in real life when I'm not thinking. But, nonetheless, it's sort of funny to take a step back and look at those type of comments, which run rampant on team-specific boards. I read a board on stillers.com, and there are plenty of Bengals, Browns, Ravens, etc. fans on there that, after they lose, say stuff like "Good luck next week!" I mean, what the fuck? Good luck finding a seat at the bar? Good luck trying to get a BJ during the game?
