It's not Gonzales' opinion, but it IS Acostia's opinion of Gonzales' opinion. Perhaps Gonzales should clarify.

    Shit-storm coming for Kanye?

That's exactly the point some of us have been trying to make this entire thread. That was the soundbite, because it was the last thing he said. That was one line of the off-script remarks. He also talked about the fact that the media is portraying black "looters" and white "survivors", etc.

    Shit-storm coming for Kanye?

To some extent, but just as Rant/Czech/half of the board said, "NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOUR STUPID CELEBRITY OPINION!!!" So, why would you be less likely to donate? In fact, why would you watch the program in the first place? If that's the case, how does Kanye's opinion make it less likely that Joe Donor is going to donate? All they've got to do is call 1-800-HELP-NOW. They don't have to tune into some potentially corny and horrifically boring telethon where all the speakers are expected to parrot each other. They'd call anyway. The only possible effect of Kanye's words would be positive, to persuade those reluctant to give to help the "animals" that it's a worthy cause. That he went down the murky road of blaming the President isn't nearly the point; since his comments are made "irrelevant" by that remark, the net effect of his speech is nil and vivisectvi, Rant, et al are using straw men to condemn West. Thing is, people that take a step back for a second already realize that. The fact that I have to explain this means that I just have too much fucking time on my hands between class and working out.

    Shit-storm coming for Kanye?

I'm calling major, massive, steaming pile of shenanegans on this comment. If you think people are LESS LIKELY to donate for hurricane relief because of what Kanye said, you either don't understand human thought or you're using hysterical hyperbole to prove your point. People aren't going to be less likely to donate to hurricane relief because Kanye let everyone know that the people down there suffering aren't animals. Try to keep to sane, rational points when you're making your case.

...what point was that again? Do I look like Kanye's publicist?

    Shit-storm coming for Kanye?

Sure didn't, because he had the ability to talk for a few minutes on a nationally televised telethon.

    Shit-storm coming for Kanye?

How many times has Kanye been on Today or Leno with an actual interview, as opposed to just being a musical guest? Answer: likely zero.

    Shit-storm coming for Kanye?

Well, you're entitled to whatever idiotic opinion you want, of course. You've made it very, very clear that you don't believe/care about/know what the fuck he's talking about or anything of the like, so that's to be expected, though.

    Shit-storm coming for Kanye?

Based on the very point of his argument -- the media's racism -- a Kanye West press conference or interview would very little pull in the mass media. Not a damned person would've seen it, heard about it, or talked about the important issues he raised. You're offering a red herring for the sake of bashing someone with whom you disagree. The point was to raise awareness, before he had the AUDACITY to talk about Bush. The last part, as Ripper said, was ill advised. The parts before were terribly relevant, and probably could've convinced people who were apathetic towards contributing to care a little bit more. However, the soundbite is "Bush doesn't care about black people," so you can argue about how Kanye West hates America and is tactless, stupid, belligerant, foul-mouthed, and black.

Kanye West ready to release 2nd album

I bought Late Registration this weekend and I listened to it about six times in the car on my way back up to college. I have to say, you're right about it getting progressively better every time you listen to it. My favorite songs the first few listens were the singles (both "Diamonds" versions and "Gold Digger"), but now, I adore "Drive Slow" and "Roses". There's so much good in this album that it's hard to really quantify it all. Great effort.

It has the potential to be, though. It depends on how quickly we get the refineries back up and running.

    Congratulate me.

I'm 21, bitches. This isn't a teenage engagement... although, it's sorta close. I've been dating her for almost four years, though, so piss off And pics will be forthcoming. I just got back to school, so I've got to connect my scanner. We're going to do it in April of '07, because I want to give her like, a year and a half to plan. I don't really think teenage engagements are entirely useless... if you're mature enough that you really know what you're getting into. I think I'm pretty solid in that department, but then again, maybe not. Either way, her dad is loaded and it's gonna be a fun party.

Pittsburgh tends to run the most horrible, vanilla offenses and defenses during the preseason. Don't read much into it.

    The Cost of Oil.

HOLY GOD IS SJ RIGHT. I live in DC's suburb capital of festering, neverending roadwork, and I absolutely can't stand it. The worst part is, they seem to be making the roads worse. They're creating this massive interchange to enter the Capitol Beltway right in my backyard, and somehow, every addition seems to make it 10 times worse. They somehow managed to take a straight road and, in order to fit a giganto-ramp in the middle of it, made it an S curve that completes itself in the course of about twenty feet. WTF.

    The Cost of Oil.

DC does have good public transport, but it's expensive as all hell.

    The Cost of Oil.

I agree with everything SJ said except: Bull. Shit. Stick to your realm: economics. The truth is, most of Congress is in the pocket of the oil industry, and that includes both sides of the aisle. Nothing government-wise is going to get done to solve our energy crisis until Congress makes it a priority to switch over our infrastructure to support new technologies. Toyota and etc. can research fuel cells all they want, but it's not gonna make a lick of a difference if things stay the same. Can't really use the cars when you can't fill them up, can you?

    The Cost of Oil.

Hydrogen. The problem is that those companies "aggressively researching it" isn't nearly enough. The government needs to subsidize it so that we can begin shifting our infrastructure over to accomodate it (i.e. creating hydrogen stations, etc.), and that's going to take quite a bit of time. The clock is ticking.

    The Cost of Oil.

Fission technology isn't worth the risk, but we're inexplicably and woefully behind Europe in nuclear fusion research. It's hard to believe we've let it slip through our fingers, but we have. Fusion will, hopefully, prove to be the method of choice for the future, provided we don't blackball it to continue propping up the oil industry.
