I thought all three Cubans looked good tonight (last night, really).

It's the revenge of the awful.

One to watch, again.

Today's presser was one of the best. Blogo's worse than James Michael Curley. This shit is like reading Shelley for political junkies.

Brett Favre makes them do that.

FNF is back tomorrow night with Yuriorkis Gamboa and Odanlier Solis.

Don't patronize me, Matt Young. You didn't even vote for me in the first round!

And they can't even get discounts at shoe stores.

When that time comes, I will have to argue with you. I am a big Larry Holmes fan.

Well I'll be damned.

Well, that can be said for all the weight divisions. Even when a weight class' championships get unified it is only for brief periods. But it doesn't change the fact that the guys scrapping over the title then were some of the worst ever (much like today). Imagine either Klitschko in a fight with Primo Carnera. In my opinion, starting with Louis' lengthy reign, heavyweight boxing stays gold like Ponyboy until our own present time.

Things got ugly between Tunney's retirement and the rise of Joe Louis. It was bad then as it is now. Joe Louis was one of ther best ever and, despite the 'Bum of the Month' club, fought and defeated several good opponents. Too bad he got a bit of a bad deal in the end. The demolition of Schmelling never gets old. He got a bad deal, too, as he was not a Nazi. It's a touch racket, kid.

Waffle House saved my life in Shelbyville (Confederate) Indiana.

I was going to put that on there but I didn't want to seem weird for remembering it.

Dr Venkman - I'm saddened that Dandy made it to this round. Not so much because I don't like Dandy, I do, but smitty is a dear friend and even voted for me over the mighty Kinetic. Whatever, though. Venkman wins. Incandenza - I thought of voting for EHME as he posts and votes and everything while Inc does none of these things really. As you can see, it didn't move beyond the thought. Byron the Bulb - You can win this bracket, Byron. And, from there, the world! Slayer - I must admit, I was geniunely touched when Slayer says he doesn't think as low of me as I think he does. That's votin' material right there. Snuffbox - Christ, didn't this happen last year? Or some year? I do well for a round then get totally fucking run over. Kinetic is a hell of a boarder. His only blunder was a short-lived attempt at a Stephen Colbert gimmick. Very unfortunate. I have to vote for myself because I would like to top five votes in this round. I know what the 1985 New England Patriots felt like. It hurts. Canadian Chris - I don't think I'll ever understand why Matt Young voted against me twice. We're old friends from way back. We were even going to go to Bonnaroo together back in '06 or something. I guess I was wrong. Bored - In the first round, I voted for Bored and for Mellow's opponent. I like to be consistent sometimes. Edwin - This was very easy. Edwin is getting a clear path through the tournament so far. KOAB - A crushing first round victory keeps KOAB on pace to, maybe, win the whole thing. Smues - I was surprised that Smues didnt vote for me in the first round. But I just dont really know Mattdotcom. Pbone - I really upset Kamala back in the day. Perhaps, one day, I will regain his trust but voting for him is not the appropriate way to do so. Agent - I like both of them. The tiebreaker came down to Al's bizarre attempt at explaining that the Milwaukee Brewers rotation is fine because there's plenty of free agents on the market. You're still good, though. Sensei - This is for the wonderful set-up recently in a CE thread that allowed me to rant on Barry Goldwater's vote against the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Treble - Better poster. 909 - He trumps Milky for the same reasons I voted for him in the first round. Milky's one of the best and maybe he can repeat some other year. VX - Next round will probably be more of a challenge for one of my favorite boarders.

That's exactly the problem. You can't take a "principled stand" against the federal govt in favor of granting the same wide power to a smaller govt. This is the the kind of problem that arises if somebody blindly follows a party or an individual; if they're wrong, they're wrong even if you happen to like them. Goldwater was absolutely wrong on this issue. But, to be fair (and accurate), he was absolutely not a racist.
-
Aw, thanks for the pity votes, friends! And, re: CIA nom, I get the torture angle and agree with the idea now.
-
Unfortunately, I wont have to have to make any statement to keep people from voting for me.
-
Except for his votes on certain Civil Rights Acts. Principled stand or not, he was still wrong. In lieu of the federal government mandating civil rights, the opposite would have still been in place under the dictate of the State. With the state still holding power anyway, it is important to err towards the side of freedom/liberty for all, not just towards those who share a physical resemblence to you.

You just can't drink right.
-
Didnt a really ugly man come out of the downstate woodwork about a hundred and fifty years ago? He did some good things in his day. Too bad that'll never happen again because nobody would want to drink a beer with Abraham Lincoln.

Gus Johnson (CBS) will replace Steve Albert on Showtime Championship Boxing this year.
-
Barry Goldwater was on the right side of this issue. That makes me happy.

The US Economy and Current Financial Crisis
snuffbox replied to Cheech Tremendous's topic in Current Events
It has been shown that Iraq has actually gone beyond 3 trillion in real cost. World War 2 passed even that. I think they're only taking congressional appropriation (during the wartime) expenditures into account. Fans of Bush Jr and McCain will struggle mightily with these facts, I realize, but war costs a lot more than just the checks for the bombs (effects on economy, money from other bodies and agencies, deficits, VA funds which increase as we stay in a country longer and have to use more and more troops, GI Bill, etc).
