Why is this (and her other exploits while still amongst the breathing) such a big story?

I wont be surprised if/when our Iraq bill tops $2 trillion. The recent report of over 12 billion dollars in cash disappearing into Iraq, a fact both acknowledged and unapologized for by those that did it, shows the utter lack of care this Administration has towards wasting unprecedented amounts of money. And yet people who mindlessly support this Republican policy look back on disapproval of the New Deal.

Shock/awe was a bombing mission whereas the succeeding years have been ground forces missions. Shock/awe lasted only a very short period of time and this 'slick/agile force' thing has lasted into its 4th calendar year. The Powell Doctrine (a philosphy very similar to how Barry Goldwater, a personal hero of General Powell, would have approached the Vietnam War had he been in Johnson's shoes...though that does not necessarily mean he would have invaded SE Asia) would have featured an overwhelming ground force as well as the overwhelming bombings. Don Rumsfeld, a man of negligible naval experience and none in actual combat, disagreed with General Powell's doctine and favored the infamous sleek/agile/small style. History, moving at a pace more rapid than is often seen, is already proving which philosophy is best. Amazingly enough the sleek/agile force favored by Rumsfeld should have presumabley saved some of our expenses. Unfortunately it now appears that the real estimates of $1.2 trillion may prove to be an UNDERESTIMATE & this will probably have cost far more than an overwhelming squash would have.

Pelosi swung back pretty hard on this airplane bullshit this morning. Could be another glaring embarrasment for the Pentagon and/or GOP.

The best part of Jon Tester's speech yesterday was his explanation of how the Bush Jr Admin has broken every facet of the 'Powell Doctrine' on warfare. Among the pieces of the Powell Doctrine is the usage of overwhelming force whenever war is actually needed. And here, not only was war not at all necessary, nothing faintly resembling overwhelming force has been employed.

I like Tom Waits. Unfortunately, his road manager said on a messageboard that he wont be at Bonnaroo.

Apparently the past 4 months have been the worst stretch of such time for American casualties in the entire Iraq War.

It doesn't sound to promising re: Tom Waits being there.

Would Terrell Owens to Dallas (Star incident) be a fitting analogy to Moss/Green Bay? There is precedent, and it could have positive consequences...but I'd still rather have Ginn than Moss.

The Romney family might just not be cut out for Presidential politics at all. It'll be a pretty bitter feeling for Mitt if Rudy Giuliani ends up with the nomination without bending over on the abortion question. Why is it so unbelievably dificult for a Republican to just say "I absolutely hate abortions but I don't feel that a woman's body is to be regulated by any government"?

If Roe/Wade were to ever be overturned the GOP would go the way of the Whigs. They're way too canny of politicians to ever do more than coddle the religious zealots. Even if there ends up being 9 GOP-nominated Justices it will still not be overturned. It is a disturbing wedge issue and, politically & realistically, little more. Of course, the GOP appears destined to take a HUGE plummet over the decade or so. Maybe they aren't as savvy as I think.

The 4 or 5 before today have been reported as being shot down, today's hasn't been reported as such. Presumabley some of the weaponry used to shoot the helicopters down have American origins.

I dont know. I think we could use another really good receiver to compliment Driver. We have Ferguson & Jennings, with a couple other guys that showed promise last season...but it seems like for a few years in a row now that at least one has gone down to injury. Walker in '05, Ferguson, Jennings for several games last year...another good pair of hands would be nice. Personally I'd much rather go for Ted Ginn in the draft than Randy Moss. Andre Rison & Terry Glenn have both enjoyed good comebacks as Green Bay receivers in the last decade but Moss would just seem kinda weird.

What's this about Moss?

We all know who the undisputed #1 all-time WR is. Beyond that leaves alot of room for debate...Brown, Harrison, Irvin, Largent, Monk, etc...what's everyone's top 5 or so? Where should Don Hutson rank? He practically invented the position & his records stood for decades but have obviously been dwarfed in the past couple decades.

Chris Arreola (18-0, 16 kos...last fight was a 7th round ko of 21-0 Damien Willa & he has one of the funniest last names in American sport) vs. Zakeem Graham (10-1-1, 7kos...the draw was his third fight, the loss was a 3rd round ko to Ruslan Chakaev that doesn't look as bad in retrospect but that was '03 and he has only one fight since...he's 36). 10 rounds. 909 - Let us know how Billy Dib looks Saturday night. He'll be fighting Carlos Contreras in a really big step up at super-feather off tv.
