Sadly, you're right. This was their only shot for the next couple of years at a national championship too. Last year's underacheiving team made this the do-or-die season, but they weren't given enough love in the preseason polls. If anything, the only revision I'd want in the BCS and polls and whatnot would be to not release a single poll until the first week of October.

For the second year in a row, the only team that the polls will be able to agree on is USC. Amazing. I don't think Auburn will kill Virginia Tech. Auburn's not a team that blows people out, even though they have the ability. Only SEC team I can really remember that consciously ran up the score was Spurrier-era Florida. It's just not how we play down here. If the Tigers want to make a statement and lay a claim to the national championship they'll probably have to annhilate Virginia Tech by 30 or something.
