  2. Addie Joss was given 10 years, because spring training had started when he died. Speaking of Joss. It's a true tragedy. Not only that he died at 29, but he had one of the best stretches of any pitcher in baseball history. Had he lived, his career numbers may have been among the best ever.
  3. Sorry but rag arm Johnny Damon doesn't deserve a Gold Glove.
  4. What's the point in firing Howe? The Mets aren't winning reguardless of who their manager is.
  5. The first polls should not be released until the first Monday in October. Give every team 3-4 games. Than rank them.
  6. While you can't look into the future. I think this will turn out to be a good trade on the Twins part. Justin Jones didn't have great numbers, but he's a hardthrowing 20 year lefty with great stuff. Plus, knowing Ryan and the scouting department's record. They've got a keen eye for minor league talent.
  7. The Twins AA affiliate is New Britian. The Giants is Norwich.
  8. No Twins prospect listed but that's fine. It's a stacked organization. Probably Top 5 in all of Baseball. Also of note. In most cases the true prospects are in this case Double AA. Triple AAA has alot of journeymen like Midre Cummings, and guys like Bucky Jacobsen who spend like 6 years in the minors.
  9. It seems like Rick Peterson's got himself an ego. No doubt, he's a good pitching coach. He's helped Glavine turn things around. However, how much does Oakland miss him? Mulder's the Cy Young favorite, when he was healthy Hudson was the league ERA leader, and Zito's been off but he had bad stretches when Peterson was pitching coach. Rich Harden also continues to improve start by start. Without the benefit of Peterson. Maybe, just maybe Oakland's starters are just really talented and knew how to pitch up to their abilities.
  10. Al you've said Ron Santo is the best player not in the HOF? Who do people like Bill James think is the best player not in the HOF? Oh, this doesn't include someone like Sandberg who's only been on the ballot 2 years.
  11. Carl Mays never makes it for one reason. Ray Chapman. How about a Keltner test on Joe Torre.
  12. The guys in Double AA. Petersen hardly worked with the guy. The size thing doesn't make a lot of sense, since Petersen worked with Tim Hudson who's doesn't have your typical pitchers size.
  13. John Kerry was in Vietnam? Cockburn and St.Claire sound like two porno names.
  14. If not the most memorable, one of the most memorable moments in the biggest game in United States Sports is only #41st.
  15. Don't start Abbott. He didn't sign him, but he decides who starts the game.
  16. Morgan's extremely partial to old teammates and players of the same era.
  17. Several Sources say the Pirates are asking the Twins for either Micheal Cuddyer or Jason Kubel. Kubel is not available, and Cuddyer will either be the Twins 2nd or 3rd basemen next year, he's also too valuable this year. Benson's not going to Minnesota. Twins won't mortage the future for a pitcher they won't re-sign.
  18. Sutter popularized the pitch, but by his own account he didn't invent it. I really think Ron Santo deserves the Hall. His career numbers are deserving when you account for the fact that he played during the second dead ball era. I've also heard an interesting case for Minnie Minoso, that he very likely would have HOF numbers if not for the color line (he debuted in 1949 at the age of 26). Did not know that. Minoso very likely? That's the problem. There's no guarantee Minoso would have had HOF numbers. The HOF should look at voting in more Negro League players. I can't believe they've found all the HOF worthy Negro league players. The easiest explanation for Sutter and Gossage. Gossage=Asshole.
  19. Dean Smith is overrated. A great recruiter. But, with the talent UNC should have more than 2 titles. Why is Smith is #1. and Bobby Bowden #21? Both have 2 championships. Both, had numerous Top 5 and Final Four and National Championship appearances. Both men were great recruiters, who often came up short in the big game. Bill Walsh is easily imo the best coach/manager of the last 25 years. The influence Walsh had on the NFL is still felt today. Plus, look at all the head coaches somehow connected to Walsh.
  20. I don't understand the Sutter love. He only pitched for twelve seasons, and he was above-average in eight of those. He had a great peak, but what separates him from other closers, such as Dan Quisenberry, Jeff Montgomery, or even John Franco? I'm not sure this new veterans' committee will elect anyone, quite honestly. They'll likely need to revamp the system in the near-future. I'm not sure why Sutter is so much more popular than Gossage. Maybe the creation of the split-finger fastball? Sutter's last year eligible is 2008. He'll probably have to wait for the veterans committee. I agree. I also don't think anyone listed on the veterans committe is really deserving. These are good players..guys like Tony Olivia could of been great but injuries happen. You can't vote by what might have been.
  21. Twins are an entirely different team with Shannon Stewart. A huge 10 game homestand. Boston, Anaheim, and Oakland. A 6-4 record would be nice. Joe Mauer is flying to Colorado for a 2nd opinion on his knee.
  22. Blyleven would have to get close to a 200 vote increase the next 2 years to make it in 2006. The media didn't like Blyleven, and they'll make him wait until his eligibility is almost up.
  23. Ted Lyons is in the Hall of Fame.
  24. Twins give Johan no run support. The game will be close. Without Thomas and Ordonez. Possibly for the remainder of the season. The Twins should win the division.
  25. Sandberg finished 71 votes short, Sutter 79. Sandberg had a huge jump in votes from his 1st and 2nd year. Sutter's been increasing his vote total year by year by about 35 votes. After 2007. 2008 and 2009 aren't very strong. Tim Raines being the only eligible who will be seriously considered. That could be when Blyleven, Dawson, Rice, Gossage, and Sutter if he's not in make their big push.
