Nebraska's RB tried to fight a LITTLE too long and got the ball knocked loose, which Southern Miss recovered at midfield. Southern Miss is now on the Nebraska 46 and is driving with 8 minutes left. *two seconds later* TOUCHDOWN THROW BY DUSTIN ALMOND! Southern Miss is up 21-17 and is about to attempt the PAT!
-
Southern Miss roared back with a TD off of an INT, but missed the 2-point conversion. They have the ball back in the 4th quarter and are down by two, 17-15.

Bored, what happens with Georgia now? Replaced by someone else or are they a "free win" for everyone for the rest of the season?
-
Nebraska has bounced back in the 3rd quarter and is now up 17-9.

Watching my alma mater, Southern Miss, taking on Nebraska on ABC. Southern Miss is up 9-3 right now at the half and I'd originally had them penciled in as my pick this week, but I decided to take the safe route and go with Nebraska. It still won't bite me in the ass because my opponent, as I figured, picked Nebraska as well.

Looks like everyone can agree that Choice #4 from my post yesterday is fully in effect...

Speaking of McAuliffe, he had some comments reported in the Washington Times in which he denies any DNC or Kerry camp involvement with CBS obtaining the records while quietly accusing Karl Rove of cooking up false documents to discredit the Kerry camp. http://www.washingtontimes.com/national/20...11417-2610r.htm The denial doesn't really surprise me, although the Rove comment DOES. He should know by now that accusing Rove of everything, ESPECIALLY something that could have blown up in the RNC's face, makes McAuliffe look like a goddamn idiot. Hell, a butterfly could flap its wings in China, cause a hurricane in the Atlantic, and he'd say it's all a part of mastermind Karl Rove's plan to swing the vote in Florida to Bush.

We're in the wrong part of the season for upsets IMHO... most early-season games are complete Rent-A-Wins against Southeastern North Dakota State or Sun Belt teams. Give it a week or two when we get to some ones without clear-cut winners like Maryland vs. West Virginia and Florida vs. Tennessee or some potential sleeper games like Cal vs. Southern Miss, TCU vs. Texas Tech, and Arizona vs. Wisconsin.

... MAN... If Miami scores on this upcoming series, Rix won't be able to show his face in Tallahassee for a while. Fumbling a ball in OT is about a 99% assurance that you'll lose the game because you don't put ANY points on the table.
-
Having to depend on Chris Rix and Xavier Beitia?? I'd say 3,000,000-1 Rix is the bigger question. Beitia is only a factor past OT number one if he attempts a FG, as there are no kicking PATs after the first OT.

That was a hell of a throw by Berlin... Too bad that Florida State intercepted it.

I need to scan and post the old Bloom County strips lampooning the Hitler Diaries hoax... In the strips, "anonymous journalist" Milo Bloom sells obviously forged Elvis Diaries to a major news organization. Everyone claims they're authentic until a major news report hits the air- "Document experts have examined the twenty-year old documents and determined the following fact: They're written on official Dukes Of Hazzard stationary."

I seriously doubt that a Republican, even Karl Rove (whose name seems synonymous with "Satan" when mentioned by many liberals), would leak something like this on the off chance that no one actually noticeed that they were fakes. That being said, the burden of proof is STILL on CBS to prove that the documents are legit since they're impuning the reputation of a sitting president. If they couldn't verify they were real and accurate, they shouldn't have run them. An institute of journalism such as CBS should have known better.
-
I'd tend to agree. While Brock can't play for shit when he's under pressure, he sure looked like Superman on that last drive, passing the length of the field in a quick drive.
-
If Miami and Florida State don't start putting up TDs quickly, this tiebreaker will go to the low man in each matchup. There's 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter and the score is 10-0 Florida State.

I'm going with 3 and 4 considering that people told CBS that the documents were of questionable authenticity and they ran with the story anyway. Specifically, the wife and son of the dead officer told CBS that they doubted the documents were real and gave them names of people who worked with the man and would be able to examine the documents for authenticity. According to the son, none of those people were ever contacted and CBS didn't acknowledge that they interviewed people who doubted the papers' authenticity. If all of the above is true, it starts to destroy the image that Dan Rather and CBS News are JOURNALISTS and not talking heads on TV. A journalist is supposed to verify the authenticity of information they are given and CBS appears to have gone forward despite legitimate doubts that the papers were authentic.

The way Rather is sticking to his position tells me one of several things is true: 1. The documents are true, despite all of the concerns about their legitimacy. 2. Dan Rather and company did NOT research the story properly 3. They researched the story and, despite any doubts, went forward with it because of the source who provided them OR 4. Dan is so vain and arrogant that, if the documents are proven to be total forgeries, his ego won't allow him to fall on his sword and admit he got duped. I'm leaning towards a combination of 3 and 4 personally, as I think that Rather took these documents on the strength of the source, despite any possible issues with the documents, and that his ego won't let him admit that he's probably been duped. I'm wondering who this source is because, depending on who they are, it could explain a LOT about where these documents seem to have appeared from.

Considering the team they'd be replacing, Baylor, is one of the worst Division I teams in a BCS conference (right up there with Duke and Vanderbilt), they'd still be a step up. TCU probably couldn't beat Oklahoma anytime in the next 10 years, but they'd have a decent shot at beating Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma State from the South and Kansas, Iowa State, and Missouri from the North. Arkansas could probably beat 8 of the 11 other teams in the Big 12 every year. Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas State would be the big question marks.
-
I don't see the Big 12 taking TCU, if only due to snobbishness by Texas, Texas Tech, and Texas A&M because they left TCU in the dust when they left the Southwest Conference. I could see Arkansas being invited to replace Baylor but there are some hard feelings between them and some of the Texas teams as well.

Popick's full name is Stephen Joseph Popick, who is user "Stephen Joseph" on the board. AFAIK, he works for the US Gov't as an economist.

Programmer for a state's Department of Revenue, mainly involved with getting the current system switched over to the new system and creating reports to represent the amount of money collected, total sales within the state, etc. I generate data from which I ferret out specific information that the department's highest levels of management use with the state Legislature to influence new tax laws and I'm also heavily involved with reporting our department's handling of billions of dollars in collections. That isn't in Popick's league when it comes to national-level economics but I know a shitload about various taxes including Individual Income, General Sales, Withholding, and others, including effects on the state level caused by changes in Federal tax rules. I also have a business degree that included a lot of economics (Micro, Macro, AND International) as well as a sizable background in history due to my minor, specifically in military history including World War II and the Vietnam War. I've had graduate-level courses in military tactics and history taught by military officers from the Royal Military College at Sandhurst as well as doing in-depth research for scholarly papers on previous military operations.

Be careful what you wish for... Next time, I may interpret that as "Give me two behind the ear."

Kerry may not be dead if he doesn't get Pennsylvania and Ohio... However, if he doesn't get Florida, it appears he's completely fucked. The way the numbers are breaking down right now, Kerry needs Florida in addition to all the electoral votes he has right now to get the 270 needed for a majority. That's assuming that Kerry doesn't lose Iowa or Wisconsin to Bush and that Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Missouri break for Bush as they appear to be right now.
-
Heh... NO ONE picked Troy State, myself included, so no one gets the point for that game. Also, anyone who picked 256 yards as Brad Smith's all-purpose yardage gets tiebreaker #2 this week.

I spent the first 3 months of my senior year on crutches because of a football injury... My junior year was a LOT more enjoyable than my senior one, although the above experience DOES color that a bit.
