  1. Once we're done in Afghanistan, I think our Special Forces troops may need to help out the Russians... The fact that half of the terrorists appear to be Arabs lends itself to Putin's argument that the Chechen rebellion is partly due to foreign interference instead of being a pure civil war between the Russians and the Chechens.
  2. Actually, airfare is covered from what I understand. That goes back to the expansion days in the 1980s when Vince would give the guys a big packet full of airline tickets every so often so they could fly across the entire country for him. Hotels aren't covered except for maybe Wrestlemania weekend and health care is mainly limited to work-related injuries like Benoit's neck.
  3. Something tells me that they got this idea from someone around in the old Mid South days... like Jim Ross. In Mid-South, everyone was on the road probably 90% of the time when they weren't wrestling due to the geography of the territory and the unusual schedule that Bill Watts had them on. In addition to that, the guys were expected to dress nice when they arrived at the towns. Mid-South's travel schedule was MUCH worse than the current WWE one because they drove everywhere and most of the scheduled towns were on the opposite ends of the territory from each other. You could start in Alexandria, LA (central Louisiana), do double-shots in Tulsa and Oklahoma City the next day, go to New Orleans the day after that, Shreveport, LA (northwest corner of Louisiana) after that, etc. It was NOT a pretty schedule by any means. At least the WWE guys fly into one major city and work a string of cities all in the same general area (Fly into Dallas then work Dallas, Houston, Beaumont, Lafayette and New Orleans before flying out of New Orleans). As for the actual dress code, they just need to wear a fucking pair of khakis and a button-down shirt and be done with it. I hated it before I had to start working but now I can live with it as long as I don't wear a tie every day. It is not THAT uncomfortable if you have clothes in your size.
  4. While this is probably true, wouldn't he have been responsible for the E calling up DAVE and Lesnar then? Everyone was high on Lesnar, so he was getting called up no matter what. A guy getting paid what Lesnar was (roughly $250,000 a year) to train would only be in OVW for so long before making the main roster. As for Batista, he was considered one of the bigger stars in OVW, so it wasn't a surprise to see him come up. Knowing OVW like I do, it doesn't surprise me that Rico, Lesnar, Benjamin, Batista (then known as Leviathon), Cena (Prototype), or others getting called up. It surprises me a LOT more to see obviously green guys like a Matt Morgan, Travis Bane (Tyson Tomko), Seven (Mordecai), etc. all get called up. Then again, these ARE the guys who took Horshu, who was a surprisingly good promo guy in OVW who couldn't wrestle worth a shit, and turned him into Angle's bodyguard, a position that requires NO talking and a lot of action.
  5. Pritchard being in charge of the developmental territories is probably one of the biggest reason why we're seeing a bunch of Matt Morgans, Mordecais, Tyson Tomkos, and other generic big guys getting brought up from OVW before they're ready. Pritchard is a very old-school Memphis and Mid-South kind of guy, so he doesn't have much use for many of the smaller talents today like a Rey Misterio. Dreamer's time in OVW proved he has a decent knowledge of how to develop talent, as he Paul E's lieutenant after Raven left and was a big part in Steve Corino, Nova, and others becoming big names in ECW.
  6. Depends on the polls. Even if Utah is #1 across the board in the computer rankings, they'll still get penalized because 66% of the BCS rankings now come from the AP poll and the Coaches' poll, and those are ALWAYS biased against mid-major teams.
  7. I used to hate A&M more than anyone else but, after seeing the past few years, I just pity them now. They really didn't transition well from the Southwest Conference to the Big 12, as they're sliding to the point where they're the #4 team in Texas behind Texas, Texas Tech, and TCU. Considering that Dennis Francione isn't showing any signs of bringing life back to the program, things don't look good for them.
  8. I'm going to be on hand for LSU vs. Oregon State and the general consensus here is that LSU will win handily. Everyone here respects Oregon State but LSU has a LOT of talent and the only sore spot on the roster right now is that Marcus Randall hasn't started a game in a year and a half. (Randall started half the games in 2002 after Matt Mauck broke his leg against Florida, then went back to mop-up QB once Mauck was healthy in 2003)
  9. Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out, Zsasz.
  10. I don't know about the Matthew show incident, as I think too few people will even hear about it....or even if they did, they won't think that much about it. What will destroy the Dems, as you say? If more police get seriously injured by protesters. Cause one did last night. If that happens a couple more times, it's going to be very bad for them. Besides that, the other way to get a bunch of bad press would be for the protestors to pick a fight with the cops in front of cameras. I'd think the Superfecta of bad luck for the Dems would be if the protestors surrounding Fox News attacked the cops keeping them away from the building.

    Over/Under on Vick

Under... I'd say 4-5 games before he goes out. The fact that he's a scrambler leaves him open to taking HUGE hits while fighting for yardage.
  12. Teke's Tigers 1. QB Donovan McNabb 2. WR Amani Toomer 3. WR Larry Fitzgerald 4. WR Marty Booker 5. RB Dominick Davis 6. RB Corey Dillon 7. TE Boo Williams 8. K Adam Vinatieri 9. DEF Tampa Bay 10. Backup- RB Steven Jackson 11. Backup- QB Ben Roethlisberger 12. Backup- WR Reggie Williams 13. Backup- TE Bubba Franks 14. Backup- K Sebastian Janikowski 15. Backup- DEF Pittsburgh Compared to my squads of years past, this looks like one that will bring me to the top-tier playoffs this year (top 4 spots). McNabb, Toomer, Davis, Booker, Williams, and Vinatieri are all excellent picks IMHO.
  13. I only included the above post in this after I realized it was separate from the other one, so that there were no loopholes about injury glorification. The message itself was a cut-and-paste from the other thread where I clearly spelled out the rules on the subject. I'm going to close this thread by request now but, if you decide to be a smartass again on the subject of moderation duties, you WILL be subject to having your membership privelages changed to "Whiny Bitch Forum only" temporarily.
  14. This is repeated from the other Edge thread, but I felt it was necessary to do so. NO more gloating about the injury putting Edge out. If I come back and see more of it, I'm closing the thread. If people take the gloating to another thread after I've closed this one, I'll change their member status to "Banned from the WWE folder" indefinitely. It's currently 4:00 Central Standard Time on 8/29/04. Any comments made after this point are fair game, understand?

  16. Dama and Spaceman Spiff both had 275, which are the closest guesses I've seen so far.
  17. The tiebreaker for Leinart's passing yards is 270, according to www.FoxSports.com. I think that a LOT of people, myself included, went for 300+ on our guesses.
  18. And THAT is the game, as Randall fumbles the ball during a sack and USC recovers with about 2:00 left.
  19. Bush is good, no question, but Virginia Tech IS a shadow of their former selves. Losing several players indefinitely for conduct reasons, Marcus Vick being #1 with a bullet, certainly didn't help. That being said, Oregon State is the only team besides Cal that has a prayer against USC the way things look right now.
  20. SHIT! Leinart to Bush for another 6. PAT good. USC 21, V-Tech 13
  21. Man, THAT was a chokehold that Jimmy Williams slapped onto Reggie Bush for the stop. Not exactly kosher, but it worked.
  22. Paging Josh Booty... Your prima-donna ass is going to be needed in Buffalo again as a tackling dummy.
  23. V-Tech puts 3 on the board with 8:00 left in the game. USC 14, V-Tech 13 Don't be surprised to see an onside kick from V-Tech if they have any confidence in their kicker.
  24. Man, that personal foul was just fucking stupid... USC's players have turned into Ohio State's players so quickly it isn't funny.
  25. Heh... that was BLATANT pass interference right there. V-Tech gets a fresh set of downs.
