Remember also that Freddy had a wife and young daughter during that time, so there's plenty to work with there. I think maybe if the focus is kept more on Fred Krueger the man, his family and history, and not so much on the actual crimes, I'd be happier with it. As for the transformation, there was a whole arrest, trial and eventual release we've never seen, that can serve as the climax and the burning can be more of an epilogue.

Yes, fearing Freddy is a good thing for film, but Freddy has become more than a movie character by now. We've already got at least 6 movies of the funny Freddy. I grew up with that Freddy and I like him. Maybe I'm in the minority there. If there's a way to split the difference, then I'm all for it.

But it might ruin Freddy. People love him, but if we spend 90 minutes watching the guy, sans make up and powers, butchering children (and god knows what else), will that still be possible?

I had no problem with her. I wouldn't bitch about anything in that movie. I swear, it's probably in my top 5 of all time. But I have odd tastes.
