  1. I unlocked the unlockables so far on Final Fight and SFII. The bio seems to be the same but Art section seems to be different, but there's stuff that wasn't on SFC2, like concept art for characters that didn't make it into the game, earlier designs for Vega, etc. There are bios for every single FF character, including enemies. As of now it appears Capcom USA's stance on Roxy/Poison is that Roxy's a woman and Poison's still a guy. Heh.
  2. I was IMing a friend about the situation, and the topic game up..."Whatever happened to Data East?" I did a little research, and found out. They weren't bad enough dudes to rescue themselves from bankrupcy. They lasted until 2003?!??! Wow. That's a somewhat sad tale. Well, somewhat, but not really. They did have some decent arcade titles here and there. Square Enix dragging the SD license back out and probably desecrating it with their utter incompetence sounds more likely than them blessing us with a well-crafted followup.
  3. Well, everyone knows of Elevator Action and Operation Wolf, and Rastan to a lesser extent. Most of the stuff on the Japanese compilations make me draw a blank, though. Double Dragon Advance is better than the arcade version, but trying to play 2P on it is a real pain in the BUTT, unfortunately. Konami has totally missed the boat on compilations, though. They've got a Castlevania and Contra compilation...for PC, that's like really old and I dont' think it's compatible with computers beyond Win98, and they're strictly NES games. Aside from that, they have some rather skimpy GBA collections of the ancient stuff, but that's about it. I'm betting if Igarashi has his say we'll get a CV compilation, but it would need to include Rondo of Blood or there will be some very disappointed fans. Now would be a good time to jump on the bandwagon, with them having the TMNT rights, but it seems like they'd prefer to use it as unlock bonuses on the newer games. Nobody seems to own *exclusive* rights to release Marvel games, but likely Capcom would have to pay to use those characters. EA has exclusive rights to use those characters in online games, though. However, if Capcom could give Marvel a chunk of the change, I'd be willing to get a compilation with all of the Capcom Marvel games (or most), which amounts to a heck of a lot.
  4. "However, thanks to a fuck up with the duplication, the disc will only play back on PCs (not standalone DVD players or even PCs, for some bizarre reason" By that second PC do you mean gaming systems--ie PS2 or X-Box DVD players?
  5. Since I wasn't a gamer until the 90's, I'm not the one to ask about obscure 20+ year old arcade games, I'm afraid. Jeremy Parish did a blog entry on Taito Memories 1, which includes some of the games. http://toastyfrog.1up.com/do/my1Up?publicU...pager.offset=30 Taito Legends includes a few of the games from Taito Memories 1 and 2, but also ones not featured on either. So, if it sells well, there's plenty of material for a huge followup. Also, the side of the box says that the full title is "Capcom Classics Collection Volume 1." There is a trailer for the PSP version, which includes games that may be in the console Vol. 2. Included in the trailer, but not in the console version are: Avengers Strider Magic Sword Captain Commando Speed Rumbler Willow Last Duel Black Dragon Block Block Quiz & Dragons Mega Twins (Chiki Chiki Boys ) Those and the console "volume 1" indicates that apparently a followup is in the works, but the sheer number of licensed titles Capcom made cuts down the possible list by quite a bit. I suppose they could throw SF1 into one of them, though. I'm surprised Willow is going to be on there... Although hopefully they don't end up with a lackluster "leftover" collection, featuring a few games that are rare but not really warranting a purchase by themselves. See: MAT3, Namco's 50th, to a certain extent Sonic Gems and definitely its rumored followup. EDIT: Oh, and I may very well be wrong about Capcom Classics Collection's SFs--you can unlock "Art 1","Art 2" "Tips" and "Cast" (and "Music for Hyper Fighting) for each game. So it *may* have all of the hidden material from SFC2 on there as well.
  6. Incidentally, the cross-game matching and remixed soundtracks are included for the SF2s. However, the art/bios/hints are still exclusive to the SFCollection2/Generations version. Okay, I know what some folks are thinking. "Taito...they made Bubble Bobble/Bust a Move...and...what?" See: Taito Legends, which is getting a US release thanks to Sega. http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/09/13/news_6133138.html Capcom's raised the bar for compilations, but still well worth 20 bucks, IMO.
  7. After getting over the novelty of having the arcade ROM of Final Fight available to play and SF2/CE/T available, I'm playing some of the other games in the collection. Trojan is a blast.
  8. I used R2 but no dice. Of course, he's dizzy for about 1.76 seconds so maybe I just missed the window before getting impaled through the chest again.
  9. Gotcha, so sounds about right. I picked up the Capcom Classics Collection, which shockingly enough is indeed $19.99. Piledriving Roxy as I type this. Guilty Gear Dust Strikers uses both screens, so I don't see why not. Plus you can do up to 4 player simultaneous with supposedly no slowdown (at least in preview versions).
  10. How do you impale Baraka with the sword?
  11. Controlwise I'm not surprised M64DS couldn't quite pull it off, but Smash Bros uses a simple control scheme and surely the DS could handle the graphics (powerwise its supposed to be equal or better than N64, although resolution may still suffer because of the small screen), so why not? Ripper: What games do you have for GC that you were planning to trade in? You could probably get a better deal from people on here than some trade-in place.
  12. I've just taken out Reptile and got the Wall Climb ability. How far I got to go?
  13. full-text: http://ultimatewarrior.com/09.27.05DVDII.htm "And that son-in-law of yours, what a piece of work he is. But you know this already, he’s cut from the same placid, impotent mold as you. I’m the most unprofessional person you’ve ever stepped into the ring with? Well, now, ain’t that pretty. Because what I remember, Mr. Stephanie McMahon, is that you were only in the ring with me one time -- and for less than 5 minutes. Here all these years since leaving the ring and becoming interested in mentoring young people, I often wonder what kind of impact I am having because I take it seriously and it is important to me do it effectively. Well, it sure sounds like I taught you very well in the 5 minutes you had in the ring with me. Because from what I hear you are the biggest unprofessional asshole the business has ever seen. You are welcome." "Well, now, I’ve gone and done it again. Damn if I haven’t. This delusional, insane, dumb, muscle-headed former wrestler has scrawled another classic masterpiece." Agreed.
  14. Warrior's rebuttal about the DVD situation: http://ultimatewarrior.com/09.27.05DVDII.htm Funny stuff, even though I don't know/care how much of it is actually true.
  15. Try using both analog sticks, and pushing in the same direction at the same time with them. There is nothing wrong with the controls. Maybe the demo unit at your EB had a worn-out controller or something. The game's gotten critical acclaim because of the quicky sense of humor, great music, simple but addictive controls and it combines innovative play mechanics with old school goal-based gameplay (not just clearing the stage, but beating your own best time/size). If you set out to just "beat" it, it's a short game, but perfecting your skill can take a long, long time.
  16. Interesting, especially if they fix some bugs.
  17. I haven't done it myself yet, because I hoped to do better but it says "load constellation data" in the manual. Whether that includes the individual stars as well I'm not certain. My North Star is still too big and my Ursa Major is made from a measly Bear Man. Oh, and the cutscenes are even better. All things considered, the King of All Cosmos is a heck of a nice guy considering how he was raised. The KD music still tops WLK, IMO. Although co-op is amazing fun and versus is drastically improved.
  18. ^ Awesome vid. Still my favorite of the MK fighters. I've done some of those combos but some of those sicker ones I haven't tried. Some of them don't look to be possible in the final revision/home versions, though. What would you say? Surely those multiple roundhouse ones were fixed, anyway. Megadeth's "Symphony of Destruction" set to it also kicks. What's the song after it? I'm taking a wild guess and say it's Rammstein. EDIT: Okay--credits explained that. Was loading rather slow for me.
  19. Pinning down release dates has been awful lately. You've got rumored pushbacks for like a half dozen good games, Gamestop and EB release dates are conflicting, GameFAQs is inaccurate as ever, and I still have no friggin' clue if Kingdom Hearts 2 is actually coming out this year. Some magazines have said the PSP version is supposed to come out first, but many release lists show it as December.
  20. I know I'm not the only one here who owns KD and picked up WLK, so whether you have the import and beat it months ago, or just picked up a KD game for the first time, this'll be where to share it. Probably to be buried by some sports game thread, but I'll still give it a shot. Anyway--for anyone who has imported their KD data to WLK, does it really matter how well you performed in the original game's challenges? I did alright, I think, but my performance on the constellation challenges (particularly the annoying Taurus and Ursa Major ones--where you can roll up a carton of milk accidentally and end up having to start over area) leaves much to be desired. Is it only for the "Roll Up the Sun" challenge? Is there a domestic release for the KD soundtrack? Also--wow, the PSP My My Katamari looks lousy. Although at least it appears to be actually in existence, with the DS version apparently just a stubborn rumor at this point.
  21. I'm pretty much in the same camp. Although DD leans more towards Simpsons humor than classic LT humor. The Samurai Jack parody was killer. And I also suspect the ratings were high because of the percieved trainwreck factor.
  22. Stuff like Mighty Jack, the Coleman Francis 3, MAGG and Neptune Men are an utter chore to watch at first. Almost nobody can really love them on the first try. Then, the utter bleakness of everything in the films somehow fades into the background, and the quality of the rifts shine. So while I never would recommend trying to watch an un-MSTed Neptune Men, about the 3rd viewing or so can begin to win you over. Plus, I think every Japan-obsessed otaku needs to watch it, because of the relentless skewing of Japanese culture. Can you believe that they CUT stock footage from the bombing scenes? Yes, that was originally longer, and more violent and depressing portions--taken from actual WW2 bombing footage--were present in the original. "Featuring...SPEED RACER, SHONEN KNIFE, SAILOR MOON!" "He was trained by Bruce Lee...bowitz." "Wispy Chickenheaded Bachelor" "These kids are like, 10, so... yeah, they're well out of college..." "They should be at their jobs right now." "Scientists labor around the clock to find out what the hell is the deal with Japan." "Has anyone seen my record?" "It's smaller than us--we can torment it!" *dramatic zoom in* "My head is a koosh ball!" "Humiliating game shows are beamed across the country." "Grampa tries to set his VCR..." *sings* "Spaaace chief failed miiiseraably, and tried to coover up his shaaame.." "Due to the apocalypse, cram school will be delayed by 45 minutes this morning." "Space Chief should really try going up*into space* sometime. "Yeah, he's more like Lower Atmosphere Chief." "Barely Off the Stupid Ground Chief." It's pretty funny to see Sonny Chiba punching and kicking so weakly, as well...considering...
  23. While you know of its existence, there is Policenauts. But, baby steps here; when Snatcher comes out on a system that's not either unknown to most US gamers or a system upgrade usually mentioned today only to note Sega's many bouts of utter incompetence, then lets hope for a sequel.
  24. Track of the Moon Beast is awesome, but it's one of those episodes that, if you haven't seen it in a while, are easy to get mixed up with about half a dozen other entries featured on the show. Track, Werewolf, and It Lives by Night...it's easy to get scenes mixed up in there. However, the makers of Werewolf had to know how much their movie sucked and weren't taking it seriously. Come on--the turning off the radio scene? Driving Under Lycantropy? The casting of Joe Estevez? Many people also mix up Prince of Space with Invasion of the Neptune Men. I can kind of see it, although the former is a cornocopia of bad dialogue, bad dubbing, bad costumes, bad sets and effects, and shrill children. Although, at least the Prince is rather easily definined as the hero of the pic, with the shrill children bordering on tolerable at times. The same can't be said about the children in Neptune Men, who are basically your *stars*. Almost every single scene puts the focus on the unlikable, indistinguishable brats. Neptune Men also has an utterly depressing pace, flat out boring dubbing and dialogue, costumes that make you say "eh", and has a hero that's actually more dull than Prince, despite in theory being easier to kill. When you're watching the Mobian Strip of an air battle that is supposed to be some sort of climax, you end up so drained of enthusiasm even with the MiSTing that the appearance of Krankor really does seem like the breath of fresh air that the crew acts like he is.
