  1. Probably, but that could just mean he's not a Calvinist.
  2. What happened in the first half hour of Raw that I missed?
  3. Hopefully HHH will quote a metal god, to follow up his Ozzy Classic paraphrase a while ago ("that belt is my religion and my law!").
  4. The games were copied and the ROMs compiled in a device, and all of the individual companies that hold the copyrights to the games are, I believe, not giving their approval to the process? I don't think the mall operators are wise to the fact that these are illegal. They probably see a bunch of old games being played on it, and think it's either an official device, or the games are old so maybe the copyrights are expired. Plus, there are similar official products also being sold in stores, so the confusion to non-gamers is understandable.
  5. They need to announce the JL box set--we've got two seasons of the old series out already, right? Come on and make with it instead of Super Friends.
  6. Meh. Without a Paddle is just a harmless, dumb comedy (and it knows it), while Exorcist is a boring piece of shit that was in development for over five years. Not really--the "real" Exorcist: the Beginning has already been made. It's going to be released on DVD either with or at the same time as the current version. The original version wasn't liked by WB because it was more psychological instead of a brainless gorefest, so they hated it. You can read about the production history here: http://www.laweekly.com/ink/04/38/features-foundas.php
  7. 18 million--good, glad that shitty Exorcist bastardization did so poorly. Hopefully the lack of reviews and word of mouth warnings helped. Although it may have been the lack of commercials for it. Lucky you, I couldn't get away from WAP ads.
  8. I posted a thread about the same device a while back. It would be worth the money if it didn't suck so badly. I'd prefer Nintendo make a device like this instead of releasing the NES Classics line.
  9. The wedding has potential to be the Greatest Unintentional Comedy Moment of the Year.
  10. *wonders just how many people who voted for the Ninja Gaiden series actually ever played any of the earlier games.* Then again, I'm not good enough at the game to unlock the old ones hidden in there, so maybe that's presumptuous of me to ask.
  11. "Statements: It wasn't Shawn's fault for being a low drawing champion in '96, I mean who wanted to see the New Rockers, Aldo Montoya, and Duke 'The Dumpster" Drose." Rebuttal: Shawn was a lousy babyface, and his comeback sob-stories were such transparent bull**** that even the fans could see through it. Sid was cheered like gangbusters against the little biznatch. (I think that was 96, anyway). That was part of the problem, but he's not free of blame. For all of their influence the Klique wanted to help themselves, not the WWF, or they would have slapped some sense into Vince.
  12. "If there's one thing we learned this year, it's that good wrestling and decent booking can get somebody over (see Benoit, Chris). " Rebuttal: And then can be undone easily by lousy booking with makes the champ an afterthought on the show and makes him merely a bit player in the major storylines. Jackie wasn't fired, and Terri I think was quietly given her release on good terms.
  13. Rebuttal: Cena may be stale to us, but crowds still love him. If he injects a little more vitality into his character and gets a more high-profile angle, he's money. Statement: Smackdown right now is even more boring and uneventful than it was right after the split, prior to the SD6 era.
  14. I guess the old thread is dead. Ah well. Last week's, and FTMWHE were odd, since they could have easily and more sensibly been regular JL episodes. It seemed unusual that in last weeks ep the other JLU members didn't seem to know or care what was going on down on earth. Sure, maybe they couldn't have done much, but still... Still, it was a cute ep but had some good serious bits to it. All of the characters seemed to not only just get younger, but to act just like they would have as kids, except for Batman. WW seemed to get a maternal streak in her that you didn't normally see--probably from caring for her "sisters" at the time. Superman seemed like the dopey bumpkin Clark. Stewart was hilarious as a geeky spaznoid, and nice tribute there with the "glasses" he wore. Bats was basically exactly the same. While it was goofy at times for sure, the ending was much more dark and caught you off guard. Hawk and Dove was of course much more like the first episode--introducing the other heroes, using them to try to intercede and calm a human conflict where they were completely unwelcome. Some obvious political messages were woven in there, but not overbearing, preachy, or favoring one side completely. Very well done, and it's nice to see that the episodes are going to have a good bit of variety to them rather than using the same formula every episode. The original League members are still going to be the real stars though, apparently. Oh--and Wonder Woman has the invisible jet now! However, she can still fly, so basically it appears she only needs it for traveling more quickly or if she needs to transport other League members. She doesn't have super-speed like Supes, after all. Shame they spoiled it in all the teasers, but it's about time somebody mocked that stupid criminal tendency to fire all the bullets at a superhero, THEN try to throw the gun at him/her.
  15. EDII is somewhere between a remake and a sequel to the first ED. Most of the same plot points occur in EDII that occur in ED, but many are altered, some stuff is axed, and plenty of new stuff is spliced in. While ED was more of a serious, generic hack-and-slash horror film, ED has plenty of black comedy mixed in. It's hard for me to really get much of a kick out of the first ED without commentary, but it's interesting on it's own level as a very well-made flick for such little money, and there are a lot of tributes/twists of horror movie conventions.
  16. Like Mindless Aggression said, it's not terrible, but it's not good. Basically, it's a competently put-together film, but I couldn't find myself caring about the characters at all, the level of action is low, there's little direction to the plot, and little things strike you as stupid or just goofy here and there (like a useless bullet-time effect here and there, even if it's a bullet that actually does nothing). The CGI Licker also looks really fake, but most CGI is like that. I wish more movies would whip out the karo syrup and foam rubber, because they're far more realistic to my eyes. However, both MK and RE are worlds better than that flaming bag of crap AVP. That isn't the problem with Hulk, IMO. Hulk =
  17. First and foremost, I'm not here to argue, I'm just stating what I do know, so don't flame me. Why would I? Defensive lately? Hmm--that's very strange, because it plays some fairly scratched up PS2 and PS1 games just fine. Maybe it would be wisest to keep playing the PS2 a bit longer and make sure that it's still working perfectly for games. Also, yeah, maybe it's something inside the lens that causes it to react like that, but just telling what I know from experience. I had heard that it uses a different lens from an EB employee, so maybe he was incorrect or he misunderstood how it worked. So I won't flame you, because you probably helped me out a lot there. Methinks you've had situations like that, though. Sure, I'd give that a shot, but it's unlikely. Just checked it out--most prices are substantially higher than that. No Game Crazy around here--and all the stores around here have the DVD Playback Kit for $29.99. No third parties either, although maybe I'll check Game Stop next time in I'm in the Pittsburgh area. It voids my warranty? LOL. Manufacturer's warranty is only 90 days, and I got my X-Box used for 80 bucks up CD Warehouse. However, a decent 3rd party manufacturer usually has a guarantee on their devices that they'll repair or replace anything their accessories damage free of cost. Of course, with almost all of those accessories, they and Microsoft/Sony/etc. know it's bullshit, but it will let them squeak out of liability if some one is stupid enough to say they've used a third party accessory.
  18. Hey, for completion's sake. I haven't played it though, so maybe it actually could be considered part of the Shinobi series. I bumped Eidos' "Ninja" since I've never played it, never heard of anyone who played it, nobody remembers it, nobody sings its praises, and it's from the European version of Acclaim, so it probably sucks anyway. It's okay--although it may not matter much in the final result anyway. Excellent nominations, Anya.
  19. Is it just at my Wal Mart, or is it actually a real "bin" everywhere? At my Wal Mart, it's a big cage-like bin with the titles just randomly tossed in there, piled up from the floor level to about my belly-button. There's no way they inventory this crap, and they don't even seem to care if it sells. Value City's bargain rack blows away Wal-Fart's, at least where I live. Manchurian Candidate, Raging Bull, Of Mice and Men, The Princess Bride, Blue Velvet, A Shot in the Dark--found them all at the DVD rack in Value City, for $7.99. Yeah, they have lots of junk there too, like those dollar-store knock-offs of Disney features (except they look absolutely terrible), but the quality to quantity ratio is much higher.
  20. I'm glad some one made this topic. The DVD lens in my PS2 is burnt out, but I can still play games. Yes, there's actually two different lenses, and I didn't know that. However, this leaves me without a DVD player at all, so I've been considering my options... 1. Get the PS2 fixed--which is financially the stupidest decision since I'd have to send it back to Sony, and with shipping and repair costs factored in, it's more sensible to trade it in and get a working one. 2. Get a stand-alone DVD player. Fairly decent prices are available on the stand alones. I'm interested in the best value. I don't care about playing MP3s, DVD-Rs or VCDs or anything like that. I just want to play DVDs. I don't have a high-def TV, I don't need special stereo features. I just want a machine that plays DVDs and won't crap out after the warranty expires. That's all. 3. Get a DVD/VHS combo. Since I still own and use a VCR, this would be a good idea. Plus, I could give my sis the old VCR, which still works fine. Since I just have enough space for all my current consoles and VCR to be hooked up, that's a practical idea. However, it's going to cost more than a regular DVD player. 4. Get an X-Box DVD playback kit. One thing about the X-Box that pisses me off (okay, with the controller and size, 3 things) is that it *has* a DVD player that works, but it only works with a remote. "DVD Playback Kit" just is a nice name for "DVD remote and connector you HAVE to use to play DVDs, sucker!" If it didn't cost 30 dollars, I'd go for it. However, I hear that unlike the PS2, it doesn't have a separate lense for DVDs, so I don't know if this is the wisest option, since that could mean I'd burn out the console sooner. Are there 3rd party ones available? I haven't seen them anywhere. For something like 20 bucks I'd go for it at least for a temporary solution. I guess I could see if anyone is offering them online used on Ebay or something. So if anyone has advice, personal experiences, etc they can add to help me out, it'd be appreciated. Scroby: Like you. I've had the PS2 for 3 years and the DVD lens lasted pretty long. Since you've played games and DVDs on the Box, how long has it been so far that you've had it like that?
  21. "Back to the Future, however, not only holds up as a cohesive story, but also stands the test of time. Which is amazing for any movie released in 1985." Save for the jokes such as "Pepsi Free." Plus, lots of folks today may not get just why a DeLorean as a time machine is funny.
  22. Okay, so sometime soon we can do a tournament of ninja characters, but for now, just the games folks (no, last topic wasn't the poll, despite what some people thought. ) Eh, give it a week on this one... At the same time, you can throw in nominations for a ninja video game character tournament. You can nominate as many as you want, but only up to five per game per poster. I'll be a bit liberal on the definition of "ninja." However, these should be primarily video game characters--I'll make an exception if they were a prominent character in a video game, though. However, just to clarify, I decide you goes and stays, basically. I'm not putting all 30 or so ninjas from MK, nor will I put a sorta-ninja who was hiding in a closet in some licensed game and did nothing else. What is the name of the ninja in I-Ninja, BTW?
  23. Some of us has entered the "acceptance" stage of coping with the Diva Search (like so many have with coping with Randy Orton). In my case, it's a case of who I think will win, and I haven't bashed it in a while since I haven't seen Raw in a couple weeks anyway. And like others, I want "anyone but Carmella" to win, since she seems like such a total bitch, she puts you to sleep when she's talking, and we all have seen her nude anyway. That makes her positively, absolutely useless in my eyes. At least Christy could be a Daffney-Lite, Joy has some basic understanding of how to work a crowd and...what's the big deal with Maria again?
  24. So maybe in the movie Ash has magic added to his arsenal?
  25. "VU Games has tapped the development power of Radical Games, who previously developed The Simpsons: Hit & Run and The Hulk for VU Games, to create this third person action game." Hit and Run was unimaginative and mediocre. Hulk sucked from what I played of it. Not promising, I don't think.
