  1. We've gotta have a ladder match! If we don't hurry up and have another one, the gimmick might actually mean something the next time a major event rolls around that has one! The last one (RVD vs. Christian on Raw I think) was kind of a pointless use of it, for instance.
  2. Exactly, it fails to even win that battle, so obviously THAT ^ is even more ridiculous. Popularity based on gameplay, as opposed to stirring the pot on a sensitive issue like censorship. The first MK, if it had to be judged on its own merits without the controversy or the fatalities, etc., wouldn't had the same influence, i.e. more flash than substance. Because I'd prefer to give credit and props to games that actually changed something for the positive. You said yourself there were other games behind the controversy, and if MK had just been eliminated from that lineup, it wouldn't have changed much. Hell, even Japan is getting their own ratings system now. SFII's influence was mainly for the game itself, and MK's influence had little to do with the actual game, just its violence content. That's the point. SFII brought exceptional gameplay quality in fighters to the forefront. That wasn't what the hubbub over MK was about. SFII's influence was positive. MK just happened to be hanging around when angry parents needed a scapegoat for their shitty parenting, and its influence led to a bunch of game companies thinking they could half-ass it on gameplay if they had violence. That's a negative influence, one that counts against a game as far as I'm concerned. Don't try to deny that plenty of games were cashing in on a trend and using violence as a crutch to prop them up because the game quality was poor. Now we have games that actually use violence other than a cheap gimmick because of the realism of the games, and to think they couldn't have done that if not for a lousy, old, clunky fighting game is what you're implying. I'll plead guilty to not wanting to give "credit" to games I believe are overrated pieces of crap, however. Especially when I don't think their influence is something to be thankful for. I'll try to correct that. For exampe, thank you so much for popularizing cinematic dreck posing as video games, Square. On a gameplay note, I have no idea if juggles were even in MK1. You would know...
  3. The idea of FFVII being the best RPG ever is so blatantly, obviously incorrect that I fail to see how anyone could hold that viewpoint. Block button in 2D fighter = bad Block button in 3D fighter = good Well, at least in my opinion, and in the opinion of many a game developer, because even a great deal of the MK clones avoided a block button, despite copying most of its other elements. ...that is relevant to me talking about MK being the most popular of the games that got the senators and parent groups in an uproar how, exactly? Oh, and those MK clones--a bunch of half-ass, mediocre fighters with lots of blood thrown in just scream quality, don't they? EC CD I suppose was good, and...um... "Retaliation heavy gameplay?" What the hell does that mean? You should have just said "it has juggles, too." Because without MK, it would have never have happened. Yup. There were console and PC games of the sort that were raising the questinn on content ratings already. MK was just the major console game that was a part of the equation. If it hadn't been MK, there would have been another game that would have played the same role and the result was an inevitability anyway.
  4. Did he quit or was he pushed out to make room for Stephanie? He quit because of the traveling schedule.
  5. Bradshaw's worse. I feel they at least tried to make Holly look worthy and legitimate. Bradshaw got a new character and...he's kinda tall, so apparently he gets a title shot just by sucking up to the GM. Yeah, he's a heel, but not main-event-calibur heel. If he was just at midcard level now, I'd have no problem, but this is asinine. Trivia247: when I first saw the thread, that's what I thought of immediately. Scary.
  6. They don't really need one. The wrestlers should stand up for themselves and not have a cripple do it for them Yeah besides I don't know about anyone else but, I dig Bish when he's allowed to cut lose and be a heel GM without some dumb co-GM. Besides we already had to Foley keeping the heel GM in place after SurSer and it was no different from when Austin was there. When Bisch was the sleazy asshole GM when he first started, he was a joy to watch and was far more likable than Steph--even getting pops over her on SD. When he became a lame-ass generic heel he wasn't as much fun to watch. Now he shows more personality, but isn't as delightfully asshole-ish as he was back then.
  7. Torrie =/= ratings
  8. Fuck Austin, I'm glad he's gone. Don't let the door hit ya in the ass on the way out. I won't miss the son of a bitch!! Na na na na...

  11. Source, please?
  12. You are so deluded it isn't even funny. This makes no sense. You said the only reason people keep buying Square games is because they're Square games. I brought up the remote possibility that maybe, just maybe, people buy Square games because they like playing Square games(a crazy theory, I know). Which only makes since if they never played anything else, because Square's pretty damn mediocre at about every genre they try. The use of a block button is mainly confined to 3D fighters because, you know, Virtua Fighter did it, and it was more sensible in a 3D environment rather than 2D? Juggles--I'll give you that. Almost all of the clones suck, and aside from the fatalities KI rips off Street Fighter far more than it does MK or at least just as much. Not that KI is actually a good game, either. As we established, it wasn't the only game like that, just the most popular. Even if it hadn't been around, things wouldn't have been much different, if at all.
  13. Silly Rudo, that term is incorrect when you only have two guys and one gal... ...not that I'd know of such things. They kinda blew their chance to really do that during the Draft Lottery show, with both locker rooms all out there. Sounds like Sean O'Haire v. 2.0 alright, which some one else already called. Also, how long until they dumb-down the spelling of the name? "MORDAKAI"
  14. Actually, I don't remember any RPG before Mario RPG utilizing a timing-based system for critical hits on combat, but I could be wrong. Is that what you're referring to, or are there other things that you have in mind? Care to elaborate on these? Because, outside of the premise of the game, I'm not really seeing Earthbound bringing anything spectacular to the genre. Tales of Phantasia allowed for multiple-hit attacks and combos, because it was a real-time style system although it still went to a separate sub-screen for battles. Not exactly the same, but accomplishes the same objective. Although more similar to what you mean can be found in Beyond the Beyond and FFVIII--games not viewed as particularly great. When something like that is a part of gameplay, do you make the game harder if it is easy to pull off, or make it with the regular hits in mind and cause anyone skilled with the criticals to breeze through the game? Mario RPG was already easy, so while it was a cool feature, it made the game even more of a breeze. Other than that, SMRPG pretty much a typical Square RPG, where you jump sometimes, and it's over really, really quickly. As for Earthbound and outside of the premise-- Enemies are on the screen and visible, and you can sneak up from behind and kill them without having to fight. It's tricky but possible. When you take a hit, your hit points tick down rather than all of the damage points registering immediately. So you can actually go into panic mode and finish a battle before you're dead, even though technically you may be out of points. There may then be a race against time to get to your next heal spell/item. You can order a pizza by phone, add condiments to food to boost the HP you'll recover, etc. When you need to accomplish a certain task, there's usually a logical (relatively, of course) solution to it because of the modern setting. Some of them also may have been done before, of course, so whether or not you think it is "spectacular" or not may vary. Because FFVII is outclassed in all counts by tons of other RPGs, and that's just games within the genre. So that's a weak reason to vote it as "best game ever" when it can't stack up to the competition in its own genre in regards to quality. Popular does not automatically = "good." Please avoid making this fallacy in the future. It's the same one the contest makers made. Plus, most of their devotees seem to have no idea there are so many better games out there that put Square's to shame. MK's influence on game ratings is pretty well known. However, its influence within the game community on other games and its genre--you know, the point that matters--was what I was referring to.
  15. Stupid kayfabe fluff piece. Oh, please... HAHAHAHAHA!!! Bah, the website people just made this up. Torrie can't express sarcasm. The rest of it is also too hilarious to buy.
  16. *Close up of Kurt Angle lying there, Torrie screams* Kurt: It's okay, it's okay. I'm just doing my yoga.
  17. I'd say higher, especially since Foley landed on the table instead on the ground.
  18. Eh, Torrie's a succubus. As long as she gets her regular screw, she's immortal.
  19. Well, after the copyright notice, the world of WWE usually comes to a halt. Oh well.
  20. So, if a Kurt Angle falls off a platform and nobody is watching SD, it doesn't make a sound.
  21. *Torrie's acting* So, why the hell didn't the foley guy dub in a "thud" or "splat" or something?!
  22. So, they just have this platform here without a railing. It needs a railing! And a railing with a railing around it.
  23. Sometimes great minds think alike. ...though now it has me thinking...when The Rock returns...will he be acting like Mitchell? Baby oil sex scene with Sable? Nah...Nidia's more likely since he's been coming to Raw all the time. AAAAAAAAGGGGHHHHHHH!!!
  24. Sometimes great minds think alike. ...though now it has me thinking...when The Rock returns...will he be acting like Mitchell? Baby oil sex scene with Sable?
  25. Naw, production values are too high. Although they can switch to a camera that doesn't record sound, have some one with ADD film it, and have Mordecai debut next week with a bulbous-kneed Zach Gowen made to look like the Unabomber and walk with a staff. Then Torrie and Sable roll around in sand in nightgowns and they can finally hint at pedophilia. Dub it all with about two people, and voila. Smackdown: The Hands of Fate Most horrifying of all, when Gowen walks--Stacy's song off WWE Originals plays.
